I was almost caught in the Jubbly suspension yesterday, I got off the ELL at Canada Water (so much for all those announcements possible on a 378) and just as I reached the bottom of the escalated a station control room announcement was made saying the line was suspended between Green Park and Stratford - the people coming down the escalator behind me hadn't heard it and rushed for the trains. The westbound train then departed and the announcement was then made that there were no eastbound trains.
(Back on the ELL to Shadwell, help a confused Hammers fan find the DLR and DLR it down to Woolwich instead of North Greenwich).

<snip>Apparently the Bill was largely filmed on an industrial estate in Croydon, and they always did the driving round a particular roundabout that lead to nowhere... Trying to drag this back to the Northern line..... The set of The Bill was at Deer Park Road SW19 (almost handy for Colliers Wood / South Wimbledon). I went there one weekend to update the software on the scriptwriter's computers. Having entered a typical office style reception area it just 'flowed' into the set - suddenly I was walking down a corridor in St Hughs Hospital (??) and a sign that pointed to the IT Department on the hospital set led to the real life IT dept. (ok, IT office) for the complex. There were big A2(?) sized A-Z type maps on the walls showing the fictional geography of the program - IIRC the real-life Blackwall Tunnel crossing became a dual road bridge on the program's maps. They had a TfL bus stop and shelter in the complex's car park too.

Well this is it, manufacturers have very little reason to make their signalling products compatible with others, in fact theres far more reasons for them to keep it as propriatry as possible. The more generic something is, the greater the chance of the client getting future parts/services from someone else. If only LUL had kept their engineering division, they could have designed their own solution, and just asked others to make the necessary parts. Would the contract still have to be put out to tender throughout the EU though with other companies allowed to bid against LULs in house engineering division? I thought Boris' next manifesto pledge was to bring back tube trains with guards because they make the public feel safe....? Of course the guard will only be on the train for a limited number of hours when it's really busy - being OPO the rest of the time. TfL will hold a design competition and then retain the rights to whatever the competition over-ruling company designs and so it will be able to license it to other manufacturers too..... Well, it'll work for the BorisMaster won't it..... ;D ;D

Is New Cross Gate the only station to miss out "London Overground service to" in the PA announcements - we still get "The next at platform 5 is the 13:07....... Dalston Junction". After eight/nine months surely this could have been put right?
Also, proper PIS on platform 1/2, having used it yesterday, there was a 14:10 LO service due at Platform 1 to Crystal Palace and a 14:14 Southern service to Caterham and Tattenham corner. No PIS on P1 and the three line PIS on P2 was fully taken up with the splitting service, so no idea what was due afterwards.

What genius decided to place the new ELLE station name boards (Sydenham etc.) between the lamp posts so that they're not illuminated? Not very helpful if you're on a train with non-working PIS (e.g. Southern this evening) and you're wondering what station your at cos you've just woken up from a little doze....

If/When this goes ahead, how is it likely to be done? Would the Kennington loop be taken out of service for the extension to be grafted on whilst the rest of the line runs a 'normal'-ish service?

An odd question....
Where I work we have cupboards with sliding doors. Some of my colleagues have a habit of not putting things away properly which causes the doors to get stuck.
Is it possibly to get LU style 'Do not obstruct the doors' stickers anywhere?

I certainly wouldn't trust any speed reading my or any phone gave me. The Transmitters are far too small to maintain a reliable signal. <picky> Receiver surely? The transmitters are in geo-stationary orbit. </picky> I've used a long word with a hyphen, so I'm now prepared to be shot down in flames...... ;D Simon

The Railway Eye blog (16th Dec. 2010) says that c2c staff are still working on the assumption that the franchise ends in May 2011. On the subject of LO taking over services, I seem to recall that the Thameslink Wimbledon/Sutton services were proposed to be transferred to Southern as they wouldn't be going through the Thamelink 'core'. If this was transferred out of FCC, would LO be a suitable operator for them? Simon

CIS at London Bridge westbound @ 16:49 : 1 Wembley Park 5 mins 2 Wembley Park 10 mins 3 Stanmore 15 Mins <alternating with> Jubilee Line:No service between Finchley Road and Stanmore Train 3 was then changed to Waterloo and all three trains dropped back three minutes. Another message then popped up advising the next Stanmore train was due in 19 mins. Simon

When I reached New Cross Gate this morning the CIS displays were showing only a 2tph LO service to West Croydon and to Crystal Palace. The northbound LO service to Dalston Junction was shown as x15 minutes.
I checked the Live Service Status on the TfL website but it showed no problems and looking at it now shows the expected 4tph service each to West Croydon and Crystal Palace.
Does anyone know what was up?
TIA

I cant give any specific dates, but I can say the free app wont be getting maps, until we can put advertising in place. For now, the maps are intended for the premium version of the app. With the DLR routes done, I only have the last of the underground lines and the river left to do. So as a final image to post on here, this is the metropolitan line map! What will the 'premium' version of the app offer in addition to the maps? Will the maps show service disruptions like I suggested? To be honest I like the current version of the app but I can get service status from the TfL webpage and keep a downloaded copy of the tube map in Adobe, so what would I get for my £ (or preferebly p)? {Edit : OK, had a look at your website but the screenshots of 'London Travel Pro' don't give much away!} It may just be me being fussy, but I having the southern most station (Aldgate) at the top of the map seems wrong to me. The same can be said for the DLR map that has Lewisham branch to the right of the Woolwich branch (reply 38). Oh, and the Viccy map too. Simon

I just tried your app on my WP7. It works great, very smooth. It will be even better with maps, keep up the good work I've just downloaded and installed the app too, any idea when it will be updated to include the maps? Will the maps feature 'live' disruptions e.g. no service between X & Y? Simon

Locals have been up in arms about the parking issue for some years. There have been cases where people have had their driveways blocked off by people parking on the side roads. Its literally a mass scrum for space, worse from about 08.20 I'd say until well after 09.30. An extension to the car park has long been a plan to sort out the problem, however, residents don't want this. There was a similar case at one station on the NR Network, can't remember if it was on the ECML or up the Chiltern somewhere... So the residents are fed up with on street parking and don't want their local station car park extended? What do they expect people to do then, pack their cars in their brief cases?!! Maybe they'd like someone to provide a reliable and preferably cheap bus service that all those car drivers could use? Simon

www.tfl.gov.uk/corporate/media/newscentre/17547.aspx" Three-car trains increase capacity on DLR Stratford to Lewisham route30 November 2010Three-car trains have been launched on the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) from Stratford to Lewisham with the extra carriage increasing capacity by 50 per cent for each train during the morning peak. The roll-out comes as demand for DLR services continues to grow and the network gets ready for the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games and an expected 500,000 people per day. Improving journeysKulveer Ranger, the Mayor's transport adviser, said: 'Increasing capacity on the Docklands Light Railway is part of the Mayor's continued commitment to improve the journeys of those using public transport across the city. 'We are improving the service for all Londoners who use the DLR on a regular basis and with the forthcoming Games we are determined to make sure everyone, visitors and residents, are able to travel to events quickly and comfortably.' Director of the DLR, Jonathan Fox, said: 'We are continuing to deliver an increase in capacity across the network as promised and local residents and passengers are now seeing the benefits of this. 'The additional carriages will allow more than a thousand extra passengers to travel on this route every hour and mean less crowding at stations.' Investment in transportOlympic Delivery Authority (ODA) Director of Transport Hugh Sumner said: 'The introduction of three-car trains on the Stratford-Lewisham line will deliver additional capacity before, during and after the Games.' 'The ODA welcomes this upgrade as part of a £6.5 billion nationwide investment in transport associated with the Games, as the route will continue to be an important option for those with disabilities, people with luggage and parents with small children or pushchairs.' Three-car trains were introduced on the network's Bank to Lewisham route earlier this year. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Notes to editors - During the morning peak, every other train will run a three-car configuration while in the evening and off peaks, the longer trains will run according to demand
- Fifty-five new carriages have been added to the DLR fleet to enable three-car operation. They have been delivered over the last two years at a cost of £100m and were funded by TfL (£80m) and the ODA (£20m)
- The DLR currently carried almost 70 million people a year and has a reliability figure of 98.6 per cent
- An all time record for passenger number was set earlier this month on 10 November (during the World Travel Market at the ExCeL) when 303,000 journeys were made on the DLR network - up 11 per cent from the same day last year when approx. 273,000 journeys were made

I was surprised to see the Beckton services heading back east from P4 at Poplar.

I'm a shade busy a the mo - could a kind soul find and decode the DLR WTTs for me, please (or at least give me the .xml reference). I'd be everso grateful ;D The three xml files from data.london.gov.uk are : - output_txc_25DLRB.xml output_txc_25DLRL.xml output_txc_25DLRS.xml Your 'WTT' has thrown me as they are public timetables not WTTs. If you want PDFs produced from these three files, send me a PM with your email address and I'll send them back. Simon

Sort of... it covers the line from Aldgate to Amersham/Chesham, and only includes those services that run to/from them (as well as trains starting and finishing at Rickmansworth). Well..... Someone could always download the TfL Timetable dataset from data.london.gov.uk/datastore/package/tfl-timetable-listings (24MB zip, 1.15GB unzipped) and then download "Transxchange Publisher" from the DfT website, fiddle about with it all (read the comments on the 1st link for clues) and produce their own 'public' timetable. 833 page PDF for the District line anyone? ;-) Simon

Hello everyone I was at the 'Bush yesterday going to Westfield and back, when stood on the northbound platform I noticed the signal gantries at the south end of the station, and I was somewhat confused... <snip> What are the various signals for at the south end of both platforms? The southbound platform has what I would now know to term a station starter, but it has two junction indicators (feathers right?) which appear to show two diverging routes right. The northbound platform also has a signal at the south end, so I imagine this might be a wrong-road starter or something like that, also with a junction indicator right.... Plus, it struck me from where I was stood that the signal would be behind the south end cab of say a 4-car train (sadly my 3-car 378 didn't allow any verification of this). <snip> Thanks in advance I think there are different stop car markers for terminating trains at Shepherd's Bush - I think the show 3T or 4T with class 378 underneath...... ?
