Having passed through from the DLR platforms (Bank) to the Fish Street Hill exit (Monument) this evening, it's hard to miss the fact that this whole process is being taken a step further (if you'll pardon the pun), because of all the posters and announcements being made. With effect from tomorrow there will be absolutely no interchange between Bank and Monument, unless you do so at street level (King William Street). Until now, there was still the option to pass via the northern line platforms and into the Monument section of the complex.
Now, it's an interchange I do on a semi-regular basis; however I've not heard or seen anything advertising this until this evening. Was this change in access announced any sooner than this week? I've found a couple of press releases off the TfL website that state that the interchange will be completely removed until the spring of 2009, but no firm dates attached to it, and it's not exactly been well publicised from what I can see.

Yep, also used when there's a defective train in P10 or the headshunt. Always good fun when it happens in the morning peak!

Is CC the one with the unfortunately placed column? Went to the claphams once with a friend for some photography. Yep, that's the one.

Correct you got it in one. It was driving in E/Shunt hence the flashing ambers Excellent, thanks, I thought so. One final question then: any specific reason for that to be occurring at that time, or just a mere coincidence?

Apologies for bumping an old thread, but it seems appropriate...
Last night about 2200, I was sat at the back of a Lewisham train at Limehouse station. Looking back towards Shadwell, the westbound train that passed us did so very slowly, and it had two flashing amber lights on the back, next to the usual red ones. My question is: Are these flashing amber lights used to show that the train is being driven in manual mode? This would tie in with the slow speed the train was proceeding at.
If anyone could confirm / deny for me, it'd be much appreciated!
Jim.

Talk about sweeping generalisations! Also, comments about people no longer having their jobs is a little on the harsh side. Watching grown men hugging and ladies crying, whilst carrying boxes containing the contents of their desks was not a pleasant thing to witness this week. Whilst I appreciate that office workers may fall under peoples' "inconsiderate passengers" umbrella, it's both a sweeping generalisation and a bit of an insult to those who act nothing like that at all.
Not wishing to come across as having a pop - I hope you understand that - but with thousands of peoples' careers in tatters as a result of this week's events, it's a bit strong to poke fun at their misfortunes, don't you think?

A: Westminster B: Cannon St C: Bank (DLR) D: Tower Hill I agree. That "next train" indicator" is definitely not Mansion House. I'm 99.9% sure that C is Cutty Sark - it's my local station! It's not Bank because there's no incline going into the headshunt, nor is there a bend as sharp as that, and the tunnels rise after leaving the station in the direction of Shadwell, unlike in the picture. I don't think it's Island Gardens either, as the tracks don't curve so much at that end of the bored tunnel section, this happens at Cutty Sark. If it was looking south from the northbound platform at Cutty Sark then you'd be able to see the RGI on the far wall; ergo, it must be the southbound platform, looking north.

C is Cutty Sark, on the southbound platform looking northbound.

Unfortunately not, I was heading in the opposite direction at the time. I'm back in my Marsh Wall office now, with the tracks and new station build behind me, so I'll keep an eye out for any further movements.

*Bump*
I've just seen two of the new units passing through Canary Wharf northbound, not in service. Keep your eyes peeled if you're in East London today, folks!

The reason why the location was chosen hasn't been worked out yet, nor the background. Anything to do with the return of through running on the DLR, after the single-line workings over the past two months?

Definitely a DLR station - you can tell by the mirrors towards the end of the platforms. Can't for the life of me figure out which one though!

Lord knows where I fit in to the statistics, but I've been here since July '05, and have been a daily visitor / sporadic contributor ever since! It truly is a great forum, and as previously stated, one that's never found itself in any strife, due to two factors: 1) The quality, knowledge and integrity of those posting, and 2) the expertise of the mods / admins who do a quite simply marvelous job by knowing when to get involved and when not to. A simple task on paper, maybe, but one that endless other forums miss by a country mile. Good work all round, I say!

Well, it's been an interesting few days since the changes took effect. I've been walking instead for the most part, so have therefore avoided most of the chaos. The Greenwich foot tunnel has been very well utilised in the absence of a normal DLR service! I have tales from colleagues about having to walk from the Wharf to Lewisham because of the severe congestion.
One thing that's always impressed me about the DLR though, is its flexibility in times of service disruption. Last night I was on the very busy northbound platform at South Quay about six-ish. There was an eight minute gap before the next Bank train was due in, and the platform was getting severely overcrowded, but there weren't any staff there to alleviate the situation. The solution to the problem? I was looking up as the next southbound train approached to see whether it was for Island Gdns or Crossharbour, when an empty unit came flying round the bend, ran bang-road into platform 2, picked everyone up in less than 30 seconds, and then proceeded back towards Heron Quays.
Also, I was wondering whether people still getting the DLR replacement enhancement bus service will be able to claim their fare back from the DLR for being delayed for more than 15 minutes, or does the nature of the work mean that this process is not applicable in this instance? I know on paper that it's not a delay of >15 minutes, but in reality it's taking most people at least an extra 20-30 minutes once all the queueing / bus journeys are taken into account.

I'm intrigued, is this something you know about / could possibly elaborate on, towerman (or anyone else, for that matter)? I was also wondering if this is the reason behind the current spate of engineering posessions at the weekends? Cheers, Jim.

Is it the dome at the entrance to Tower Gateway, which closed for refurb works today?

That's not West India Quay. That's the DLR tracks approaching Heron Quays (to the left), or approaching the sharp left hand bend before you reach South Quay station (to the right). Photo taken from the Britannia hotel on Marsh Wall, if I'm not mistaken?

The City Airport bus link was withdrawn when the DLR opened to City Airport, so it shouldn't be announcing it at Canning Town either! Canning town is: "The next station is Canning Town. Change for the DLR, including services to the ExCeL exhibition centre, and London City Airport."
