....hm, does anyone know roughly what time it would finish? I'm probably being dense and not seeing it. (Blame it on dead earlies.) Four posts up it says finishing at 1530. Seems a long time to get to New Cross (Gate) and back! Maybe someone has the full schedule, which would help photographers?

The LT Museum told me 1530, yes it does seem long, there will be a 30 minute break at Whitechapel. Where will the unit go? I suppose the ELL can reverse in a single platform given the 7 minute frequency.

Only the one platform (5 I think) is used at Whitechappel normally afaik, so perhaps the unit will be running to and from the other platform.

Yes I think that is the case, so platform 6 can be used!

Have taken the risk and booked mine without confirming the day off, so if I can't go there may be a spare one going. There are 45 tickets left according to the American gentlemen on the other end of the phone. ;D

Bleep!! I'm working. Problem is that I did have a rest day, but I swapped it so I could do something one evening during the week. Life can be sooo cruel sometimes. Doesn't that also mean that you've also given away the rest day that you need to be able to fully appreciate this forum's Christmas meet? Silly boy! Yeah was stuck between a rock and a hard place. That's the way the cookie crumbles sometimes. I can still have my medicinal 7 units though.

Unfortunately I will not be able to join you on this as the tickets have all now been sold. Unless anyone has a spare ticket...

Chris, I can't promise anything but I AM scheduled to work that day, and haven't yet been confirmed to have the day off, so IF I don't, my ticket is all yours. Sorry to hear that though.

For those who can't get a ticket... or even two... and who might like/prefer to record the event in the photographic sense, it is my intention to lurk along the DL and ELL for the duration of the event... perhaps meeting a Earls Court soon after 10am in the morning (might manage to catch some photos of the last of the unrefurbed D78's as well as the 38ts on its way though and then follow on behind... Just a suggestion for those who are feeling left out

I'm afraid to say I have been given the day off Chris M. Very sorry you haven't got one and I hope you are able to find one, and everybody else who wants one.

Have got home from witnessing the 38ts (as opposed to being on it) with 543 images token today ... that'll keep me out of my fiancee's hair for an hour or two One silly incident I witnessed was as a result of the 38ts pulling into Whitechapel (platform 6) while an A stock was still in platform 5 (therefore no-one on platform 5 was able to get a photo). Therefore some (including myself) wondered down to the south end of the platform once the A had left to get a full decent shot (the platforms being slightly staggered)... the SA on the platform then announces... (not once but repeatedly): - "no flash photography".... fair enough (no-one should be in any case)
- "can photographers move down to the far end of the platform".... meaning IMO... go somewhere else where you cannot take a proper photograph (i.e. from a location where you cannot get an image of the front and along the full length of the 4-cars)
I could understand if a railtour were taking place during peak hours (mon-fri) or even of a busy Saturday (access to crowds), but this was a Sunday and the few passengers who were there were able to negotiate their way along the platforms and up the stairwell... The end result.... some photographers went past the barriers at the north end of the platform resulting of screams of "you are trespassing" over the tannoy. Common sense applies here - I do not for one moment sanction, excuse or agree with those who went past the barriers to take photos, however when photographers are prevented from taking images that IMO were perfectly legal (no flash/no tripod/within public areas), I cannot agree with such 'jobsworth' announcements... common sense has to apply and NOT idiocy on both sides!

I was quite shocked and appalled that the people who should know better, still used flash and tripods. Its quite embarrassing when your with someone who has only just become interested in the railways and you're telling them different... That said, I think the SA/s were on a small bit of a "power trip" then, and what the hell was a Policeman doing there!!?

Well, just got back from it, I was damn lucky to get on it as some guy's friend couldn't make it due to being ill, so I bought his spare ticket from him. First and final trip round the St. Mary's Curve too!

As a matter of interest the announcements about trespassing at Whitechapel were broadcast at Surrey Quays.

First of all, I would like to say to the organisers of the tour, thank you for organising the railtour It was well worth the £15! Second of all, I couldn't stop laughing at the people on the platforms along the District line finding out that the Whitechapel/Ealing Broadway train was a 1938 Tube Stock which wasn't stopping Third of all, i've noticed the 38TS managed to make up for the delay and pass Aldgate East station a couple of mins earlier! Fourth of all, Thanks God for the Train Heating Fifth of all, why were people using flash even though they know that flash photography is not permitted on the railways, i admit that i did use a tripod of a smaller size looks like i said far too much ;D
