Remember when 62TS reigned on Central Line, powers that be decided to put rewinding motors out to contract rather than use the winding shop at Acton.Lo and behold within 3 months we had a lot of motor flashovers.

I thought the problem with the locos was too much unsprung weight causing bad vibration to surface buildings.

Before a proper fire alarm system was installed at Hainault Depot the alarm was the Depot Foreman walking round the depot with a football rattle.

Is there a â shed dayâ as part of 92TS maintenance regime? On older stocks this was done around every 36 weeks and included checking brushes on all rotating machines eg motors MAs and compressors.

Back in the day the last Picc stabled in the sdgs after 1:30am and the first train out was a Picc staff train just after 4am.Incidentally the last WB Picc was a South Harrow stabler.

Why was stabling of Piccadilly trains discontinued? It would give relief to stabling issues during the rebuilds of Northfields and Cockfosters.
Think back in the day six trains stabled overnight.

When I was a young boy I some times spent weekends at my cousins. They lived close to the Edmonton-Ponders End border, when my uncle picked me up he used to turn off the North Circular into Cuckoo Hall Lane(this was in the days before the flyover was built)about a couple of hundred yards up the road was a level crossing with a single line crossing the road. Was this a link line between the Enfield Town Line and the Lea Valley Line?

What was the difference between the 62 and 59 stock, they virtually looked the same. The 62's seemed knackered to me during the last years. They smelt, leaks all inside, dodgy windows, weird noises doors kept failing in service. I do miss them, lol 56/59TS had carbon contact voltage regulator,62TS had solid state regulator.56/59TS had hard wired door & brake valves,62TS had plug in valves. You mention door problems on 62TS,this affected 56/59/62TS especially in wet weather, rainwater would run down the glass in the door and seep into the door itself, the extra weight would cause the door to stick.Had to punch a hole in the bottom of the door to drain the water out. Also the bearing in the front track wheel of the door was prone to collapse causing the door to âbottomâ on the track.

Ofcourse hindsight is a great thing but I do really think with some structured planning and adequate funding, TFL really should have considered replacing the 72ts, the 73ts and the 92ts at the same time with one single order, benefiting from the "bulk" saving principle. I dont know how long previous central line fleets have lasted but I think (especially given todays intense service demands compared to yesteryear), that 30-35 years should be the expected lifespan of a central line fleet given how intensely worked any fleet would be on the line. Bare in mind that the 62ts before that (which did not need to meet as much of an intense service level), were replaced in after 33 years. I dont know what is to come but at some point both this fleet and the bakerloo will need to be replaced, and ultimately, kicking the can down the road will only result in more money having to be spent for both the short run and long run. Going back to the end of the last century, the PPP promise of low-risk line upgrades financed by the private sector was based on a 30-year life of modern trains and signalling, so that each line would be dealt with within the PPP contracts. Of course, plans don't always work out, and PPP collapsed within the first quarter, but this does suggest that stretching lives towards 50 years is not ideal. Speaking as one who maintained 62TS for 14 years, they were in pretty good nick and couldâve gone on for another 10 years,it was the 56/59TS that was knackered.

I thought it was Q38 motor cars converted to R38 motor cars, maybe as built Q38 car tail lights were single fused and they thought it wasnât worth changing it.

Maybe because a lot of R stock motor cars were originally Q stock cars.

Used to be an ex guard(medical)at Hainault whose job was filling and lighting oil lamps on stabled trains in the evening.Electric stabling lights were fitted to 62TS in late 60s early 70s.

Are the motors removed from the CLIP trains being used to keep the rest of the fleet going?
