NEW WOOD LANE STAITON-Hammersmith and City Line: "Wood Lane is a future London Underground station currently under construction in west London on the Hammersmith & City Line . It will be located adjacent to Wood Lane in the White City area and will serve the new Westfield London shopping centre being developed nearby. It has been designed by Ian Ritchie Architects. When openes, the station will be between Latimer Road and Shepherd's Bush stations. The station will be a short walk from White City station on the Central line providing an easy interchange between the lines. A short distance to the south along the tracks from the site of the new station is the site of a former Wood Lane station (later called "White City") that closed after a fire on one of the wooden platforms in 1959. TfL announced that due to the popularity of Oyster cards across the Underground network, there would be no ticket office in the new station." from wikipedia: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wood_Lane_%28Hammersmith_%26_City_Line%29_tube_station__________________________ So, what do you think of that? I can't say much becaus I don't really know the area, but one thing which caught my eye was that there would be no ticket office. I'm aware of the popularity of the Oyster Card but i'm surpised that It got to this extreme. P.S Does anyone knnow when it will open, I know it's this year, but I don't know which day.

I do know the date - it's also the date Shepherd's Bush (Met) is renamed and Shepherd's Bush (Cen) should reopen.
I'm not sure if it's in the public domain though so I'd best not say at this stage. What I can say is that the H&C/Circle timetables are the ones which will be used once Wood Lane is open.

I'm quite sure the no ticket office/restricted hours opening is a deliberate ploy which will come to fruition soon. Basically LU will propose drastic staff cuts for people who will have effectively, through no fault of their own, "done nothing" for ages, and whose position abolition will have no logical defence. No wonder TSSA, at long last, and belatedly, are starting to rattle their cage.... I noted hand-written unofficial notices in booking office windows at the east end of the District Line saying how those behind the glass were unable to sell tickets between certain hours, this is obviously exactly what LU wants! Customer-focused? I don't think so...

"no ticket office"
That's LU's commitment to "customer service"

If the station staff are put on platforms and the gate instead then you shouldn't lose out on customer service but that never happens in big organisations. Also when you remove cash handling from someone's job description you can pay them less and get lower skilled staff in. The unions should lean on tfl to ensure at least one person has a float (or do you guys have multiple users on one till?) whilst a station is open even if they aren't constantly on it.

At least at Wood Lane you can walk to an alternative station with a booking office if it comes to it... But I think generally losing people who can deal with ticketing (rather than point you to a machine or a "help"line) available for the builk of the day is important. Maybe ticket office staff should have more ability to deal with unresolved journeys on oyster etc. that'd keep them busy

Well, regardless of the reason - if the staff are not needed, then frankly - they are not needed. To keep paying them a salary to do nothing would be complete foolishness. As an aside, the plans for the Crossrail stations also call for minimal ticket selling facilities for the same reason, most journeys will use the Oyster card.

Very annoying - today I found I had been charged for an unresolved journey through no fault of my own, and was told by the assistant that I would need to either return tomorrow, when they bother to open the ticket office, or else go to King's Cross, where they are open today. "And how" I asked "when I have a negative balance on my Oyster card, because your system has cocked up, am I supposed to get there?". She didn't have an answer for that one...

Had exactly the same problem before, bit of a joke.
Maybe having a different menu when staff oysters tap in could deal with refunds via the machines, they give change right?
Westfield London (the shopping centre) is planned to open on 30th October. So would mid-October be likely opening date for the stations?

Will maps be updated to show interchange between the H&C and Central (White City)?

Will maps be updated to show interchange between the H&C and Central (White City)? Probably in the way that Canary Wharf is indicated right now, ie. an outerchange interchange. And I don't mind seeing ticket offices go as long as stations are still staffed and there's someone there to help you. It is annoying that staff always just refer you to the Oyster helpline, obviously, but I think the situation will probably get better once Oyster is accepted anywhere in London and paper tickets can simply be gotten rid of for inter-London journeys.

That would be all well and good if it worked flawlessly, but given that there are so many ways that it can and does go wrong, the system is not reliable enough to do away with staff. Additionally, there will always be a need for paper tickets in London until the National Rail network replaces paper ticketing with a compatible smart card system. I cannot see that happening in the next decade at least.

I much rather have staff walking around and being more accessible to passengers. I also said inter-London, as in travelling from one place to another within London. Obviously paper tickets will be needed for national rail for quite a while still. I am sure that the more accepted Oyster is, the more people will use and depend on it, and the more flaws will eventually be evened out.

As work on the station nears completion (?) more of the platform and signage is being revealed. On the westbound you can now see the route map with "Shepherd's Bush Market" marked instead of Shepherd's Bush - the first notification of the impending name change i've seen on official LU signage.

I wonder if Wood Lane will have DMIs and, if so, will they actually do any more than duplicate the role of light-box indicators (I:E; just display one train at a time with no time-to-arrival data)?

If they are there, it is impossible to show next trains at the moment! Oh dear - sounds like the possibility of (yet another) set of expensive DMIs being installed that helpfully tell us what line we're on and nothing else! ;D

Will that upgrade give the whole of the H&C a full DMI service similar to those on the Jubilee, Central, Victoria etc lines? Or will the DMIs still only be able to "see" each train from the nearest junction to the station concerned?

Eventually the whole SSR will be like the Central, all controlled from one place, though hopefully without the motors falling off!. At the moment the Hammersmith branch and a few other sections are black holes.

(At least, there weren't any when I was on the platform). At the moment it isn't possible to set up any Train Descriptions for H&C trains until Edgware Road - and there are no plans to change that.

I was there last week on the H&C and I passed Wood Lane. I couldn't see DMI systems. Just saw the maps and Shepherds Bush had been renamed to Shepherds Bush Market. I will go there next week and try to get some pictures or videos

Although I've not seen them myself, I've been told that C Stock car maps are starting to get WOOD LANE added already.
