Interestingly, how many stations could have had disabled access, if lifts hadn't been taken out? Escalators can move far greater numbers of people and in the event of a failure do not usually leave people trapped.

The New York museum is in a sub surface station just below street level and making it accessible and safe was relatively easy, Aldwych is a deep level tube station with all the safety and access difficulties that implies.

According to Google Maps and various videos the level crossing there is still used by people on foot and authorised vehicles. Do you mean the one at Rainham? I can assure you that it has been removed completely and fenced off. HS1 has now been built alongside the C2C line there so there is absolutely no way that the crossing would be retained.

They were on the unrefurbished compartment stock. After refurbishment the stock was no longer compartment stock (IIRC class 303/305).

49 stock is the remaining part of the 38 stock order that was delayed due to the war, virtually identical to the 38 stock and referred to as such.

They also had them on the Liverpool Street trains as well. There were still a few as late as the early 80's as I saw them on the Southminster branch. (I lived in Burnham-on-Crouch 1983-1989).

Women only compartments were a common feature of the old slam door compartment stock but the provision of open stock precluded the continuation of the practice and it would be impossible on the 'S' stock for example. The idea was originally so that women could have some privacy for things such as breast feeding. Whereas when it was introduced the vast majority of commuters were male there was no difficulty in reserving a small number of compartments for females today the numbers of female commuters is equal or possibly greater than males.

Seeing as there is now some sort of tie-up between Bachmann and EFE a powered EFE tube train is a possibility.

Seeing as 3 is blanked out I assume it says something other than 'bus stop'. Tram stop perhaps? IIRC there is one such stop at the Carlton Colville transport museum.

Another thing is check to see that there are no line or station closures, there shouldn't be being a weekday but you can never be sure. I'm quite sure that there are people here on DD that can keep you up to date.

I just thought... What is the height of D Stock compared to standard platform height on NR - would there have to be modification work carried out to the stations along the route? They share platforms with mainline stock (Kew Gardens for example) so it should not be a problem.
