A few years ago there was an Edgware Road - Olympia service that ran in the morning peak only. Alternate C Stocks ran to Olympia then Wimbledon.
I think it was abandoned as so many C Stocks got gapped between EC1 signal and the platform.

Not sure about the reason for the abandonment, but it was a fair while ago - WTT 118 (28/10/91); and Olympia wasn't even in the main WTT galley then! Plaistow (District) reversers were stopped too in this WTT.

For the Olympics I believe! I've just acquired a copy of the 1946 reopening STN/TTN - when it finally arrives in my paws I'll be interested to see if anything is mentioned in the footnotes, as the renaming took place the day before on 19/12/46.

In the late 90s there was definatly an Olympia to Edgware Road service during the evening peaks and quite possibly the morning peaks as well.

As recently as last summer I think I saw the DMI at Paddington (District & Circle) scrolling a message along the lines of "when Olympia service is running, change at Earls Court for Wimbledon". Presumably this is a holdover from the days when trains ran through to Olympia from there.

Quite possibly - it could be the old Train Description equipment having a bit of a sulk, then what it thought was an inspired guess.

So what is the point of reducing the Olympia service then? Also, I don't think there will be enough C stock to run T cup, if all Wimblewares run to Edgware Road. If some did terminate at High Street Kensington, it would all make sense, as there would be less Olympias terminating there, and also the 'spare' D stock could be used on the Wimbledon - HSK service, and that would mean there would be enough C stock for T cup. I don't think it will work with all Wimblewares going to Edgware Road, at least until some 7-car S stock is delivered, and that won't be for a few years. Then, there is the problem of too many trains terminating at Edgware Road. What he said !!! (with thanks to My Ol Mans A Mushroom for the update !)

What is the frequency of the Wimbleware service currently? Might the plan work (in terms of having sufficient stock) if everything runs to a 10 min schedule instead of the current mix of 10 min and 7 1/2 min service patterns?

It's one of the programmed messages that can be added to the old style DMIs. Most likely still there as either the keyboard is broken and no-one makes them anymore, or it's hidden somewhere! There's a few other places where the DMI has a scrolling "advice" message that is out of date!

What is the frequency of the Wimbleware service currently? 10 mins off peak and 8 mins in the peaks.

Just to elaborate a little for the District, prior to 30.11.70, the peak hour services were 7½ mins on the branches which, through the central area with the Circle, had 32 trains per hour (tph). At the time the District Hounslow peak service was withdrawn in October 1964, there were 36tph through the central area (i.e. 4tph Hounslow).
From 30.11.70 the interval through the central area was changed to an even 2-minutes (30tph), which meant an 8-minute service (Ealing, Richmond, Wimbledon, Circle) plus 8 mins Wimbledon-Edgware Road. There were variations over the years especially between the Ealing and Richmond services, but the 30tph remained "in the middle".
From 29.09.02, the central area service was changed and based on an 8½-minute service from each branch (Ealing, Richmond, Wimbledon, Circle) plus 8½ mins Wimbledon-Edgware Road. This was done because of train throughput problems, mostly on the north side of the Circle with its computerised signalling, with Aldgate being a specific bottleneck.

I was under the impression that frequencies through the central area used to be higher but the journey times were slower. Would rather have a faster journey.

There is a photo of a Standard Tank with ECS coming in to Kensington (Olympia) in STEAM WORLD out now [ dated 30th June 1967 I seem to recall]. You can see the District bay clearly on the right.
