It wouldn't be the first time a TOC has decided to stop serving stations also served by London Overground. Bar one early and two late services, Southern no longer serve Penge West and Anerley leaving it to LO.

On the news, it was Prince Edward who got to bash on a 345 today to TCR and back.

If I recall, HM has bashed the 365 up to Sandringham from Kings Cross?

The new Bank Platform is now open to passenger service Trains are now in Passenger service from Morden to Moorgate Via Bank That's northbound. Is the new (southbound) platform also in service yet? The Bank branch partially reopened this afternoon by extending the Stockwell to Morden shuttles to Moorgate. It fully reopens tomorrow.

Would it be possible to extend the Rayners Lane Piccadilly terminators to Uxbridge to give 10tph to the majority of stations on the Uxbridge branch?

Only just seen this post. Always liked reading Snoggle's comments, even if I disagreed with him on many occasions. Hope he's enjoying being in the big bus garage in the sky.

What folk need to understand is that the DfT deliberate exclude Christmas Day and Boxing Day from the franchise obligations and THAT is why you don’t get National Rail services operating on those two days. If you look at those TOCs who operate something on Boxing Day, such as Southern who normally operate some form of a skeleton service on one or two of the Metro lines until around 6pm, is that for commercial reasons or funding from TfL?

Nice surprise that the ELL is running all the way down to West Croydon. I thought they might have trialied it between New Cross Gate and H&I, but clearly NR have given them the go ahead to go on NR metals.

I wonder if it'd be viable to add track just before NXG Platform 5 to the up slow, so that LO trains can use the Up Fast?

Just out of curiosity did the services run on the Main or Local lines? The 'fasts' run on the slow between Norwood Junction and New Cross Gate. It's becoming all too common to see 378's go past on the slow. When Southern skip stations on the same section of line, they run on the fast lines.

Since the May timetable where some services have only a two minute changeover at West Croydon, the amount of missed stops has increased, where as before it rarely happened.
I've been on services where the inbound has run fast from Sydenham to West Croydon and today, a H&I service was sent fast from Norwood Junction to Surrey Quays!

I finally got on a refurb 378 this morning up to Canada Water. The moquette looks a lot better in person and finally the seats don't feel as hard as rock!
The exterior looks horrible though.

Noticed some oddities with the LO TVM's at Forest Hill. The smaller TVM's that also have the travel info on them have no issue accepting low denomination Oyster PAYG top-ups using credit/debit cards, while the larger ones which for some reason have a portrait touch screen with a landscape image are the same as LU with only top up's of £5 or over unless paying with cash.

I was going to say it was to save time on checking the unit when passengers leave, but the same LO staff will have to check the Southern terminators. Not sure about the current situation but from what I remember there are a lot less Southern terminators. As far as I know, it's normally only the 4tph LO terminators that use Platform 4, with all Southerns on Platform 1. This will change to 2tph Southern terminators on Platform 4, so a reduction of 2tph.

I was going to say it was to save time on checking the unit when passengers leave, but the same LO staff will have to check the Southern terminators.
One big disadvantage will be that disabled passengers using LO will no longer have step-free access from Platform 4 and it'll be a longer walk to interchange between LO and Tramlink.
Presumably LO will get priority to leave the station on Platform 1 as there have been instances of LO services being delayed behind a Southern to Victoria when leaving the turnback.

From May 20th, LO services won't be using the turnback at West Croydon on Mon-Sat. Those services will cross over to Platform 1 as Southern will be using the turnback for their Victoria to West Croydon services via Crystal Palace.
ELL services will continue to use the turnback and Platform 3 and 4 on Sundays

The only time I've been on a semi fast train between Stratford and Romford on GA, I wasn't checked. However when I went on the return journey on what is now the TfL Rail service back, I was checked by a GA RPI.

I don't know if it happens, but there should be announcements for passengers to make the very short walk to New Cross. I've done it in around 7 mins at normal walking pace.

My concern is that London Freedom Pass holders are used to unlimited travel on TfL operated rail and bus services outside London. Branded as the Elizabeth line will further give the impression that it's a LU service, rather than a TfL/NR service.
How many pensioners will be clued up on getting a Boundary Zone ticket to Reading travelling on a Elizabeth line service and will LU stations that serve Crossrail sell them? Ideally the likes of TCR, Farringdon etc will have NR TVM's in addition to the POM's to sell NR tickets.

During engineering works or disruption, they'll scrap either the timetabled West Croydon or Crystal Palace services and operate 4tph from NXG on Platform 1.

As the strike has started, the station is only open for northbound services only. I take it they need a member of staff per platform?

Yup, and there is zero chance of the Treasury agreeing with his call to freeze National Rail fares. I presume that since the Overground routes (with the exception of the ELL core) are still technically an integral part of the national rail network (its just that the act of 'franchising' has been devolved with the proviso that TfL cannot take it back in house - i.e. nationalise Overground services) and thus the requirements of said national network with regards ticketing and through fares etc. are in force then the Mayor has no power the freeze their fares (other than possibly the ELL core). We'll probably still have standard TfL fares on the whole of the ELL, NLL, GOBLIN and WLL (the old Silverlink Metro franchise) which are on NR metals. If other franchises become part of the Overground, I'd expect the West Anglia TfL pricing model will be used which allows for cross-transfer between NR/TfL without the premium charge from London Terminals, but zonal pricing outside Zone 1.

. The December timetable is going to see a massive overhaul of the service and the order of trains. West Croydon and Crystal Palace trains will terminate at Highbury, New Cross and Clapham Junction trains will terminate at Dalston Junction. Supposedly this is going to help ease congestion a bit and with Southern and Thameslink's new timetable too, all the services should hopefully run smoother together. A quick look at Real Train Times at Forest Hill for example for mid-December shows a 7 min gap northbound with the West Croydon's first rather than the Palace services.

TfL are proposing to add an extra 2tph to Crystal Palace and Clapham Junction from 2018, in time for Crossrail's launch to relieve capacity issues on those two southern branches of the ELL. This would bring 10tph between New Cross Gate and Sydenham, 6tph serving Crystal Palace and Clapham Junction which would start from Dalston Junction. However these are slots which are currently filled by New Cross services, which are lightly used designed to maintain capacity in the core section. www.southlondonpress.co.uk/article.cfm?id=4010&headline=More%20trains%20planned%20for%20London%20Overground

There is a new system being rolled out on London OverGround Stations - You may now use National Rail Delay Repay Vouchers to top up ones Oyster Card at OverGround Ticket Windows - I used GBP 7.10. worth of vouchers today to top up my Oyster Card at Kilburn High Road OverGround Station directly! Nothing new, this has been a facility for years. Until the recent LUL ticket office closure programme started, you could also redeem there there too.
