Ladies & Gents, As you can see, our planned refurbishment has now taken place. Please do read all the contents of this post as it details all the changes including the new website and how you can change the look of this forum. The background - why change?District Dave's original Trainweb website will forever be frozen in time in June 2005 after Dave's home PC suffered a terminal failure, taking the website files with it. After much persuasion and coercion by ChrisW, Dave finally relented in April 2010 and set ChrisW the challenge of creating a totally new website to replace the old Trainweb version. A new domain was obtained - www.districtdave.co.uk - and so the development work began. Dave felt that his website needed an update and gave Chris a free a reign over the design. As things developed, the remit included the forum as it was felt it too should maintain a link in terms of identity. It should be noted that Dave was very involved in every aspect of what we have arrived at - it is only because we have taken our time to ensure every single thing was covered and every opportunity to update exploited that Dave was unable to see it through to completion, sadly passing away in March this year. The forum staff would like to think of this update of both the main website and Forum as a celebration of the success Dave enjoyed in creating a whole community of friends with a common interest. With some amazing foresight, he brought LU staff and enthusiasts together - the very fact we are still going strong more than six years later, and have grown to a very real membership of over 800....well it has been our pleasure to assist Dave in ensuring his legacy doesn't go stale. He felt both places needed an update and we have now delivered. Highlights of what has changed on the forum:- New URL (address) for the forum: www.districtdavesforum.co.uk (see below for more info!)
- New logo at the top of all pages, matching that found on the new 'main website' (www.districtdave.co.uk)
- New logo at the bottom of all pages, again matching that found on the new 'main website'
- New buttons along the top of all pages (including a button that'll take you to the new main website), also as found on the 'main website' and thus completing the common look between the two entities
- All buttons removed from the bottom of all pages
- Choice of no less than 7 skins (see below for more info!)
- New shunt signal system to indicate new posts (see below for more info!)
- New archive of past threads - but only the very best & most useful
- Moderators attached to specific areas
- Forum staff names & groups now coloured
- New rule regarding serious incidents (rule 7.3)
- East London line board now a sub board within the Historical area
- Christmas archive sub board removed from Quiz area
- New tutorial to explain how to change skins (see below also)
- Avatar, signature and forum time tutorials updated to reflect changed look of buttons
- HTML coding at both the top & bottom of all pages reworked to prevent additional text causing page stretch or scroll problems across multiple browsers including mobile phones
Additional information regarding the new URLWe have a new address!! Please add www.districtdavesforum.co.uk to your bookmarks/favourites. The Proboards address will still work but we would like all members to use our new address as it will prevent you appearing to be logged out when following forum links. When you first log in using our new address, you'll get the usual "would you like your password saved" type message - this is because although you are visiting the same place, the two addresses are entirely separate. That's why you'll appear to be logged out if you follow the new links from the old address. It's fine if you don't understand - just use our new address only ( www.districtdavesforum.co.uk) and you will not experience any problems Additional information regarding the new skinsThe 7 skins (or forum colours if you don't know what we mean!) are.... - Original - only the top & bottom logo's and buttons are changed
- Original with LU shunts - as 'original' above, but with LU shunt signals to indicate new posts
- Original with LU shunts - as 'original' above, but with NR shunt signals to indicate new posts
- White edges with LU shunts - very similar to 'Original with LU shunts' above, but with White edges
- White edges with NR shunts - very similar to 'Original with NR shunts' above, but with White edges
- All White with LU shunts - all white "clean forum" with LU shunt signals to indicate new posts
- All White with NR shunts & multi link colours - all white "clean forum" with NR shunt signals to indicate new posts and differing colours for links depending on whether they've been visited
We have deliberately chosen to use 'LU' or 'NR' in the descriptions - 'LU' for London Underground and 'NR' for Network Rail - as we felt they were more easily recognised & associated with the signals used. The 'NR' ones are of course position light shunt signals and 'LU' uses them too, but not everybody knows that!! The all white version was going to be the only choice but we felt it was important to cater for those that would not wish to see much change, as well as those that may embrace a partial or full change. Afterall, LU looks after it's heritage and so should we!! The result is that we have arrived at a choice of 7 skins. The default skin for new accounts and those that are signed out or viewing as a guest is essentially one of the 'halfway house' versions. Once signed in, members may use which ever skin they wish. It should be noted that this choice will only be seen when signed in. To change your skin when signed in, we have created a tutorial ***INSERT LINK*** in our tutorial area. If you'd prefer a text step by step version: - Click on 'profile', 3rd button from right at the top of any page
- Then click on 'modify profile'
- Scroll down to 'Select Skin'
- The drop down list will show all the skins ranging from original to the two all-white ones (the one you are currently using will be at the top of the list)
- Once you have decided, select it by clicking on it, then
- Scroll down to "modify profile" (which you'll need to click on) and you're done
Can't see all the new features? If you are using a T fL computer, or other device where free image providers are blocked, it's highly likely that you will not be able to see all the new features. You can still log in by using the box at the bottom of the homepage, and we've hosted the 'Log Out' and 'Profile' buttons on our own web space so you'll still have access to the basics

Ladies & Gents,
We are launching a new website to replace Dave's original Trainweb one later this month. At the same time we will be giving the forum a full refurbishment, and as part of that, we will require a total of Ten Moderators.
In order to reach the required number, Art and DavidH have agreed to step back up to the Moderator role and they have been joined by Dstock7080 and MetControl.
We will be posting more details about the new website and forum refurbishment nearer the time, but for now we'd like you to join us in welcoming Art, DavidH, Dstock7080 and MetControl onto the forum staff.
ChrisW, Colin, Phil & Tubeprune.

Admin Comment:
The primary purpose of this thread is to allow persons such as MetControl to keep us all updated on S stock specific workings; we would therefore politely request that members refrain from posting in this thread so that the relevant information doesn't become lost in a discussion.
The usual disclaimer also applies: any information posted here is provided in good faith but is not guaranteed. These S stock workings may be substituted for an A stock or may not run at all.

We would once again like to remind those of you that have created new accounts that we are experiencing some delay in getting your accounts through our approval system. This is unfortunately due to the actions of those that have since been banned from the forum.
We are working through the list of those awaiting approval and would ask that you bear with us just a little while longer.

It is with great sadness that we have to announce that Dave Maloney, known to us all as "District Dave" and the first founder of this site, passed away peacefully at his home this morning following several months illness.
As members of Dave's "internet family" we are all deeply saddened by his passing and we are sending condolences to his wife and family.
The Forum Adminstrators have been in touch with Dave's family and they are aware of this thread which we'd like you all to treat as a book of condolence for Dave.

Unfortunately we have seen a number of members and/or accounts permanently suspended over the past two weeks - the latest belonging AndrewC.
Given the number of accounts we've had to suspend, which in turn has seen an inevitable explosion of newly created accounts [as those recently suspended members try to regain access to the forum], we are currently seeing longer delays in getting accounts approved. This is because of the more rigorous checks we have now put in place.
If you are a genuine new member to the forum, we apologise for the delay in getting your account approved - unfortunately it is thanks to the actions of others that you are suffering. We hope the delay does not put you off and that your patience will be rewarded.

Today is our Forum's 6th anniversary in the current Proboards format - in fact the Forum is actually well over 7 years old if you also count it's predecessor, the Bravenet version. So congratulations & thanks to all our members for being a part of our community, and we look forward to the next 6 years of continued success. The Forum's Administrators have planned a number of changes which we would have liked to implement in association with today's anniversary; for one reason or another we are not in a position to implement those plans just yet, but we would like to share some of them with you as a little teaser. This is the culmination of almost a year of behind the scenes work and we are certainly hoping to have it all implemented by the summer..... Highlights are: - Redesign and relaunch of Dave's "main website"
- Redesign and relaunch of this forum
- Choice of 4 skins on the forum
- Rules revision (Mainly our response to serious incidents on LU)
- Creation of an archive of useful threads
There are many elements within those highlights, plus a few more things we're keeping tight lipped on for now; we hope you'll be looking forward to them all with eager anticipation. We will be asking for your feedback on the choice of skins prior to implementation as we'll need to decide which will become the default for guests and members when signed out - this will be your chance to get a sneak preview of how the forum will change. More details nearer to implementation, whenever that may be.....

Further to the initial actions taken as detailed above, we have now made some additional changes in both the Metropolitan line and SSR group areas. We recently had the farcical situation whereby there were no less than 4 live threads all discussing S stock, and even more regarding A stock withdrawals including 4 separate threads all dedicated to one A stock unit. There was also some cross posting whereby some elements of one particular stock were being discussed in threads that were supposed to about the other stock. So with a uniform approach to both boards, we now have: - Deliveries list for S stock in the SSR group area - lists all units and shows their delivery/in service status in a clear easy to read table
- A stock withdrawals list in the Metropolitan line area - lists all units and shows their withdrawal/scrap dates in a clear easy to read table
- A discussion thread in both areas - use these to post your observations, thoughts and sightings. Also the threads to ask questions specifically related to S stock delivery and/or in service status, or A stock withdrawals and/or scrapping processes (as appropriate to each area)
- Image & video thread - images & videos only please; discussion goes in the threads described above unless they are absolutely specific to images/videos posted.
As a by product, it may have been noticed that we've also created a special 09ts deliveries table within the Victoria line area. We are looking at creating a 67ts withdrawals post too (if anyone could advise us regarding the fleet numbering scheme, that would be useful). Although the Victoria line area wasn't posing any issues, we felt having similar tables to those for the A and S stocks would be useful. It is your forum but please, do try to keep it tidy in future!!

Ladies & Gents, We are taking the unusual step of making it public knowledge that we have suspended the member known as deadmans for a period of 90 days (3 months), and have given that member a final warning. We are taking this action because: - This isn't the first time we have suspended this member
- This member created a situation whereby other members were being made to feel uneasy about posting in the Metropolitan line area [for fear of forum staff intervention]
We feel our members should be reassured that only one member was causing a particular problem, and they should be made aware that the problem member has now been removed. District Dave's Admin Team.

The status column will show whether a particular unit is in service, so that's the information we are looking for. The forum staff will be able to modify the table as appropriate. Ladies & Gents,
You may have noticed that a number of S stock threads have recently been moved to the SSR group board.
The reason for this action is that we've recently seen an explosion of new S stock threads created within the Metropolitan line board, despite the S stock being intended for all of of the SSR (Sub Surface Railway). Granted the current deliveries of S8's are Metropolitan line specific; however in the fullness of time we'll no doubt go through all the same subjects again once the S stock comes to the Circle, Hammersmith & City and District lines - it therefore makes sense that the vast majority of S stock discussion should be taking place within the SSR group board.
Furthermore, we have seen a number of threads created separately each time a new S stock is delivered or an A stock is withdrawn. Not only is this causing a lot of crossed information over several threads, it's making a general mess of the Metropolitan line area and it's getting harder and more confusing trying to follow what's new and what's gone.
To counter this and make life easier for all, two new posts have been created - one for A stock withdrawals and posted in the Metropolitan line area, and another for S stock deliveries, posted in the SSR group area. Both posts will require some initial information to be added, after which they will be kept updated as appropriate.
There will also be one additional thread created in the Metropolitan line area for the posting of all images and videos relating to the withdrawal of A stock. All other threads will be locked thus creating a new starting point.
We hope these actions will lead to a more sensible approach to posting in these areas and that finding the relevant information will be somewhat easier.

It would seem a reminder is in order regarding the subject of cab rides, and in particular gaining access to train cabs for the purpose of.
The forum staff would like to remind members that train cabs are a safety critical environment and that access to them is strictly controlled. The same applies to other safety critical environments such as signal cabins and line control rooms.
This forum should not be used as a means to arrange access to such environments be it by PM (rule 3e) or in a public post. LU/TfL has official points of contact and they should be used in all cases.

Ladies & Gents, The blue box under the advert at the top of the forum will only appear 5 times (5 login's); please note it's contents as Proboards have changed their Terms of Service ( click here if you can't link to it). It is important that you read and agree to abide by them, as you would have done when you created your account, as they are providing the Forum's software. If you don't agree, you should delete your account. You have two weeks to take this action, otherwise it will be deemed that you have read and accepted the new Proboards Terms of Service. The Terms of Service are in addition to our own forum rules.

Ladies & Gents,
The Forum Administrators have received an approach from both LU (London Underground) and BTP (British Transport Police) with regard to the posting of some sensitive information regarding things like the specific locations of S stock.
The concern raised by both LU and BTP is apparently related to security issues such as arming vandals with information that may assist in their activities.
Whilst the Forum Administrators are happy that all posts on this forum are quite ok (we'd have removed them if not), and that the forum rules we have in place are more than adequate, we would urge you all to consider the implications of any post prior to clicking on the post button.
If you are in any doubt at all regarding something you'd like to post, please approach a member of the forum staff first before posting.
The Administration Team.

Administrator Comment:
This thread was pulled by the moderator team, and has since been reviewed by the admin team, owing to concern at the content and nature of the opening post.
As you can see, we have re-instated the thread but with this added note that the forum staff do not condone such behaviour. We accept that 'glide1' has apologised for their past misdemeanour's, and that the incidents they took part in were some years ago.
We would like to further remind all readers that almost all LU stocks now have cab intruder alarms fitted to all doors which afford access to driving cabs from passenger areas, and that many carriages now have on board CCTV too.

Ladies & Gents,
Today is the Forum's 5th Birthday in it's current Proboards hosted format - the forum staff would like to thank all of our members for making this forum so successful.
To mark the occasion we have introduced a new board for the SSR (Sub Surface Railway) group of lines; those being the Circle, District, Hammersmith & City and Metropolitan lines. Because of the interaction between these lines during day to day operations, it is often true to say that discussion on a particular subject could easily fit onto more than one line specific board. We have moved a few recent threads across to the new board to give you an idea of the sort of subjects which will suit the new board.
Whilst the use of an SSR group is similar to London Underground's internal operations, we won't be using the deep level "tube" line groupings as the interaction between those lines just isn't the same as it is for the SSR lines.
We have also taken the opportunity to reword the description for the East London line board now that operation by London Overground is soon to become a reality.

This new board has been created to offer a more suitable home for the discussion of subjects which cover more than one SSR (Sub Surface Railway) line at the same time. The lines defined as forming the SSR are: - Circle
- District
- Hammersmith & City
- Metropolitan

As we have just started a new year, it was felt it would be a good time to make some minor changes to the forum staff.
AlanL, Solidbond and Tubeprune have moved from the Administrator role into a new staff group named 'Founders'. The 'Founders' are effectively non active Administrators; they still have Administrator powers and will be on hand to offer advise to the Administrators as and when they wish, but they will no longer take an active role in running the Forum.
District Dave, ChrisW, Colin and Phil will remain as Administrators.
As the Moderators are a little under-represented in terms of LU staff, we have decided to add Harsig to the Moderator team - we are sure he will be a welcome addition.

The Eagle eyed amongst may have noticed that we have a new Global Moderator on the forum - welcome aboard Rich32.
Rich32 brings with him a wealth of experience from the stations side of London Underground (and it just so happens that he's a thoroughly nice chap too!), so we are sure he will be a great addition to the Moderator team.

In the last two weeks there have been no less than three threads with sensible starts that have been hijacked by the 'what if' brigade and the staff have had to move them to the Railway Ideas, Proposals and Suggestions board..
Not only is it annoying to the rest of the members, especially the Original Poster, it is also rather discourteous to the OP. What then has made it worse in the cases mentioned is that (usually) two members have used the threads to have a go at each others' ideas, getting more and more acrimonious and personal.
We have been fairly tolerant about this up to now, but if we have to move any more threads due to the fantasists taking over and hijacking them we will take far stronger action regarding the individuals concerned.

Ladies & Gents,
The Admins have made some minor amendments to the rules - the full details are available in a post underneath the rules themselves, but the main principle change is the addition of some common sense stuff in relation to Private Messages.
We'd also like to point out that although we appreciate the rules look rather draconian, they are in fact purely common sense and are not intended to be seen as a stamp of authority. The main reason for their existence is to assist the forum staff, and you, by just having everything written down as a single point of reference.
There is no expectation that you must know every single word and you are not at risk of a random test to make sure! Just be aware that they exist, and that they are there for you to refer to at any time you wish.
This announcement is locked so if you have a burning desire to post a comment, please open a thread in the Members' Notice Board area.
The Admin team.

You may have noticed this thread had been removed for much of today - the reason for removal was due to the nature of the discussion over the last six or so posts. These posts have now been removed and, as you can see, the thread has been re-instated.
Please be aware that the forum staff have received a request asking that we refrain from second guessing the nature of events last Friday evening, that LU staff are not identified in any way and that any subsequent investigation that may or may not take place is not prejudiced by anything said here.
This is not brushing anything under the proverbial carpet, or covering anything up - it's a sensible request which we ask you all to respect.

Once again, although very rare, regrettably, it has been necessary to suspend a member permanently.
The member concerned is 'signalfailure'. He had previously been suspended for inappropriate language in posting and had only just returned from a 30 day (private*) suspension. He tried the same thing again, and when challenged by the forum moderators, publicly posted his discontent at the decisions made.
Hence he was immediately temporarily suspended whilst the Admins decided what to do, but he chose to respond to the person suspending him with a load of explicit verbal abuse.
Long-standing members will know this exact scenario happened before, a couple of years ago, and the Admins have applied the same sanction in this case, namely permanent suspension.
We are very fortunate on this forum to have a great load of members who enjoy being here and contributing and cause no trouble at all, but this is a reminder to the odd one or two (out of over 500) who think they can cause mischief. DON'T. It's bad enough to have to be suspended, but then to respond with abuse to the Admins will always get the same sanction as above.
*Many of the actions taken with members are private, as in 'being called into the boss's office' rather than being shouted at in public. In the vast majority of cases (in themselves very few) the member concerned realizes what they have done, usually apologizes, and peace is restored without any further recurrence. Only if this fails is the matter brought to forum members' attention, as in this case.

This tutorial shows you how to post a reply to a thread on the forum; if you wish to start a new thread on a new subject, you should go to the create a thread tutorial ( click here). The first step is to locate the 'reply' button at the bottom left hand corner of the last post. You will now see the create a post screen: There are options to change the font and size of font, and alongside those are a host of special effects via the Grey buttons. Essentially the coding does two things - tells Proboards to start doing whatever it is you want to do (make things bold, or centred, or what have you), and tells Proboards to stop doing it afterwards. Now depending on which method you chose to create your post, will depend on what yo see/do with these options. In the bottom left hand corner you have two options - 'Visual' and 'BBCode'. 'Visual' is simply a what-you-see-is-what-you-get editor, whereas BBCode shows you all the coding associated with Grey button options. If you chose to use the 'Visual' option, you simply highlight the text you wish to change, then click on the relevant Grey box and you'll see the effect applied instantly. If you're using the 'BBCode' option, when you click on any of the buttons you'll see some code in square brackets. Don't panic - it might look techy but it's very easy to understand! With a code such as [b ] (start making things bold) you will see it followed by [/b ] (stop making things bold). Whatever text you place between these two blocks of code will end up bold, e.g. [b ]this text is bold[/b ] becomes this text is bold. If you want to add two things, such as colour and underlined, then your code will look like this: [u ][font colo r="Maroon"]coloured, underlined text[/f ont][/ u] (which will come out as coloured, underlined text). You can either type these codes out manually, or as when using the 'Visual' option, highlight the text you want to format and click on the relevant button, which will automatically enclose that text in the relevant code. For more complicated stuff (such as tables) it's well worth typing them out manually to keep track of what's what. We have created some tutorials related to the buttons above; subjects available are: Clicking on any of the above subjects will take you to the appropriate tutorial. The large white area (Grey on all white themes) is where you should type the text of your post, and where the codes will appear when you click on the relevant buttons. The white box will automatically expand as required. At the bottom, 'Create Post' does exactly that. If you are replying in a thread that's already been created by someone else, you can scroll down the screen wehere you'll find a 'Thread summary'; all the posts in that thread! here is a 'topic summary' underneath, should you need it. There is also a 'Quick Reply' box at the bottom of the page in every thread - you can simply type your text here (including the required codes to manipulate your text, if you know them) and hit the 'Post Quick Reply' button. If using this option, we would recommend you read the whole thread first! If you make a mistake, you can make changes to your post and we've created a tutorial to show you how ( click here).
