Note the D Stock almost in the sand trap, presumably being shunted (as we have seen before in pix on DD'sF)

"thanks to member 21146 for suppling those timings for today so ive had an idea, can we please have a section on this forum for members in the know to tell us when an unusual train movement will happen" I second and third and fourth this idea! There are several problems with this idea. Firstly, I'm not one of those people who wants to play "secret squirrel" and keep everything under my hat so to speak, so that only I, or a choice few, get to hear about odd workings. I'm sure a number of people here get to see the Special Trains Notices where moves of this kind are shown. However they are internal documents and I would not like to be accused of abusing my inclusion on the distribution list by routinely posting these on-line in some format. OK, stuff to do with the Amersham event is enthusiast fair-game but, say, post-7/7 repaired C Stock transfers were a little more sensitive. Also many of the STNs detail events which frankly look nothing unusual, where normal stock run empty for test purposes and would not be of interest. The Amersham event *has* produced a flurry of strange workings but this is most unusual, in general the Weedkilling and Track Recording trains are the only regular daytime operations. Yes there are battery loco moves but these seem to be arranged on an ad-hoc basis, so for example the "Train 500" which preceded the 38TS yesterday was a welcome, but totally unexpected, surprise to me. Bear in mind also that many of the moves get cancelled or run early - for example forgoing the "lunch" meal relief for a quick return trip back on the principle of "job & finish". If someone wants to precis the STNs and post details here that would be fine, after all the LU enthusiast world is small enough not to encourage hundreds of people to turn up just to look at a battery loco (I think!).

The 1938TS should transfer from Northfields depot [20 30] to Neasden depot [22 09] tonight as T747 via Rayners Lane [21 25] and Ruislip siding [21 34]. Alas too dark for me to bother venturing out with the camera but it should pause in platform 3 at Acton Town EB [20 40] whilst awaiting the shunt to clear, where a hand-held, stationary, shot of the rear should be possible.

Thanks to all involved - I really enjoyed it on the first trip from Harrow (which I only just made!) Managed to get a (poor) photo of the Watford Triangle, although I thought it would be bigger than it actually was. Anyhow, my Flickr stream for the day is here: www.flickr.com/photos/9112609@N02/sets/72157607287801898/and there'll be some random reflections about the day on my blog: ( londonstuff.blogspot.com) in a day or so. It was nice to see so many people there, including ones that had just turned up at random stations to get passing shots - I even saw one man waiting in his garden (at least I hope it was his garden) just by Amersham to get a few shots. We even got good weather Let's hope that there's more trips like this one to come. I did hear a whisper months ago about a proposed trip cutting across the Jubillee/Bakerloo crossover?

I had a lovely day too, and met some great new people, including fellow staff, including one who lives about a minute's walk from where I live....spooky! ;D

Are there going to be any more movements to get Sarah Siddons back to her storage location?

Let's hope there can be "Northfields - Acton", or "Northfields - West Kensington" event using Sarah and the 38TS at some point.

Does Sarah Siddons run under it's own power or is it pushed/pulled by the deisal loco at the other end?

It used to be towed, or was the tractor as the case may be. I can imagine that either loco is 'live' i.e. ticking-over in the diesel loco, for braking purposes.
On one tour years ago Sarah was gapped when running-round in Uxbridge Sidings. That was extremely interesting to see as the crew got out and used the emergency jumper cable. Now they'd just use the diesel to push I suppose!
I have only cabbed Sarah once with the Brake Block test guys. Running light engine it was just like being in a classic tramcar...and the equipment was a wonder to behold. I do though wonder how much of John Hampden is in Sarah? They used to 'exchange' parts!

As an aside may I ask who owns 20 189 please? I assume it has tripcocks fitted. Is it speed-rated on LU, and is it banned from any parts of the system?

They were originally D8000–D8199 and D8300–D8327, and then under TOPS became Class 20. D8000 becamse 20 050. 20 189 was originally D8189. I have not got my Class 40 book that I rewrote to hand, but I think that some Class 20s were the last to be in original green. There is chapter-and-verse somewhere as to which was the last on BR. I do know that we had a pair of green 20s in 1981 on a railtour. These green locos were still allocated TOPS numbers and painted as such. I can imagine that for ease the TOPS number is retained altthough it would be nice to see its original number as well.

Does Sarah Siddons run under it's own power or is it pushed/pulled by the deisal loco at the other end? On Sunday The class 20 pulled the train towards London/ Watford and Sarah pulled towards Amersham. The class 20 is privately owned by someone in the midlands but the test train operator who I was speaking to couldn't tell me who. Edit: Oh yes, The class 20 is tripcock fitted, which is why she has to travel cab end first.
