Isn't the reason they have to make sure everyone gets off a train before it reverses that you can't have a train with passengers on go past shunt signals. If they resignalled reversing sidings without using shunt signals, couldn't they save time by just having the driver shout 'all change', and also have a driver get on the back cab? Then you could reverse trains quicker. The DLR's reversing sidings are all normally signalled, and the trains pretty in-escapable, yet they still aren't allowed to carry passengers into the sidings at Bank and Crossharbour. Crossrail has received permission to carry passengers into reversing sidings at Ladbroke Grove, although they will probably have the luxury of a nice platform to remove people who choose not to listen to announcements.

Anyone know what the new Picc line stock will look like, I can find nothing on Tubelines web site or on the TfL intranet.

I've read a Tubelines document on the intranet at work. All it says is that the new stock will be based on the 95 stock that runs on the Northern, although this could just mean the underneath bits as they will be using the same signalling system when updated.

I'd rather see an upgraded version of The 73, but I guess it isn't going to happen........ In fact, I'd rather see The 73's stay, but meh, who am I to say?

I'm always surprised to hear about the 73s being replaced - from my not too knowledgeable view, they seem fast, modern, do loads of miles and still seem well preserved after the refurb. I'd have thought it would have been worth getting rid of the 92s first. Maybe someone that knows more about it than I will tell me that I'm barking up the wrong tree though...

I'd agree. I think tube train design is starting to look a little regressive! It's a similar situation in which the C69 stock was conceived after the beauty of the COP/Q38/R stock!
