no wonder there was a shortage of ppe in hospitals if they were only wore for a couple of minutes at a time ... Although if it gets contaminated as you say as soon as you touch it as you say does it matter if you remove it and put it back on later as the new one is only go to get infected same as old one from your hands unless you sneeze in it that is We can also add to the above people removing (and therefore needing to replace) their mask for having a drink of water - which is of course something necessary during hot weather. Indeed normally the railway encourages people to carry and drink water with them at this time of year. Personally I like to be hydrated when travelling, so that’s going to increase my mask usage further. Meanwhile I hear there’s already been stuff on Twitter along the lines of “there’s someone in my carriage not wearing a mask”, and even “why is the train driver not wearing a mask?”. Couldn’t make it up. I will certainly be expecting a supply of about 15 to 20 masks per shift, and if they run out then unfortunately there will be certain things which I legally won’t be able to do. As the face masks are to be used as face coverings and not Personal Protective Equipment, there are no formal standards to follow. We anticipate each colleague will use between one to three face masks in a full shift. If a colleague is doing more exhaustive tasks they may use four. Face masks should be changed after breaks or when it becomes damp. Always wash your hands before putting the mask on and before and after taking it off, and don’t touch the mask once it’s in place. that's the company's view on how many masks per shift should be used although cant see how you can wash your hands in a cab

10 a shift so does that mean if you wear one when changing ends for 2 minutes you ha e to throw it away ? I would of thought you would use one for the first half and a fresh one for the 2nd half From what I understand (I’ll add the disclaimer that I’ve been on leave for these last couple of weeks so I’m only hearing this third hand) the answer is yes - the moment the mask is touched with hands it can potentially become contaminated. So for someone who wishes to wear it only when legally required, they will get through a lot of masks. Take a fictional but true-to-form morning Golders Green duty: Travel to work by train (1st mask) Off during the booking on process Walk to train via platform (2nd mask) Up to Edgware Change ends (3rd mask) Down to Morden Step back (4th mask) Up to High Barnet To canteen for meal relief via platform (5th mask) Meal relief To next train via platform (6th mask) Down to Morden Change ends (7th mask) Up to Edgware Change ends (8th mask) Down to Golders Green for finish Back to depot to deposit stuff in locker (9th mask) Locker room To platforms and train home (10th mask) Now perhaps this is extreme and some won’t take them off at every opportunity, but from what I’m hearing some will. I certainly would, especially when I feel it’s precisely pointless for example when changing ends at a terminus where people probably won’t be encountered. Not to mention that I hear Barnard Castle is a nice place to visit! ;-) Perhaps I’m just acting the rear-end because I’m displeased with the way this whole thing has been handled from start to finish, however if so it seems I’m not alone in feeling this way. no wonder there was a shortage of ppe in hospitals if they were only wore for a couple of minutes at a time ... Although if it gets contaminated as you say as soon as you touch it as you say does it matter if you remove it and put it back on later as the new one is only go to get infected same as old one from your hands unless you sneeze in it that is

General vibe in my neck of the woods is that staff are rather unhappy wearing them, with many finding it a distraction. With each mask only apparently being suitable for single-use, this means some people are using over ten per shift, in order to comply with the requirements whilst not wearing them whilst doing tasks like driving. At a depot with 90 duties per day, this means up to 900 or more masks, plus some for managers and the like. And of course if supplies run out then we’ll have situations like drivers not being legally able to reach their trains, responders unable to reach incidents, et cetera. How long will this nonsense last? From a personal perspective I’m highly uncomfortable with t the whole thing, especially as it largely appears to be a “be seen to do something” measure, another thing to add to the shambles that is our country’s response to this situation. 10 a shift so does that mean if you wear one when changing ends for 2 minutes you ha e to throw it away ? I would of thought you would use one for the first half and a fresh one for the 2nd half

All new schedules/timetables have been prepared and now available for the night tube lines. For some reason all night tube duties remain as scheduled on a Friday and Saturday. There is little else they can do as contracted to work between 8.30pm and 8.30am and you can't change that.also at Arnos grove there is 7 less night tube duties

Current May Underground News has story: Piccadilly Line train production is reported on target to start from August 2021, with the first new train into service from Autumn 2024, and all existing trains replaced by mid-2026. Surprisingly, an official visit to the ‘proposed’ Goole site on 10 March 2020 could only have a group photo before a ‘coming soon’ sign. UK production was part of the deal offered by Siemens to gain the contract for potentially 250 trains for four lines. The pre-production trains were always expected from Europe, with perhaps some early production trains. The Programmes and Investment Committee meeting on 5 March 2020 heard only 50% of the rolling stock would be built in Goole, so only around a year of production for the new factory. Funding for follow on orders for other lines currently looks unlikely! Only 94 Picc trains were ordered for 27tph under current signalling , but why not the extra 7 for 33tph and also 8 for eventual 36tph, as 95/96 stock were ordered to meet future signalled capacity. Maybe they could be encouraged by the Government to build Goole with another 40 trains for the Bakerloo and up to 10 estimated for the Waterloo & City. I can't see the Central line trains being ordered for a long while with the 1992TS improvement project about to get underway. This would increase the UK build to 100 trains, about the expected initial Picc order for which Goole was originally intended. As the picadilly has only 78 trains at peak now on current timetable and can only just cope with that many i assume the 94 trains are for 36tph

We've had a memo from "schedules" saying there is a plan that from Monday 6th July Night Tube lines Sunday service will start up at Monday - Friday times and that the Waterloo & City Line will resume Monday - Friday operation. Its all still in negotiation but interesting. Suppose it makes sense as night tube operators can't do a lot on Sunday morning and would get more trains in right position for normal drivers to take over . I know schedules are looking ant more productive work for night tube operators

With the return to working timetables, what is happening to the Picc T4 trains? We were told above that the shuttle service was officially working empty around the loop, but in practice was being diverted to T5 except if blocking back. With expected slow return to air travel, T4 closure could be a long-term thing I presume. All T4 trains are detraining at hatton cross now with help from station staff and taking stand time at T4 edit just seen another post written same time

Apparently the congestion charge is back from Monday, and being increased to £15 from June 22nd. And the advice was asking people to drive where possible and not use public transport. This is just a shambles. I don't recall anyone asking people to drive - and certainly not in the CC Zone (where would you park?) The only advice I've seen from TfL is asking us to walk and cycle where possible The prime minister said it in his speech on sunday if you can't work from home you can go back to work if it's safe to do so. Walk cycle use your own car and avoid public transport if you can

You’ve quoted parts of an internal email that was sent out a short while ago. As I’ve already said twice today and Dstock7080 has also posted, all lines are reverting to their normal working timetables from Monday. The 70% reference is probably a bit of bottom covering due to gaps in driver availability but I’m staying out of any such conversation on that front. i know you have previously said its normal timetable from monday and people might expect its going to be a full service although we all know that wont happen because of driver availability etc . the purpose of my post was it might only be a 10 percent increase to what we have now so will possibly mean there will still be a bit of overcrowding

Timetable Notices now issued (except Waterloo & City) for Lines to resume normal WTTs from Mon 18 May. Heathrow T4 station remains closed. Night Tube services remain suspended. On Bank Holiday Monday 25 May, Lines running will operate normal Monday service (Victoria Line closed) Starting on Monday 18 May 2020, our intention is to build up service levels and to start operating as much as possible of the pre-COVID-19 working timetables. We’ll no longer use the emergency timetables which have been in place since ‘lockdown’. I stress this is not aimed at encouraging more people to travel on our network. The message to customers is clear: they should avoid public transport where possible. However, we expect there to be an increase in demand resulting from the Government’s approach to lifting lockdown • We plan to increase Tube service capacity to at least 70 per cent to help maintain social distancing for our customers and for you. To meet the national requirement for social distancing we will only carry 13-15 per cent of our usual passenger numbers. We are currently operating around 60 per cent of the usual peak period service levels not sure how they going to do 70 percent of service with normal duties and not a emercency timetable but sure they would of worked it all out !!

Getting back on topic, we’ve officially been told the District line will be reverting to its normal working timetable from Monday. But only on weekdays - we’ll continue with our current arrangements at weekends. Whether or not we have the driver availability across the line to run it I don’t know; nor am I going to speculate on whether health & safety objections will poo poo it. I believe all other lines are planned to also revert to their full working timetables from Monday. I’m just stating what is planned by senior management and am not getting involved in the politics or whatever around the combine. That certainly applies to the Picc although I haven't heard about the weekend as yet. I've also heard that night tube drivers are being asked if they want to be seconded to full time so this could possibly be the end of night tube for the foreseeable. As Colin stated, this is the plan, it's a long time between now and Monday and any number of decisions can be taken and reversed in that time! Night tube drivers are on a 12 week secondment if they wish to and also have to do there normal night turns so be 2 night turns on friday and saturday a minimum of 30 hours rest and 3 normal turns totalling 36 hours in all weekend is pre convid-19 timetable duties and bank holiday is normal mon to friday duties

TTN 155/20 suggests that scheduled T4 loop trains should detrain at Hatton Cross and run empty around the loop. Can confirm that this is the case; it also retains PNB facilities at T4. its changed all t4 are now going to t5 with the exception of the first one which will detrain at hatton cross and go via t4 if t5 gets too congested some might be diverted down rayners branch

newer train managers would say approaching oakwood which would mean oakwood station They should then be ignored as that's PK2's ;-) and the not so new train managers saying train approaching cockfosters meaning cockfosters station .. sorry going off topic

I think I'm beginning to understand this now. When my Trains Manager tells me my train is at PM2's, what he means therefore is my train is at PM2's signal. That right? newer train managers would say approaching oakwood which would mean oakwood station

My post was based on a company wide email sent out by Nick Dent, Director of Line Operations, at approx 7.30pm last night. It’ll be in your company email inbox....... I’ve seen the bulletin and the FAQ that came with it (which seems more concerned with social distancing) but unless I’ve missed something it doesn’t state if the timetables now proposed are the same as those released last month. The conversations I heard suggested the timetables are, but I’ve seen nothing official one way or other. There’s no doubt that a proper timetable is the way to be going, just unfortunate they’ve thus far made such a mess of doing it... As an aside, I was wondering to myself which crew depots must be worst in terms of effort required to run the current special service. Golders Green and Wembley Park must be in with a shout simply on number of trains running and general awkwardness. At the other end of the extreme I’d imagine Rickmansworth is fairly straightforward. I’m not so much thinking in terms of work the crews do, but more in terms of effort required to implement, monitor, run and close it. It does say in email revised covid-19 timetables so there should be changes to what was released last month what these changes are we will have to wait and see

This is one of the notable changes that nobody can quite understand since the introduction of PICU - it is before my time on the Pic, but my understanding is that prior to PICU, PJ320 served to allow a train to berth into platform 4 as described, but with PJ31 route 1 clear. That's probably not such a bad thing as there were so many SPADs at PJ320. The main reason for the SPADs is that PJ320 is low down at track side on the left hand side. Despite bigger back plates to make the signal more visible, drivers kept hitting it. not as low anywore moved it higher a few years ago and now got a lit 10mph speed restriction at start of platform if it's showing red

T/Op's aren't exactly working normally. On our line at Cockfosters, we are just doing one trip to Heathrow and back. I'm booking on at 21:40 tomorrow for a 22:15 pickup. Not bad for some clearly - wouldn't mind a bit of that rather than being hammered with a standard 2 rounders every day at NFD. Clearly varying from depot to depot even on the same line... I thought each depot on picadilly line is running 8 trains in theory should all be doing same amount of work unless there is more t/ops off or the tms aren't working as good as cockfosters as all depots got about the same amount of t/ops if you don't include night tube

So it sounds like the 5% figure is the one that is unrealistic in the real world. Where does that figure come from? its different depending on the depot it was this but think there was another agreement made this year The current numbers were agreed as part of the 2009 Agreement. The formula used to determine which “Band” a depot fell in was based on various factors, including the number of duties at a depot, the position of the depot on the line, the frequency of trains, number of remote booking locations and the proximity of the train crew to a rolling stock depot. This formula determines whether a depot is given between 20% and 25% of rostered spare duties; it also determines the number of pool drivers.

Interestingly the windows on the concept art look small. This may be licence or structural requirements but the square nature remind me of the standard stock from the 1920s! Can two longer windows not replace the three shorter ones? This is a TfL design based on traditions, and with 1938 Tube Stock references, including car nos: 38000. We know little about the new trains. It was presumed that there was a single bogie beneath adjoining car ends, although at one time there was talk of each bogie being fully beneath a car end and supporting the adjoining car. I noticed on this picture full screen that the second car appears to have shorter body ends as if supported from bogies on the cars adjoining either side, as some tramcars! Presuming the doors are spread regularly down the train to even loadings at each, the car end bays have three windows or only one. This would suggest a Picc train of 9 cars, with normal cab cars, three normal two bogie cars spread down the train, and four short wheel-less cars hanging between each! Interesting. The train will be made up of nine cars, making it continuous train like the S Stock, the cars will be made up of 5 longer cars and 4 shorter cars. This will hopefully allow the train to move through the South Kensington bends quicker than we can now. Most of the train equipment will be on the shorter cars and the train will be fully air conditioned.

It’s a shame the Piccadilly cannot be reversed off the wrong road platform exclusively leaving the Met from the ‘usual’ platform via the siding. I guess a 15 mins frequency on the Met with every other train reversing at Harrow may have allowed the Piccadilly time to arrive and reverse once the Met had cleared the westbound platform? that's probably because the met line is reversing off the wrong road starter

I know about the "company information" page on aslef.org.uk, I just couldn't be bothered to read through it all on a Sunday morning... I'd not noticed they'd changed PTOA to TORA but then I still call CDP ATOR and I still call the manager on the desk a DMT even though they are now TMs which used to be DTSMs. You say tomato, I say tomato. As far as in aware the PTOA (Professionally Train Operators Agreement ) still stands the TORA (Train Operator Resourcing Agreement ) is more to do with things like staffing, opening new depots, transfers, and filling of rosters
