Well, I'm not getting to London 'til gone 4pm, so I hope there's nothing special planned for earlier in the afternoon!

The last train is today. As for the times, I've no idea.. They've already taken the timetables etc, off of the TfL site

I have found on the Journey Planner at the TfL Site:
Whitechapel: 0:47 towards New Cross Gate arrival at 0:59 0:59 towards New Cross arrival at 1:11
New Cross: 0:32 towards Whitechapel arrival at 0:43 New Cross Gate: 0:40 towards Whitechapel arrival at 0:51
and a Mysterious Train from Surrey Quays at 01:12 towards New Cross Gate arrival at 01:15
greetings

I did the ELL for the final time this afternoon, leaving at 4pm - there were only A's doing the rounds... The SA's were very very jumpy with constant announcements being made about NOT using flash photography, particularly at Wapping (whoever was making the announcements was practically screaming over the tannoy). At Surrey Quays a female SA started shouting and running up the platform towards me announcing that I had been using my flash - my flash had been switched off AND I was using a 1.8 aperture lens. UTTER STUPIDITY In defense I did witness several spotters taking photos using flash (automatic/low end digital cameras) - what sort of imbecile thinks that the rules are not there for a reason or that the rules do not apply to them - announcements asking NOT to take photos using flash mean exactly that! I am shocked at the utter stupidity of TRAINSPOTTERS.... and I am using the term trainspotters in a derogatory manner.... I hope that all members of this forum are instead enthusiasts who understand and stick to the rules! It wouldn't surprise me that ultimate reason that any special stock was not available today (38ts or 3-car D) was due to the behaviour of spotters last Sunday - e.g. at Whitechapel walking past the platform barriers (in not small part as a direct result of the actions by the SA's there that day IMO) as well as using flash photography. Why should LU/TfL run special days when TRAINSPOTTERS ignore the rules...

I have nothing to add to Chris' comments but I share his opinions.

I overheard some mention on the 38TS tour that the original plan was to run the 1938 stock in public service for the day. However, the unions refused to play ball and obviously LU was unable to persuade them.

I too ended up at Whitechapel around 4pm, to be greeted with a tannoy aired at a few congregating at the platform end, THIS IS YOUR FINAL WARNING. DO NOT USE FLASH OR YOU WILL BE EVICTED FROM THE STATION...
No-one that I spotted in the final half hour I was there, used a flash afterwards!
Went to Rotherhithe, took some photos of the station, made two trips to each New X and New X Gate... lots of people about at both...
Took around 80-100 photos. lots of quite good shots. Those railings at Whitechapel made ideal leaning posts!
And I did NOT use the flash.

Just got in the door from being on the last train, have to say that at the end staff all appeared jovial towards photographers and travellers.

Just got in myself too, had to get a N171, a 341 and an N19 to get home.
Unit 5066 done the honours for the final service (01:10 Canada Water - New Cross Gate), which is the same unit that formed the last public service from Shoreditch. We were told to change at Surrey Quays for the last train despite an empty unit being in platform 4 at Canada Water, but all of a sudden the doors opened on that unit and everyone made a dash for it!

However, the unions refused to play ball and obviously LU was unable to persuade them. Not quite - tube stock isn't allowed to call at Canada Water due to the platform heights. I'm also not 100% sure if the test crews needed for it are licenced for dealing with some of the PTI issues. Certainly I've seen test crew take a train over that was being taken out of service (and then used for testing) and make sure the normal T/Op tipped the train out.

I had 2 hours to spare between booking off and the Earls Court Xmas party, so I wandered down there. Managed to get a ride in the cab (as I was in uniform) from Canada Water to Whitechapel, and there were a lot of camera flashes at Wapping! And that was only around 6pm.

The 0059 ex Whitechapel was Train 172.
I would guess (having given away every copy of the Timetable I had) the 0047 ex Whitechapel would have been Train 175.

They would be 175 and 172 on their previous trips
Train 175 0032 ex New Cross arrive Whitechapel 0043 to form 0047.
Train 172 0040 ex New Cross Gate arrive Whitechapel 0051 to form 0059.

is this the same Number?
New Cross 0:32 are Train 157 and New Cross Gate 0:40 are Train 172
but who are Trains 171, 173 and 174?
And a another Question: the last Train (176) ex Canada Water (1:10) comes the Train from nowhere?
Thanks and Greetings
Dennis

Yes, they are the same train. 176 started at 1435 and it's previous trip was an empty stock move.
171, 173, and 174 had all been taken out of seevice by 0032.

First post here on District Dave's illustrious internet forum!
Just wondering whether anyone knows when the stock will be / was moved back to Neasden depot from New Cross depot - might that have happened / be happening today?
Just as well - for all you photographers - that the last day wasn't today, as a blanket of fog covers London at the mo.

They were trying to get as many as possible back today, with the rest to follow tomorrow. They'll have too as LUL move out on the 26th

Well they can run them as 3X8 car trains as I think there are 6 sets used. I've seen them run as 8 cars to Harrow and then reverse back to Neasden before.
