Any news on the ELL rebuild progress to date, esp on the 'original' section? I mean track removal/relaying, engineers trains etc.

I saw this busy lifting the conductor rail a couple of weeks ago near the south end. There's a picture in last week's Railway Herald (6MB PDF) of the diesel locomotives that are being used on works trains.

On the Silver trains farewell tour I saw track had been/was being lifted at Whitechapel.

I've seen some signs of activity on the ELL at New Cross (which I pass by on the train up from Kent). I will try to remember to have a better look tomorrow on the way to work.

I had a look at New Cross as I went past today.
The inevitable temporary blue fencing has sprung up where the ELL runs alongside the mainline. Some new concrete sleepers are stacked up ready for use, but the old track looks intact, the home signal is still there (no aspect!) and so is the speed restriction board next to it.

I have noticed the ELL platforms at Whitechapel are now in darkness, with all the platform lighting switched off.

Anyone know if the new bridge across Shoreditch High Street is being installed this weekend as planned?

There was an engineers train in the East London platform at Whitechapel on Thursday. As there are currently no connections to the line, this is presumably locked in. I couldn't see what the motive power was.

I wonder if there are any pictures of the line now, I think I might go down there and see what the stations look like

Anyone know if the new bridge across Shoreditch High Street is being installed this weekend as planned? I just walked past it ten minutes ago. Although the bridge is now better visible than before, they've removed some things that blocked the sight, it hasn't moved a millimetre. The complete lack of activity gives the impression it is not going to happen today or tonight. Maybe tomorrow? There is a lot of activity a little closer to Liverpool Street station. The bridge that takes Bishopsgate over the heavy rail lines out of the station is under construction and all lines out of the station are replaced by bus services.

The Shoreditch High Street bridge is going up next weekend - the hoarding and press adverts all have that date.
I can't imagine what they're doing with the GE19 bridge (the one over the Liverpool Street lines) this weekend. It isn't being moved for another six weeks.

Ladies/Gents I've uploaded photos that I took of the bridge and crane that is currently lifting it across Shoreditch High Street yesterday... See my Very Latest Photography section on my Fotopic site cjw.fpic.co.uk/Regards Christopher

You need to download Flip4Mac, which is the official Windows Media client for Macs.
It was all over very early yesterday morning.

Are there any plans, however speculative, to create an interchange with the Central Line? U Thant's map shows Shoreditch High Street station will be directly above the Central Line tunnels.

Are there any plans, however speculative, to create an interchange with the Central Line? U Thant's map shows Shoreditch High Street station will be directly above the Central Line tunnels. This same question pops up a lot regarding this new line/station and usually someone gives the same answer. At present the eastern Central Line is in desperate need of station closures, not openings. Until Crossrail 1 relieves the eastern part of the Central it couldn't possibly cope with even more stations on this stretch. If I had to guess it runs at about 130% of maximum capacity. Try Bethnal Green in the mornings, three hundred people waiting to board, less then ten manage to get on per train. My longest wait has been 25 minutes and 11 trains before I could get on. The problem is, it is quicker to walk to Liverpool Street but you never know how long it will take before the train where you can squeeze in comes. It might be the next one... My latest trick is to get a west bound train to Stratford, change there for an east bound train and pass through my own station again but now on a train, instead of queued up on a crowded platform, but don't tell anyone

At New Cross Gate the bridge that will take it over the Brighton Main Line is ready to be moved into place by the look of it. Quite an impressive structure from what I could see driving past, looks a bit like Battledown Flyover (nr Basingstoke) or Holgate Bridge (York) it is that kind of structure. Plenty of activity, and also of note, a lot of clearing south of NXG station as well, looks as though the line will run parallel to the Down Slow for a short distance before converging.

The bridge has been assembled alongside the line, but it's not due to be moved into place for another month.

Apologies for just resurrecting this old thread, but I travelled through Whitechapel today eastbound on the green line, and noticed that the track has been raised from the old ELL platforms.
There is new ballast in place and JCB's seemed to be taking pride of place...

I heard that some of the Knights Rail Shunters have been sent away for repair and that a ex-BR Class 73 loco has recently arrived at New Cross to assist with the works

Just noticed that some progress has been made on the funding for the grade separated junction required for phase 2 (london connections blog).
Also just realised that once the new line opens the NX branch will be getting 4tph which is slightly less than the previous ~5.5tph.
