Just a heads up, that assuming things go as planned, the refurbished trains will be lifted back into the Drain on the weekends of 5/6th and 12/13th August.

...the refurbished trains will be lifted back into the Drain on the weekends of 5/6th and 12/13th August. And then lifted back out on the next day because they put them in facing the wrong way!

Or they have to wait for a day when it isn't windy. With a crane like they used to get them out, and the broad face a 92 stock would present to the wind, that even a stiff breeze could delay/postpone the lift?

I guess so. Talking of similar matters, just been amusing myself at the Metronot site, and saw the C stocker leaning at a rather alarming angle!

Yes - even a windspeed as little as 10mph gusts on an otherwise still day can stop that sort of lift.

Plus "it's raining cats and dogs" is a lot more acceptable than "it's raining 92-stock!".

August isn't particularly known for gales and hurricanes though! A good thunderstorm or the possibility of lightning can screw things up. And a 500-ton crane with a 20 ton load is no fun when it starts to wobble (at least when you're close to it )

Sorry, blatent thread bump, just to remind everyone that assuming there arn't any last minute delays, the first batch of refurbed W&C trains will be craned in this weekend 5/6th, and the second batch the following weekend 12th/13th.
As I've got other plans this weekend, I'll be at Lower Marsh on the morning of the 12th to take some piccies.

A couple of images here - went on the roof of the carpark next to the station at Donny (always has been a favourite location for spotters) and took a few photos of the 92ts in the Plant. Second one is peeking out the Paint Shop, seems to be covered in polyethene wrapping or something. If they're going back soon, may go and take a few more pics before they go.

Thanks for the shots! Reminds me of the new tube cars that came from Spain on the Bilbao-Portsmouth ferry that could be seen on low-loader trailers from the M275 when they were parked up for customs clearance, etc.

Good vantage point there Mr Cakes. I'm trying to think of some elevated publically accessible buildings where I can get aerial photos of the tube. I can only think of Hammersmith King St Mall car park.

It looks to me like there might be a slight livery variation on the trains when they return. In the first picture, the cab door of the unit closest to the camera has got the blue skirt. The cab doors on the other unit in the first picture and the one in the second picture it looks like the cab door is all white.

The second photo can probarbly be regarded as more canonical, as it's come out the paintshop in plastic sheeting. Unless it's going in to be finished off?

I don't know much anything about this, but it seems odd to me to do all the skirts except that on the driver's door at one time and do the odd one later. I suppose that if the driver's doors are a very different width to a passenger door (I've no idea if they are) it might be easier so the vinyls don't get confused?

Does anybody know what time the lift in will be happening this weekend? Only I plan to be around, though I just don't know what time slot I've got to work to.

The cars were individually craned out at intervals of approx 1-2hours. So I would assume that the craning in process will be just as elongated. The metronet staff there were pretty good at letting people know what was going on.

a picture of a new car being lifted in. From the same site as the picture of the 2009ts being tested. it looses the whole W&C identity of the blue trains. Is the B for the bank end i assume. How much does it matter what way round the train goes in?

Quite a lot. It is rather difficult to turn one around once it goes in, and putting both cabs facing the wrong way would be a little embarassing, don't you think?

All of my photos of the lift in today (or yesterday) can be found here, but I'll show you my favourite ones from the day. I didn't actually get there on time, though somebody onsite informed me that they'd only started work from 0600. I'd decided to stick around on the Lower Marsh instead of trying to find some other higher ground on which to stand on, though some older men, obviously into the trains, weren't very nice to me, and several of them tried to indirectly shoo me away from their turf. The only reason I'd been able to stand my ground was because I was probably the only person with a professional lens that happend to be around. One of the other guys that was filming assumed I was from the press. Me being a curious creature, I had to take pictures of the underbelly of the beast, as I've (obviously) never seen it before. Lots of people came to look. There happened to be a lot of children in the nearby park too, which was very fun for them as a lot of their mums and dads did not know that this would be happening, so it made for an interesting day out. I might go back tomorrow, sleep deprivation permitting, though otherwise I'll be down again next week, probably from some higher ground, maybe even on the London Eye.

I stayed online hoping that someone might post some photos of the lift. Rob popped his pic up first, followed by Anne's collection. Super pictures and great composition, as always. Thank you.

Nice pictures V3.1. I think you chose the best spot for photos of the lift. I took my lift out photos from the same spot.
