An interesting mix of paint schemes on Metrailway's video too (I guess the 4 car unit with the blue doors was part of a trial design they used for the ELL).

The 'R' Stock story by Pier Connor is very good. Agreed--it was one of the first books i bought at Transport Diversions.

There was also a reduction of services on the tube lines, which threw up 1938 Stock for the Northern City in 1966. Wasn't that due also to the life expired Standards?

I'm still surprised the service was not included on the tube maps of that era, nor in the Underground Guides of that same era.

I downloaded this video and saved it to my flash drive this weekend. It is a nice journey down memory lane; but there is one question that I have: The train uses Platform 1 at Harrow on the Hill. In those days, wouldn't Platform 3 have been used at HOTH? I thought Platforms 1 and 2 would have been only used by peak hour services to Amersham/Chesham that run nonstop between Moor Park and Finchley Rd, as well as by Chilterns to/from Marylebone?

Seems like once they were fully introduced, my family and I didn't have to travel to KXSP like we used to. We were lucky to catch a thru train past Baker St, and once we picked up my "Nana" who came down alot from Grantham we'd take a bus to Baker St and then a Met back to Middlesex(the changes @ Baker St were too much for her). Despite only one trip on them, I always wondered where the Guard's doors were(as an adult I would discover that the guard would sit in the rear driver's cab).

2. S Stock. There is no reason to assume trains for the Edgware Road branch will originate from Wimbledon (or Olympia as some now do). Indeed, I suppose that's one of the advantages of a common stock set. You can send them anywhere if you really want to. For example, Wimbledon-Earls Court-Tower Hill-Moorgate-Baker St-Harrow on the Hill-Rickmansworth-Chesham?

It was not until the 1973-74 timeframe that I knew Ruislip Depot existed. When my family lived in Ruislip, we used the Met/Picc station of the same name or Ruislip Gardens to start our "adventures." In the autumn of '73 when we moved to Ickenham/North Hillingdon, Hillingdon was our closest Met/Picc station. Riding the rails back and forth to/from school in Ruislip Manor, I caught my first glimpse of the depot. The first time I used West Ruislip to begin a Central Line journey was November 1974(easily accessible M-F via bus 273 from Hillingdon); I got to see more of the depot on those trips. Not to drift too far off-topic, but when we moved to Ickenham my dad continued to start his daily commute to Marble Arch or Bond Street at Ruislip Gardens, even though West Ruislip was much closer(apparently, he had more room to park his "Yank Tank" @ RUG compared to WER).

Did that show the ELL because that type of stock was operated on it back in the day?

Oh, and just to show how times have changed, me and my mate made the journey by ourselves with no problems on a Saturday in 1974. We were 9 years old. Was that before or after the Piccadilly ceased running beyond Rayners Lane on Saturdays? One early memory of Ruislip depot that stands out to me was seeing COP and R stock there in the 1973-75 time frame, before the siding off the Met/Picc was electrified.
