Is there any engineering work going on over the weekend? District and Piccadilly in particular?

mikebuzz: I can't fix the Google Maps alignments, but we can fix the alignments on OpenStreetMap, given sufficiently accurate textual descriptions of corrections, or legally-useable (freely-licenced) source material as references. phillw48: I'm sure between the lot of us, we can collectively arrange to get a camera and the plans in the same place at once. For large-format stuff, it makes sense to photograph it, rather than scanning anyway. I hope to be at the Acton Town open day next month.

The NY subway car at Quainton has near identical controls to 'Q' stock. Someone once told me that 'Q' stock trucks would fit it as well.

It should fit comfortably, as the New York subway system can take wider stock than the London sub surface stock. As we know the 1938 stock can be adapted to the third rail system and if necessary the shoebeams could easily be replaced. The only thing that could cause difficulties would be the line voltage. The train would probably use the 'Express' lines anyway so clearance should not be a problem.

I don't have a scanner so I cannot scan the map unfortunately. It was produced by the City of London planning department as one of a series of maps.

Is there going to be a 'London Transport in Miniature' this year? I've not seen any publicity and it doesn't seem to be on the LTM site.

All I know is that when I used to travel on the District in the mid 60's there would sometimes be a van standing inside the gates, if it was there in the morning it was invariably there in the evening but gone by the following morning. This suggests that they were moved overnight, possibly outside of the Districts running hours.

Talking of saving trains, does anyone know what happened to the T-stock cars that were for sale. I hope there's some way that they can be restored, and maybe the guys planning on renovating the D stock could figure out a way of installing a Ford transit engine and generator under one of the T cars. They both have a guards/luggage compartment one of which has been converted to a disabled space so there's plenty of space for a generator. The problem is that they no longer have their motors having been converted to hauled stock.

I have a map produced in 1944 showing all tunnels and subways beneath the City of London including the Post Office Railway. This is one of a series of maps produced by the City planners for post war development most of which was never carried out. Fortunately in the case of a proposed dual carriageway ring road around the City.

There are several on the LT&S out of Fenchurch Street, around Leigh-on-Sea in particular. There used to be a few around Barking/Dagenham Dock but many have now closed.

The first map takes me to my local area not part of London and there is no means of moving the map around. This has happened quite often just recently so perhaps Google have changed something?

Would be interesting to see which companies operated those routes. From what I know of some routes Stagecoach seem to have very few buses running.

Some bus companies pay different rates to drivers on the same route (though not in London AFAIK). We had a member of this forum who is sadly no longer with us who worked as a bus driver in Lincolnshire where the same company had two garages sharing a route. One of those garages was in an area of high unemployment and the drivers were paid less than the drivers at the other garage.

They would have had to add a diesel engine/generator as well but as the branch was electrified it would not have been necessary. Some 'double ended' cars were converted for running shuttle services such as the Acton shuttle. Were they not just electric? Yes, that is what I meant. The diesel railcar never got beyond the drawing board but was based on the side engined AEC railcars as used by the GWR but with an entirely new body similar too the O, and P stock.

Sorry yes. Going to NYC in a few weeks and looking for new things to do. Well if your going to New York City and you are willing to spend $7 for the entrance go for it. Thats less than £5 I don't know of any similar thing over here for that price.
