The rat car bogies have been stripped and rebuilt ready for action, all wheel sets have been turned and the car is now on 27 road. Sandite pumps are being overhauled, but to my mind the depot is slighty behind with this work. We shall soon find out either way

Will it be in a five car or four car formation this year? I seem to remember someone somewhere saying it has to be four cars now, but I still remember seeing it as a five car set a few years back.

It was five cars for quite some time, but for the last few years four cars has been the norm. This helps no end in keeping the wear and tear down on the unit.

Its a coupler around one meter long. One ends fits straight into the auto coupler, via a manual hook, and the other end fits straight into the housing on a trailer car. This end is held in place, with a large solid pin. Thus any trailer car car be moved by a four car unit around the depot. Hardly used these days,a part from rat duties.

Going slightly off on a tangent.... but what are the plans for the RAT in the future with regard to S stock. Could they keep the RAT A stock as a heritage/sandite train

Chiltern still have a class 121/115 on leaf duty! Quite so, and the units that'll be used this year are, like the RAT, undergoing their exams at Aylesbury as we speak for the sandite season.

The coupler on the RAT looks like an old style WARD coupler!

1) Is the RAT car used other than during leaf-fall season? 2) Does the RAT car still have the original line maps, seating moquettes, etc ?

I sure was lucky in 2006, when i saw it coming into Marylebone with the Maroon 121 Without wishing to sound too cryptic - that was then, this is now!! This year, I would expect to see the same units that were in service last year, i.e. 960010 (Maroon), 960014 (Blue/Grey) and 960301 (Water-Jet).

Can someone post running times when the RAT starts operation. Not being in my usual place of work I'm not able to consult the relevant TTN.

The R A T train is formed this year with, 5066 - 6036 - 6067 - 5067, this unit has just finished its programme lift, and thus is ready for the leaf fall season.

Saw the RAT in Uxbridge Sidings ~ 13:30 this afternoon. At first I thought it was some advertising livery, then I looked again and it was the RAT.
I think it would look a bit neater (and may do better for deterring passengers) if they vinyled Rail Adhesion on the other cars aswell. I know that it generally passes through stations rather than stopping, but inevitably it will stop, and one day some idiot is going to try and get on and hurt themselves...

The problem is that the unit the car is in varies. There are signs on the doors normally! Nothing will help to be fair!
