This has appeared on a bus related enthusiast group : -
Agreement was given yesterday (23/11) to operate a tour with the LT Museum's Heritage 1938 tube stock on Sunday 16 December. The price is £15 - £20 (to be confirmed The itinerary is Ealing Broadway - New Cross - New Cross Gate - Whitechapel (30 minute break) - New Cross - New Cross Gate - Ealing Broadway. This gives a rare opportunity to travel on St. Mary's Curve. I suppose it may be the last chance as the line closes a week later and reopens later as part of London Overground, presumably with no need for the connection with LUL! Details should be posted on the LT Museum website within the next few days. Please feel free to circulate this information.
As soon as anyone know's how we can book please let us know !
(Admins : I couldn't decide best location for this thread, so feel free to move if apt)

What benefit would keeping St Mary's Curve hold... I don't see it being much use for stock transfers... (e.g. S Stock delivery)

aspect The ELL line section seems as good as any to me.... that is no doubt the whole reason for the 38ts outing in the first place.... Unless any fellow Admin want to get his tape measure out and compare the length of the DL that the tour will need to travel on in comparison to the ELL ;D ;D ;D Put it this way... if I can't get a seat... I WILL definitely be taking photos at one point or another... that's one event I CANNOT miss

No idea why the curve would be kept? But thats what I heard! The only reason I can think of is for maintance? Battery locos may need to do work on the line at some point. I believe this happened recently on the Great Northern & City when track work was done. Will the ELL be owned by LU still-if that is the case the connection will need to be kept!

I'm sure I've read somewhere on this forum that plan is/was to keep St Mary's Curve but without any form of electrification.

That's where I must have seen it too Chris. They should keep the duty rails for an emergency, not that the Electrostars could fit round the curve?

if an A-stock will fit then there will be no problem with width. I don't know if the two stocks differ in length though.

I think the 378s are a little longer than the D stock but I'm no expert! I read somewhere that only 1 train can use the curve at a time. Width certainly no problem indeed!

The curve and junctions will be kept but the track between the two junctions will be single and it will be the dividing point between the 3-rail ELL traction current system and the 4-rail LU system. The main reason for keeping the curve is engineering train access. It would not be sensible for LU, as the infrastructure owner, not to have access from the rest of the system.

tghe only restrictions on st marys curve is that you can not have 2 trains (especially A stock) to pass at the same time this is also be absorbed into the signalling at whitechapel
on a another note im surprised they are going to let a passengers ride on that section last time i was there approx 6 months ago the track was in a very poor state it was more like the state of a depot

Ooops.... forgot the track was staying in TfL hands. Also guess that as most the NR engineering stock is Diesel so not so great to be hired in. It all makes a lot of sense now!

Same here - although I should be living in London I don't know yet whether I'll be in the capital, Swansea or possibly even Rugby that day!

Bleep!! I'm working. Problem is that I did have a rest day, but I swapped it so I could do something one evening during the week. Life can be sooo cruel sometimes.

Doesn't that also mean that you've also given away the rest day that you need to be able to fully appreciate this forum's Christmas meet? Silly boy!

I have just booked a seat!
It is leaving Ealing Bdy at 1000, returning at 1530. You can pay by cheque/card, and I would guess from the LTM desk at Covent Garden.
Just to add, staff dont get a discount.....yes I did have the cheek to ask! ;D

I've phoned up too..... 150 seats available with 15 booked so far given that tickets have only been on sale since this morning mmmmmm decision time - I'll be having a very late night on the Saturday (Xmas Ball) so to be at EB prior to 10am might be pushing it.... plus.... the train WILL NOT be stopping anywhere to take anyone else on board.... in other words if I miss it (need I say more). Also thinking about it by being on board I won't be able to hover along the route (DL or ELL stations) to take photos .. I'm edging towards not being on the tour, but to get to Tower Hill etc for 10:30 ish and lie in wait....

I've just booked a seat. Phoning the museum and paying with a credit card is so much easier than sending a cheque and praying that royal mail don't lose it.
The long range engineering work forecast indicates more misguided bus engineering works that day, making it impossible to travel between Cambridge and London by either route. As I expect to attend the meet the day before it's probably going to be safer to spend the night in London.

....hm, does anyone know roughly what time it would finish? I'm probably being dense and not seeing it. (Blame it on dead earlies.)
