Don't forget aswell the Londoners style of life: if the 92TS comes in and the doors don't open, you'd need to overcome embarrassment of looking like a tourist who thinks the buttons do need to be pressed if you try to press them!

From memory (so roughly!) 11 tube stations and 9 surface stations have at least one speed restricted approach on the Pic, so pretty equal there. Anybody know for other lines? And the trains look closer then they actually are in the tunnels from platforms furthering the impression of harder braking?

The privacy, sound of the compressors (some I think, A60s I think). The fact they are the widest and do feel it...

Not that many speed restrictions coming into stations in tunnels compared to the surface. Sudbury hill is at the bottom of a trough and is approached on downhill gradients in both directions so necessitates earlier braking. It all depends on the drivers style but remember that you can nearly always be sure of rail adhesion in the tunnels but not in open sections! I agree the the noise and restrictive size of the tunnels make it look faster than it actually is.

The logistics to four track it would be huge, as it is it's tight between the bus stops and a Magnet & offices to the other side, the W/B as it is overhangs the latter. It's a pity if they lose the W/B road, other then the slow speed restriction, I liked going over what looked like a wooden bridge! I used to know someone who used to get off at Parsons Green or Fulham Bdy and continue south of the river by bus because Putney Bridge station scared them going West!

Very true, at least they've noticed the starters red on a positive note (but don't forget some Autos can be held at danger such as on the Uxbridge branch, I had a situation once at Hillingdon W/B where the Semis in the distance were green and the Auto starter was red... Regulating you due to the platform work at Uxbridge driver, said the Controller. But u won't really get platform staff at Hillingdon now... Come to think of it they might be X signals...)

Another case of somebody having what they think is a very good idea about something they in fact have no experience with. Examples include the 30s rule, cycle lanes at junctions (or with a lamppost in the middle). And the other obligatory PA, crew changeover! Must be made before DVA after doors have opened by driver getting off... On a side note it's funny how nearly the whole of London now knows the meaning of "regulating".

Thanks, suppose having more compressors helps with air leaks and bursts! But can't help wonder why they would put two on the D78 unless there were plans to run 3-car trains... Keeping the options open I suppose...

Just a quick question, do the D78 double enders have two compressors on the trailer car like the 73s. Come to think about it, what about other stock double enders? Thanks in advance for any info...

Or get a lovely letter placed in the drivers file, guilty before proven! And if letters pile up... So another reason for getting loads of PAs between stations due to the 30s rule. And sod's law states the signal will go green as soon as the driver just finishes the PA!

The platform height at Hounslow Central isn't that bad when compared to North Ealing! Especially the E/B
