Tube doors are not lift doors. "Mind the doors!" They should not bow and scrape to thick punters. If an idiot sticks his hand into the door and it gets clamped, the station staff should get it unstuck and give him an earful. Totally agree - they will soon learn that way! I think someone did that on the Picc. He ended up on YouTube, he doesn't work for LU now.

Granted someone was killed on the Central; however, that highlights the importance of platform staff. They cannot give the driver the "right" if someone is clamped in the doors. In any case, there can be absolutely no excuse for blocking doors and pulling PEAs without reason. Sadly, it now appears to be corporate fashion to sack those who use discretion for the greater good.

I've yet to see an 09 have any door issues myself, and I've been on quite a few now. It's the sort of thing that platform staff are unlikely to see and could most certainly not be seen on the OPO monitors in-cab that caused that fatality.
I stand behind my reasoning and am in full support for the sensitive edges on 09s. You aren't supposed to lean on the doors or wedge 'em open.

Do we know if the units have actually been scrapped, or does the list simply signify "gone to Booth's"? Are they getting cut up promptly, or sitting around for a bit...?

The dates on the list show when the units have gone to Booths.

Could we please keep to the 67's going for scrap at Booth's in this thread. Sensitive edge activation belongs in a fresh thread, as the drift has gone that far. Thank-you. After a bit of forum magickery - the sensitive edge-related posts are now here.

21146, I've got a bad feeling the person you were refering to was the one who shouted and swore at a pensioner? Nothing wrong with a 'stern word' or several, but maybe given the circumstances that was a bit over the top of the guy?

That's if they are still keeping it - I hope they do, it's the only train in which a reigning monarch has been in the cab! Incidentally, does anyone know what 67 stock units are scheduled to remain to the bitter end?

I am sure that HM travelled in a 1973TS cab when she opened up the Heathrow extension.

She also travelled on a DLR train for the official opening of that system. I presume that unit is now in Essen?

I think you are - <blatant plug> angelislington has I think the Royal Train Notice for that particular event to sell on eBay shortly for the London Transport Museum - if not there is certainly a Royal Train Notice sculling around to be sold for the LTM </blatant plug>

I realise this is way off topic, but the royal DLR train, vehicle 11, is indeed in Essen. It was also the one which underwent trials in Debdale Park Manchester before being delivered to the DLR.

Were there any maintenance issues existing or developing with the 67TS? As far as I know the trains remain in good condition internally and externally. This suggests that perfectly good serviceable trains are being sent for scrapping, simply because their replacements have arrived and been made ready for service. Wouldn't these new trains themselves have a longer life if they were simply kept in reserve until needed, as opposed to bringing them into full service simply for the sake of it. Five years from now, hypothetically, the 67TS trains could still be running as efficiently as they have ever done, with any train temporarily "off the road" being replaced by a new train. I don't understand the obsession with replacing an entire fleet simply so LU can gloat over the fact that a particular line is running brand new stock.

It is done so the public can see that things are moving forward. New trains look good, and it shows that all the shut downs and money is being used wisely - or not! ;D

Actually, no. First, Standard stock was stored during the war, and had deteriorated by the time it came out to play post-war.
Second, it's not just new trains. It's new signalling too. 67TS isn't compatible with the new signalling.
Third, they are on the way to being clapped out, it's just not so apparent.
Fourth, I highly doubt there is depot space for two whole Victoria line fleets.
Fifth, it's not just about looking new; it's about actually modernising the Victoria line.

I can't find any fault with the current service. In many cases, as one train pulls out of a station, the one behind is already visible.

Well, good on the 60's engineers who created The Great Victoria Line. OTOH, please be aware that the 67TS are aging. I realise that they still look sharp. Yes, they are still looking good. However, they will have to be replaced anyway. Why not do it when there is money?

Now that there are 16 09ts does this mean that there are 28 67ts left? I was just wondering if when a new train arrives does a 67ts go?
