Typical railway is the new platforms at Stratford. As most of you will probably not know the date of 2 January 2009 for the opening was rather stretching it a bit. After dishing out 4,000 plus leaflets letting everybody know, after putting up posters at all of the LOROL stations letting passengers know, LOROL have finally accepted that after top level meetings with TFL, with Network Rail and then the Department of Transport that the date be put back to an as yet unspecified date in........................FEBRUARY................maybe. This has reprocussions on the Docklands Light Railway who wanted to start the work modifying the low level platforms. If the DLR needs to start the work as soon as possible, they could terminate the Overground service at Hackney Wick, and run a replacement bus service to Stratford until the new platforms are ready. The passengers wouldn't like it, but then people who go to Stratford a lot would be used to engineering work suspending the service (on the Jubilee and DLR), and the journey times wouldn't be that much longer, as the replacement bus route wouldn't be that long.

This thread saved me a trip up to Stratford to see how ready the platforms were (not a lot, it appears).

Are the old platforms 1 & 2 going to return to use on Jan 2 or will buses suffice until the new facilities are commissioned?

Overground standard is the banner for certain stations. I think the reason for the roundels is because off the interchange with Central Line for Southern customers. Alerting them to the fact Tube services are accessable from this station (I know its a seprate station across the road but passangers care not for this).
Whats interesting is that Stratford was rebranded before Shepherd's Bush opened with new Banners.

Are they banners rather than roundels because they are not tfl managed platforms...? (Take a look at the central line platforms at Stratford for example)

Similar banner signs are at Clapham Junction and Barking, which are National Rail-managed, but Stratford is *LU*-managed.

Barking could do with some new banner signs on platforms 2, 3 & 6 as it has old and faded ones

TFL, I have had alleged at me, only have bits - not necessarily the bits you'd expect. (For certain: of the public areas, up to the first JLE gateline at least; I asked once why the platform DMIs couldn't be sited or duplicated in an easier spot for people coming down the stairs, and was told NR ownership was the issue.)

Not surprised the platforms aren't ready tbh, come to expect lateness from London Overground

Also note that Kenny O has join Sliverlink/LU station signs on the District platform (well last time I was there that is) and different signage on the 'main' platforms.

Yeah I'm just messing you about really. Would conform more with TfL's "consistent corporate image" philosophy if they put up the same signs everywhere though.

Whats the actual problem - what has not been carried out that was necessary for the platforms to open?

Im sure the plan is to do that but they dont seem to be able to make up their minds! I have to say that the banner signs with the orange strip do look good especially at places where the Overground is only a minor provider of services, ie Stratford, Clapham Junction. It clear to customers with the signage tho which service calls where with different kinds tho it does look bad when you have as many as you do at Startford (DLR, LO, LU & NXEA). I wonder what the signage on the new Central Line platform at Stratford will be seeing as its on the 'LU' side of the station?

Just an update but when I got home tonite the Overground platforms were lit up and the destination boards were up and displaying trains and station. For any one interested they look to be the same as the ones at Euston.

Sorry to bump this thread. But for those track bashers, this coming week the last two trains to Stratford are booked to run into the High Level.

According to a notice posted on the current Platform 1, the new date for the transfer to the new platforms 1 and 2 is SOT Wednesday 15 April. Not sure how/when they plan to re-model Channelsea South Jn, as the new tracks and OHLE still stop abruptly, before they would link/be re-aligned to the current divergence.

What they should to is build a temporary bridge across the old North London Line tracks, so that people coming off the Jubbly don't have to go up and over and down to exit.
