Going back to the met dev!!!, I am sure members have noticed at Harrow [on the Amersham run] the t/op [or is it me!] gives Peter Middleton a funny/dirty look, as presumably he cant see the starter clearly enough. The train departs, so incidentally the signal has cleared. Incidentally this train will be calling at Moor Park, Rickmansworth, Chorleywood, Chalfont and Latimer and Amersham. Mind the doors. ;D

I like the way he puts the 60 into top notch and hammers over the points and christ knows what speed. Like on the pic leaving hammer, theres a disctinctive lurch of the camer as it takes in a close up view of the cab upright!

Again is it it me but on the picc dev, I think its round Turnpike Lane or Wood Green, but not certain, she almost has a spad, she is hurtling towards a red aspect, and incidentally she gets an eyeball from the t/op waiting to exit cockfosters! ;D

Heading to Heathrow I think we pull into Hatton X and one can just hear the deadman being released just before the camera cuts off....

The guy on the central dev from Epping to Ongar looks happy doesnt he? Is he still on the central, he looked fairly young back then [1992] ;D

Going to go a bit OT here. But talking of incidents in DEVs, has anyone got a copy of Video125’s fantastic Paris - Marseille TGV DEV? At one point the train (a TGV Duplex) is absolutely flooring it along at top 186mph across the LGV and a bird almost misses the train by INCHES! it almost looked like it had wacked the poor thing off camera because it was so close! That would of totally screwed the production if it had happened, god knows how many tonnies of metal travelling at nearly 300kph wacking a small innocent bird… Lovely!

If yuo think thats bad take a look at further V125 productions
Northern Lights - HST to Aberdeen. Just before Stonehaven, HST rounds bend bird takes off and you hear thud, followed by a tut from either the cameraman or driver
Norfolk Branches - one of them we have another bird meets train incident

Has anyone got that old Bakerloo VHS? At one of the stops, the T/Op comes flying into the platform and he has to cosh it. Any standing passengers would have been happy.

Has anyone got Locomaster Profiles 'A Load of Rubbish'? I love the sheep on the line north of Aylesbury, which the staff and narrater get off the train and try to shoo the sheep away with tree branches!

Yeah, I got it, along with the companion - Out of the tunnel and into the depot...
Shamu Video Productions.... I like it where he's at Oxo C and tries to say what lines to change for.... "Baker.....Bake....Victoria Line...."

I had a bit of a chuckle when you see the driver almost ducking out of the way ;D. I felt I was entitled to chuckle though as I had a hit a bird a few days earlier at 100mph in a Meridian. It flew out of nowhere straight into the windscreen. Jumped out of my skin! It took a few minutes for me to regain a steady heart-rate again! I've also got 1066dc which is quite nostalgic (filmed in the late 1980's). There is an outside view of the train arriving into one of the stations, and it's a really rough stop - squealing brakes, and a load of water flies out of the water tank overflow pipe between the coaches!

Ah, now were talkin: 1066dc. Wonderful production in the days before the Network South East patriotic livery was slapped over everything!

It's amazing how many things you notice on the DEVs after you watch them again and again. Funny, on the Met one at Uxbridge you see a guy running for the train and missing it. Anyone seen the Uckfield Thumper one? They even show the driver puffing on a fag in the cab!

Well I've seen most of the productions mentioned, and agree with what all of you have put! Going back to the met dev!!!, I am sure members have noticed at Harrow [on the Amersham run] the t/op [or is it me!] gives Peter Middleton a funny/dirty look, as presumably he cant see the starter clearly enough. I always thought he was checking to see if he had displayed the right destination, but now you mention it the starter is a more likely reason. Has anyone got that old Bakerloo VHS? At one of the stops, the T/Op comes flying into the platform and he has to cosh it. Any standing passengers would have been happy. Now I don't know if I got a dodgy copy, but the VHS I have of this is nearly unwatchable. If it was produced a bit better it would actually be a really good DEV. That would of totally screwed the production if it had happened, god knows how many tonnies of metal travelling at nearly 300kph wacking a small innocent bird… Lovely! This reminds me of a Fotopic site, run by a Chiltern trains driver. I can't remember the name of it, but if I find it I'll post the link. There's one close up shot of a mangled bird, caught up in the front skirt of a Class 168 DMU after it collided with it at some speed. It's quite grim. Anyone seen the Uckfield Thumper one? They even show the driver puffing on a fag in the cab! I was quite surprised when I saw that actually. The bloke on it must smoke 100 a day! Every time we saw him he had a roll up on the go! EDIT: Here's the link to the pic I was on about. It isn't too nice though rpm-railpics.fotopic.net/p25155639.html

The bird I am sure will end up in one of those awful fried chicken shops!!! As for 1066dc, yes its a good film, but Peter Egan, while having a lovely voice, sounds really bored, and it is sterile in delivery. Its like he is reading the news. Highland main line, which is narrated by Sally Magnusson, is one of my favourite devs. Great route, lovely turbostar, decent picture, and a great narrator. Love the scottish accent, very friendly and warm and she sounds like she cares as well!!! In the met dev I think its a woman running for the train at uxbridge and misses it!!. Notice the driver of the Amersham train also Does the Watford branch, finds it hilarious the kids are waving at the camera, ruining the film, well it serves peter middleton right for obstucting the starter at Hoth. Also the guy on the down fishguard, who accepts the token for the single line section, is this him? [middleton]. ;D

Seeing as I'm off school sick with a cold and cooped up in the house, I thought I'd watch some DEVs again.
Watching the Cross City one at the moment and that Kay Alexander woman sounds too sterile narrating the thing. I guess that's cause she's a professional newsreader or whatever.
The driver on the Cross City seems very lifeless too. At one point they cut to shot of him sitting there waiting for the buzzer. You'd think he was a manican!

You're right about Kay Alexander, she indeed presented (or may still do present) BBC Midlands Today for years (local show for Cross City) and has a slot on BBC Radio 2.

Not forgetting whats-his-name on Cambrian Coast; Machynlleth to Barmouth.
In typical delightful Welsh accent "Suddenly the whole view changes"
I like the out take one on V125 called simply Tracks. No narration, just captions as to location, train etc. on one we're onboard a HST flying along at full whack, pass a few signals and get the reassuring AWS bell. Pass the 4th signal, get the bell and theres this alarm, followed by complete emergency brake. The train was undertaking ATP trials on the GW main line, around Langley.

Seeing you're a fan of classical music tubeboy, you should try the Midland Mainline DEV.

I was thinking if 125 do another Southern region DEV, that ITN's Nicholas Owen would be an excellent narrator - he's a good presenter and at one time was editor of the Southern Electric Groups 'Live Rail' magazine - so must have an interest in trains. Mind you his fee is probably a bit more than the other narrators they have had.

Seeing you're a fan of classical music tubeboy, you should try the Midland Mainline DEV. The driver in that video is now my Driver Standards Manager, and passed me out for driving two and a half years ago. He said the first he knew of the filming was on the actual day! Wonder how much warning District Dave got?

Greetings all.....
Firstly I think Nicholas would be great for this - and I'm sure would be ameanable...
Railways are a passion of his, and there is some - ummmm... how can I put this... 'some previous contact' in matters such as this.....
I was actually involved a a very early stage in the Video 125's production, and actually was able to choose not only when it was done, but the trains that would be involved.
There are still stories to be told - one day..........................
