I see my guilty secret's out then!
I wondered where a photo that was mailed to me had come from - now I know........
Bad luck Wayne - maybe you should be nicer to Sully!!
In the fullness of time though I do intend doing a write up of the day I was involved in it and believe me it was quite a day!

Got my copy today I must say, it's a very proffesional effort. Question for Dave, how did you manage to close the o/s doors with the camera guy and his stuff in the way? A write up of the day would certainly be an interesting read. Well done Dave; I wouldn't want a camera watching my every move for such a long time.

Well, I'm still waiting to see it - next week I hope! As for the o/s doors... Well, that was a challenge, but as it was only me and the camerman in the cab we did get his kit stowed so that it was not too hard to get round! Fortunatley I'm quite thin so could get round him OK! As for the question of being watched - after a while you just forget it; I just mentally decided to do my job as normal! (Don't think I picked me nose - or if I did I hope it was edited out )

So was there a camera on you?

So was there a camera on you? Yes - the way it works is for the main camera to be rigged through the front cab windows but there's a 'mini cam' that is permanently on the driver. I must admit I was surprised at the quality of the shots from that when I saw a couple of sample views.

How exactly does this sort of thing work for the T/Op concerned, anyway?

How about this: After Video 125 got permission from LU management to film a DEV of the District Line, how were the T/Ops informed and what sort of arrangements were made to allow the cameraman to get into the cab?

Ah - OK, I'm with you now!!
Essentially it went something like this....
Video125 got permission from the appropriate part of LU who in turn informed our line management. This was then passed to our Line Standards Manager.
He, in turn, passed it to me to make the actual arrangements.
I decided which trains I wanted to use and approached the T/Ops concerned to seek their agreement to being not only the train, but to be filmed themselves.
The way we set the cameras up was for this to be done whilst the train was travelling on its trip in the opposite direction to that on which the recording would be done, so effectively the kit was set up in what was the back cab.
In this case the cameraman was under my charge so he wasn't unaccompanied.
On the case of the Richmond trip, the driver I relieved just rode back to Earls Court in the car. On the other trips I was in the cab with the T/Op who was driving.
Hope that makes sense!

Interesting - in most of Video 125's DEVs you only tend to see at most two T/Ops (the Central Line one had three!). You make it sound as if there were quite a lot of T/Ops involved for this particular one (i.e. more than four - you, the Wimbleware driver, the Olympia driver and the ELL driver). The way we set the cameras up was for this to be done whilst the train was travelling on its trip in the opposite direction to that on which the recording would be done, so effectively the kit was set up in what was the back cab. How much kit was needed? It sounds as if the cab got pretty cozy with the driver, yourself, the camerman and the cameras in there. In this case the cameraman was under my charge so he wasn't unaccompanied. On the case of the Richmond trip, the driver I relieved just rode back to Earls Court in the car. On the other trips I was in the cab with the T/Op who was driving. Hope that makes sense! It does indeed. I look forward to seeing this on your website

In response to TheOneKea's post above.....
In terms of the number of drivers actually involved it'll probably be easier for me to go into this a bit more once I've actually seen the DVD but - essentially - the producer didn't want the same driver on all the routes as he felt that would like too much of a put up job! But, as I say, once I've seen the final version I'll try to remember to come back to this!
Kit involved - there was quite a bit; the main camera and tripd, the mini cam which was attached usually to the ofside windscreen, a small monitor that was used to check the image from the mini cam, the recorder for the mini cam which was time syncd to the main camera, and of course a couple of bags to hold the equipment. Obviously this is now down to a fairly god routine and though cosy the space wasn't a problem.

Not so far as I recall!! I've received my copy today and though I haven't watched it all it seems to have come out quite well. I noticed a couple of inaccuracies in the commentary - particularly concerning the signalling round Richmond, and I'll be emailing the producer later ;D It was very flattering to have my name announced to the world ......

It was very flattering to have my name announced to the world ...... I presume that the two T/Ops who didn't get a namecheck asked not to be given one?

I was in the cab when the Oly run was done and the driver did give his name; I can't remember if he asked for it not to be used. As for the other - was that the ELL driver? I haven't watched that yet. But as far as the listed credits at the end was concerned i suppose it's fair to say that both Blakey and I did quite a bit more than just drive the trains; maybe that's something to do with it!

The ELL's driver didn't have his name mentioned, he didn't seem very 'into it' anyway.
Loved the DVD, nice sun glasses! ;D
Out of interest, was it all filmed in the summer?

Genuine LU issue shades those are lol!!!
Yes - the Wimbo, Rich -> Upmin and Oly were all done on the same day towards the end of August, though there will eventually be a story to be told; the day wasn't without it's 'challenges'.....
The shots of Blakey driving the C Stock were done at a later date. The driver originally recorded who actually drove the trip couldn't be used as the lead connecting the mini cam to the recorder decided to play up and one of the three primary clours failed - he ended up looking rather seasick!! Sort of the colour of mushy peas!!
Some bits of the tunnel sections were re-recorded too with the low light cam.

Well, can you cover most of the D line without having a problem? It is noticable at times when the time changes from one station to the next that it is filmed at slightly different times (and actually, the 1989 H&C/District video had alot of the D line filmed in a C stock cab!).

I noticed a couple of inaccuracies in the commentary - particularly concerning the signalling round Richmond, and I'll be emailing the producer later ;D Yeah, that was quite a clanger there Not to mention the absence of commentary on Triangle Sidings... Dare I ask how the punter customers managed to bash the VERY VERY rare through line from platform 1 to the e/b District? It was very flattering to have my name announced to the world ...... hehehehe

G'day all, First post on the forums, woohoo! Hi and welcome. Two Australian members. I think that justifies a meet over there with a stop off at the other side of the pond to meet zman! Anyone got any spare cash? I should be getting that DVD sometime soon. Bit short of cash so it may be on December 25th out of all days.............. Dave - do you get royalty payments or some financial reward for doing this? Or is it satisfying enough just to appear?
