The iron work around the roundel makes me think of Westminster chosen today because it was on this day that the District Railway commenced services between South Kensington and what was then Westminster Bridge? +1

Would the necessity of complying with the Rail Vehicle Accessibility Regulations have anything to do with the order for new trains?

I am disappointed to say that I will not be able to attend this year as I am starting a new job in the new year and am putting excursions south on hold until I am working again.

I was unsure where to put this and know that it may move, depending upon whether the mods/admins consider it has been opened in the wrong thread.
I was wondering whether the 1995 stock lends itself to 7 or 8 car operation and whether the Northern line platforms could accommodate 7 or 8 car 1995 stock trains as a way of increasing capacity on the NL in order to reduce overcrowding at the busiest periods of the day.
I am of course thinking of when the Jubilee line 1996 stock trains were lengthened to 7 cars and am wondering if something similar can be done for the Northern line. I am also aware that money (or the lack of) is the major constraint on what can be done.

I suppose the question is - where could they go? They are only compatible with one specific type of signalling, so a lot of modifications would be needed. I realise that the thought of more expensive modifications to enable compatibility with another signalling system would limit the chances of any other rail operators being willing to take on the cascaded fleet

I wasn't sure where to put this and didn't want to cause thread drift elsewhere.
Does anyone know whether there is any way these trains can be used anywhere else once they are withdrawn from the Central line (and the W&C), I am of course mindful of the fact that the fleet has been far from problem-free since their introduction to service and also that withdrawal is still someway in the future.
Or would they go straight for scrap?
I ask given how expensive the process of replacing rolling stock is and wonder if LU can somehow recoup all (or as much as possible) of the expense of keeping the 92ts in serviceable condition.

Having just returned from the Penderell's Oak (Wikimedia UK Christmas social), it was significantly less busy than it was yesterday. Anyone doing a reccie last Saturday to see what it was like yesterday would not have seen our sizeable group there for example, nor the French group that followed us (and rather rudely displaced us when they turned up the best part of an hour after the time they had apparently booked for and demanded the table we were using even though they didn't fill the other three or four adjacent empty ones), so would not have got an accurate picture. All of which opens up the question of how long the pub holds table bookings for, before re-opening the table(s) for general use?

Not at all. By North West do you mean Harrow (North West London), Manchester (North West England*), or Kyle of Lochalsh (North West UK)? *Other countries are available I am sorry for not being more specific, I will be travelling from Stockport, Greater Manchester to attend.

The film footage is/was a helpful reminder of what the 62ts could do in regard to transporting people along the Central line and also reminded me of what Liverpool Street and Bank stations were like before London Underground got round to modernising two of the busiest stations on the network. I had quite forgotten how grim (dilapidated) these two major stations were pre-refurbishment.
Apologies if the reference to Liverpool Street and Bank stations pre-refurbishment has taken this thread OT.

Having spent some time oop north recently, riding in various 80s bus conversions and throaty 150s, the sooner the better... I am in full agreement with that.

It was interesting to pass through TCR tonight on my way home from work, to see what had been done and what remained to be completed. I get the sense that it will look even better once all the remaining works are complete.

Earl's Court station and lines approaching are likely to be busy around midday as Chelsea v. Arsenal 1245 kickoff. I have a certain disliking for both teams, but will always choose Arsenal to lose I hope the result turns out to be an away win.
