The article says that the DfT have sent the campaign group for BML2 (Brian Hart) a letter saying that there's a 'conceivable case' for it... but no business case has been produced and funding would have to be found.
I've seen nothing to suggest that BML2 is being actively worked on by the DfT or anyone else, and with Network Rail pouring cold water on it quite recently that's unlikely to change - IMO its always been something of a solution looking for a problem, trying to justify reopening Uckfield-Lewes.

As great as the whole Channel Tunnel influence sounds, i've read enough now to realise that if anything influenced the GCR's relatively large loading gauge it was the GWR's.

The spectator article should be viewed in the context of inter-party politics. Its not the first time that those with an agenda wish to spread rumours of HS2's demise, and it wont be the last...

There is the APT up at York which I believe is still sitting outside, when it should be under cover. I believe the NRM's gas turbine ATP is undercover at Shildon, the other is Crewe Heritage Centre's and is kept outside. Regarding the preservation and operation of units, dont forget that the Cravens group have several trains on LU property including one undercover at Northfields, so it can be done. Indeed, next year should see quite a few privately owned preserved loco's and carriages out and about. Chris

The LO platforms at Queens Park are outside of the Bakerloo platforms. The HS2 connection might be more of an issue for such a service. Perhaps some LM services could be diverted onto the DC lines south of QP instead if OHLE could be installed?

Given that both the Class 378 & S Stock a Bombardier products this hopefully will mean that there is similarity in electrical systems which could help with the resolution of this issue. XF Im not sure if thats reassuring to be honest! I wasnt really thinking about the 378's, more the various classes of Chiltern DMU and anything else that might need to operate over the Met/NR lines north of Harrow, including those that could be used for a future Watford-Aylesbury(?) service, that currently have to be fitted with tripcocks. Im hoping the solution found for the 'mainline' will be applied to the Watford branch. Chris

Can anyone confirm if Sarah Siddons will be getting her vacuum brakes back? Correct me if im wrong, but with the steam loco's and vintage carriages to be used only vacuum fitted there isnt much alternative.

Now here's a question i've yet to see asked, let alone answered - presumably the Met post-SSR resignalling will still have all the signalling and equipment required for National Rail services to operate alongside LU north of (presumably) Harrow - will this include the Watford and Watford Junction lines to allow mainline services to operate over them in future?

They were put up for sale recently, its hard to see them being preserved though - more likely to end up broken for spares.

That seems rather unfair, lack of space and asbestos are pretty fundamental issues. While they may not interest everyone at the IWSR, i remember seeing a few years back that they'd like to have a '38 cab in their new rolling stock shed when its built which presumably remains the case.

Bruce has mentioned this on his blog "The appearance of two old standard stock tube cars for dismantling is a bit sad. These two cars are in NSE livery, having been brought back to the mainland from the Isle of Wight some 20 years ago. These ancient vehicles were converted from standard LuL cars at Eastleigh Works in the 1960s so they have a connection with the Works that goes back a long way. Parts from these two cars will be used to create a working train of standard stock for London Underground so its not all bad news." Good to see that a working train is still actively on the agenda.
