Afternoon all,
Quick one that occurred to me the other day: Now that FCC have taken over the cross-London franchise from Thameslink, will City / Kings Cross / West Hampstead Thameslink stations be renamed? Or shall the legacy that was Thameslink live on forever?!
Toodle pip!
Jim.

At last! You've been all the way round it, but you finally got there. This is Willesden Junction, specifically the eastern end of path from DC Lines/Bakerloo ticket hall to the NLL station. Finally, I get one right! With only the slightest of help from other guesses, honest... ;D

Stratford indeed. I was staring at that pic earlier for ages. You wouldn't think that I was stood pretty much in that exact same place at half seven this morning!

Well, if it's not Bank, then it must be Cutty Sark! My gut feeling led me to think that it was plat 10 at Bank though, heading towards the head shunt. That said, my track record's pretty poor on this quiz

Ermm.........isn't the Point Pleasant link at East Putney? The two spurs in this image lead to the down fast & slow main lines ;D ;D I concur. It's Wimbledon, a wee tad further down the line from Point Pleasant Jcn!

+2 for Edgware. The doors in the ticket hall are a dead giveaway. +3. I used to do a hellish commute to Borehamwood from central London many moons ago. Hop off the northern at Edgware and get the 1-0-never to Borehamwood, that was life for a while! Definitely Edgware.

It would be good - apart form every other post being a sponsored advert!! All the bizopps guys are raving about the moneymaking opportunities of blogs supporting an affiliate website. If this is an example it could well kill blogging altogether. I must say, having looked at the first pic I clicked away from the site as soon as I saw the sponsor link: ads down the side are fair game but this guy needs to distinguish business from pleasure. Fair cop, Phil. I can't admit to being any great expert on blogs. In fact, I'm a novice. I think it was Annie that originally linked to this chap's URL, before he started to do all the sponsored links. Still, we've had some fun and banter at work over it. Apols if this thread was inappropriate.

Afternoon all - don't know if any of you have stumbled upon this chap's blog before, but there's a few of us in the office that have been playing along for a few months now. We're a bit stuck, but I'm sure someone on here will be able to suss it out pretty quickly! By the way, this isn't a flagrant plug for some random bloke's blog, just an office of people in Canary Wharf getting mildly frustrated because we can't guess it! Toodle pip!

It's not unusual for there to be a 10 minute headway on services from Tower Gateway, even at that time in the morning. Granted, there was clearly a delay on the inbound service, but as previously mentioned in this thread, diverting a train from Bank wouldn't be a viable option. The only time Tower Gateway is ever stretched for capacity is when there are problems at Bank. Plus, it would involve a mass exodus of people heading into the city changing at Shadwell, potentially causing overcrowding issues on the island platform there when the train would be diverted to Tower Gateway.
A huge gap in service, granted. But far better than the alternatives, IMO. The priority in the peak has to be the Bank - Lewisham route.

I concur. The lack of one train at Bank at that time in the morning leaves a six minute headway on plat 9. It only takes a slight delay to balls up the queueing system at Bank in the peak (particularly because of the escalator works) -- a small gathering of disgruntled folk at Tower Gateway is nothing compared to the blockage that can rapidly build up at Bank. IMO it's bad enough when a King George V train pulls up and takes a handful of people off a heaving platform, without exacerbating the situation by trying to placate the problems at Tower Gateway.
Off topic - does anyone know when Tower Gateway closes for redevelopment?

This can be seen on approach to all terminus stations Correction to my previous post: When approaching terminus stations where trains don't physically go out of service but merely reverse out of the platform (Lewisham, Beckton etc.) the external displays update to their next destination (approaching Lewisham = Bank / Stratford, approaching Beckton = Tower Gateway etc.)

Ever since they upgraded the train software to include the audible announcements, the display software was also upgraded to reflect the former (ie. rather than just displaying "Lewisham" they now scroll: "Bank, train is for Lewisham" while sat at plat 9 at Bank).
One of the quirks of this upgrade is that once the train has pulled out of the penultimate station, it prematurely updates the external displays. For example, once a train has left Shadwell westbound and the tannoy announces "The next stop in Bank, where this train terminates. Please remember to take all your belongings with you", the external displays change to the aforementioned "Not in Service". As per the case of the original post.
This can be seen on approach to all terminus stations, but also if you happen to be walking along Marsh Wall on the south side of the CW estate, ex. Stratford trains that reverse at Crossharbour also do this. The displays change as the train is passing over the road, shortly after departing South Quay.

As an addendum to this thread -- given the fact that this work is going to last for at least a year (according the the TfL leaflet), will they amend the DVA on the district and circle lines, so they don't announce the interchange options whilst the work is ongoing? Similarly with the ones on the Central and Northern lines?
Thankfully, Miss Soulless on the DLR simply states: "Change for London Underground services", therefore no need to change that one on the basis of a technicality ;D

Ah, marvellous. All my questions answered in one post! Thanks undergroundgal! I've not seen any of those leaflets being dished out, or on display in the complex, or on routes leading to the affected area. I wonder how many unsuspecting members of the public (aka cattle) will find themselves in an odd predicament on Monday morning?!

Evening all,
It started to appear on the info boards on the DLR this past week, that the Bank / Monument complex will be split from this Monday 31st March. I was just wondering if anyone had any more info on exactly what work is being undertaken? They've finished the four escalators leading between the central line and the DLR, so I'm assuming they're cracking on with the two banks that link the northern line / DLR end of Bank station to the District platforms at Monument?
Also, is there any reason why they're completely removing the interchange options, rather than doing what they've done previously by having the functioning escalator going up and making people heading down use the static stairs in between the escalators? This (stopping folk moving between the two staitons) may not be the case (correct me if I'm wrong!) but the info screens were advertising the fact that this would be the case...
Best,
Jim.

It was a nightmare a while back when the down escalator to DLR platforms was out. Luckly I was going up. Unfortunately, I go in the opposite direction! Fortunately it's much better now it's the up escalator that's out of service. The bottleneck that used to build up at the end of plat 10 was not a pleasant place to be at 8:30am. And when the Jubby went down one morning Canada Water to North Greenwich - carnage!
