Does anyone have the new (?) Metropolitan DEV out from V125? (I'm not sure how long it's been out, but I didnt see it before when I went into Ian Allan a few weeks ago).
If so, whats it like, seeing as I wanna know if it's a good buy or not, before I part with 20 quid.

The met main line production originally came out in 95/96, it came out on dvd in 2004. Their recent production was east london and district[omits the new x gate of the ell] which came out dec 2005.Its very good.

The DVD version is the same as the VHS version as far as I know, just in DVD format with all the perks of a DVD.

To answer your question Joe it is a good DEV. It's filmed on Refurbed and Unrefurbed A Stock, covers every part of the route (well nearly, it doesn't cover the North curve from Ricky into Watford and omits most of the slow lines, though every station is visible) and features drivers and staff wearing proper uniforms! The production was filmed in really good conditions, and the colours have come out really well, particularly on the Chesham shuttle. It features a little look inside the Baker St control, and also Harrow O - T - H signal cabin. The commentary is quite nicely written on it too, and is a nice DEV to watch

I see in a thread in the quiz section that you've just bought the Met DVD Joe, is it as good as you thought?

Yup it is Alex Although, to continue with Marty's post above, our old mate Rob also says '' This is Harrow on the Hill, the crewe of the Metropolitan Line'' - twice he's said that now (Northern and Met DEVs) - wonder how many other stations he's gonna apply that saying too??

wonder how many other stations he's gonna apply that saying too?? :-p He says it about Earl's Court on one of the two District Line DEVs too, I think it was the older Met/District one.

To be fair to RC, he is probably only reading what was written for him by the scriptwriter.
Incidently, what does the commentary for the 'Royal Scot' WCML DEV say when it reaches Crewe. What about "...and now we approach Crewe, the Camden Town of the West Coast Mainline!"

Incidently, what does the commentary for the 'Royal Scot' WCML DEV say when it reaches Crewe. What about "...and now we approach Crewe, the Camden Town of the West Coast Mainline!" At Crewe on the Royal Scot he says "Choose ten people at random to name the first railway junction they can think of, and nine will say Crewe"

I still think Clapham Junction would be more common but who knows, Crewe doesn't seem to be that popular for interchange these days.

Yes, funny that, I thought most people [myself included, and being a londoner] would have said Clapham Junction. [In the style of Rob Curling] we are now approaching Clapham Junction, the "crewe" of south London, which incidentally has services to Victoria, Waterloo, Wimbledon, Woking etc etc. ;D

Also on the Piccadilly dev, he says Piccadilly Circus is the "crewe" of the picc, surely it should be Acton Town?

Yes, Piccadilly Circus is more the Preston or the Rugby of the WCML.

Anyone care to guess where Rob Curling thinks the "crewe" of the Bakerloo is, before it is released in a couple of years time? ;D

I'd say Baker St.
"An interchange here with the Jubilee, Metropolitan, Hammersmith and City and Circle lines means that Baker Street is sometimes refered to as the Crewe of the Bakerloo Line"

No! East London's "Crewe" is Whitechapel. Besides the District, the H&C also serves the station incidentally... [one more 'line' than Canada Water, which incidentally only requires two lettwers changed in each word and you get Canary Wharf]

Canary Waffer thin mint... Ah Mr Creosote.....a funny moment of British comedy. Just out of idle curiosity, does anyone know the Met WTT no. when the video was filmed? My guess would be 305/306.

I remember him saying (or at least i think it was him) on approaching (i think) Putney Bridge on the new DL one "how OLD is that?!" when referring to that 25 mph speed sign. That was quite funny.

Yes....I'm not sure how the humour suits RC's narration, there's one bit in the 1989 DEV of the H&C where at Kings Cross we see a shot of a sweeping machine painted in Intercity livery. RC says: "By the way, Intercity also run trains." I think that one had the same effect.

Yes at kings x the guy on the c stock train is determined to get his moment of fame, eyeballs the camera, and even cranes his neck as the train pulls out!!!! This and the central line dev seem very dated now!! ;D

If you also look at the Central Line Past & Present DVD, theres a shot of Holborn being built around the old running tunnel. Two or three trains pass, then theres one of the motorman looking back at the camera!!!! And not forgetting the V125 Piccadilly DEV. I'd like to know who it was that eyeballed the camera at every given moment.... She got in at ACT and took us to CFS.

That was the t/op, or a pleb very good at stopping a train in an exact spot. Her announcements were rubbish, very monotone voice, like the guy who narrates some of the j&k films. I like the bit on the picc dev, where it leaves kings x, and rc talks about Lloyd George being unable to start a train because the controller wouldnt fit. Still they had something tasty to eat at the Piccadilly Criterion!!! ;D

It had summat to do with a gold control key. An engineer who just happened to be on stage offered to file it down, but was politely refused. A replacement was found and the train continued.
Then theres the case of the Queen opening the Victoria line and trying to buy a ticket with a specially minted sixpence. Not surprisingly, the machine refused it, as well as a second and a third. Eventually the guests found a coin the machine agreed to swallow...
