Well said... indeed thank you to ALL those who assisted or in any way helped to ensure that today's successful 38ts tour took place.....
There are times when I am truly embarrassed that I have an interest in railways, particularly when muppets use flash photography when in low light conditions underground.... it really does give credence to using the term 'trainspotters' in a derogatory manner.... no wonder those with a railway interest are often looked upon as being intellectually sub-normal!

I had a good day, first of all taking photos of it and then, thanks to MRFS, getting a trip on it (Whitechapel - New Cross - Ealing Broadway).

Petty we could not make it by I am aiming to take the boys on a trip up to Town on the last day to cover the ELL. I have only 'done' the St Marys Curve once, on the D Stock Metroliner tour of 1980. Then just now I realised that I have I think been on just about every 'line' on the Underground except up to Shoreditch! That of course includes Ongar, plus non-ax such the Croxley Tip branch and Highgate Wood sidings, Uxbridge sidings, and Watford sidings. However I have yet to 'do' Acton Works, Neasden Depot, Lillie Bridge, and a few depots. Perhaps in due course the 38TS could be used to cover some depots, Wembley flyunder, and other non-passenger lines subject to all the paperwork?

Sadly I missed the tour today, due to fatigue I did have a ticket, but dont mind paying the £15 as it will help pay for its upkeep.
I know the 60ts is currently defective, but is it technically possible for it to couple up to the 38ts and for the two units to operate together?

A 1960 and a 1938 can couple physically, but the circuitry is different, so presspahn shields are required to insulate one unit from the other.

That said, I think the SA/s were on a small bit of a "power trip" then, and what the hell was a Policeman doing there!!? Well, the SA concerned just gave up after a while. Must admit that I was a bit surprised to see one Met Pleecman, 2 BTP Pleecemen and 3 PCSOs - however the one PCSO working the gateline was more than happy to let me and angelislington out for a 'quickie'....

Glad we could be of service to you and antharro. (we surrendered tickets for the non-used return leg). I was very surprised when a (summer) customer of mine on the railtour said to me 'You're a long way from Abergynolwyn'

Thanks Inspectorsands, Chris W and Juliang, some great photos, looking forward to more (I hope). The 38ts still looks good for its age. Brings back memories of driving them on the Bakerloo way back when

The bits I saw were great! Is there a chance the special train next week could be a unrefurbed double ender D stock train- 7530-17530-7531 per chance?

I know the 60ts is currently defective, but is it technically possible for it to couple up to the 38ts and for the two units to operate together? Basically No. As previously posted the circuitry is different, which means presphans are needed, these keep the 2 units electrically isolated, so no through curcuits (pilot light, coms, control etc).

I guess the same applies in the case of coupling the 38 to a 59/62 set?

The same applies for coupling units of any different stocks together, with the exception of stocks intended to be coupled together, C69 to C77, A60 to A62 and 1956 to 1959. Some same stocks are or were incapatable a 1972 mk1 unit couldn't originally couple directly to a Mk2 and if it was possible a unit of W&C 1992 could now not couple with a Central 1992, and a non refurbed D stock unit can't couple directly with a refurb unit.

However, comunication circuits are (or were) available through some combinations. I think the C and D stock (long ago in the early eighties at least) had through communication circuits available. Doubt its the case now though.

Doubt its the case now though. The C stock has vastly changed since then with refurbishment in the 1990s with the addition of passenger alarm curcuits and cab intruder alarm curcuits.

does any one have any pictures coming in to Earls court, has any one got any more private pics that they would like to share or pass on? Earls Court was crammed full of scaffolding on the day (& probably still is - I haven't been through it since) - hence why many would have headed either west to places like Stamford Brook (as I did) or waited for the 38ts to arrive on the ELL. rpriest - have a look on earlier pages of this thread for some links to extensive photography of the day (assuming you haven't already done so )
