Not the best news all round IMHO - I gather during the Xmas shutdown 2 of the platforms were blitzed big time - God knowns how they got into a secure station and were able to "work" for what looks like several hours.
Presume that a quick coat of while emulsion to cover the "mural" over and a specialist cleaning gang in a station close down period in order.....hope the original tile work isn't wrecked for good as the old light blue tiles always remind me of an Edwardian dairy (not that I am that old)

Regrettably in underground (Sorry) tagging terms this will count as a huge success and personal image booster. To get in unhindered to an 'impregnable' location will do the guys' street-cred a power of good.
Fortunately for once the press do not seem to have taken/published a phot, thank goodness.
BUT.....one for the security guys to worry about. Supposing it was a time-delay bomb, not a canful of paint they were depositing. From that aspect we ought to be very thankful I s'pose. In a way they've done the punters a favour.

Haven't seen it, but from what I've been told it was the quite bad. In passage ways as well.

No, i think the tiles survive the Cleaning-action -> look to the German Capital Berlin - the Subway is permanently covered with "Murals" from "Assoziales Gesindel" (Stupid Teenagers from the Berlin Suburb) and this is the Problem. Please make NOT Pictures of the Murals! that is, which they want! what a pity - when a Engineers Train are at the same Time passing the Station, or fall on the life rail!!! greetings Dennis |

Is there any chance of CCTV being of any use? Again from what I'm told, BTP are taking the incident very seriously. So CCTV MAY be of use (of course with hoodies etc!), plus of course the route these mis-fits took to get to Camden. i.e. did they break into the station or walk down the pipe. |

i.e. did they break into the station or walk down the pipe. I'd have thought that the former was more likely as isn't it quite a long walk to Camden from any other non-station access point? If they walked past another station I'd have thought at the very least they would have 'tagged' it? |

walking down the pipe is very unlikely because of the distances from the openings and how difficult it would be to go through station suicide pits. I would be scared out of my mind though! imagine if there was a train  are stations illuminated during a closure? or is it total darkness. |

Earls Court station was 'hit' too - West end of the Eastbound District platform. My DMT told me when I booked on that the offender has been arrested and CCTV evidence does exist. I'm told also that the trackside areas at West Kensington & Barons Court were 'hit' too (I never went that way yesterday) - though I don't know it it was the same person. It seems the trains themselves came off quite lightly this year - perhaps the regime of cleaning trains at the first opportunity is having an effect? Ultimately though, the punishment is bound to be light - after all, it's hardly a major crime in the grand scheme of things. Kinda sticks in the throat really, doesn't it? |

Surely the thing that must be playing on BTP's mind is - 'is there a 3rd entrance method we've missed up till now?' Something like an access point for services direct from street level, or possibly the drainage system, or an air-conditioning duct, which gets them into the station without going through the locked gates. I think that last week's rant thread about security not being taken seriously enough is more valid now than when it was written. |

Thsi goes back to a thread we had a while ago about punishments. Without wanting to rehash it all again, in my view teh punishement should reflect and be apropriate to the crime. For criminal damage (including things like graffiti) the punishment should be that the perpatrators should be liable for 100% of the cost of repairing and/or cleaning. The perpatrators giving their time, unpaid, as part payment at standard rate should be part of this where apropriate (if they were being employed to do the job, then the value of their time is taken at that rate - i.e. if they would be employed at the minium wage, each hour they work would reduce the debt by £5.35). |

Oh how sad (and almost predictable these days) that even the Beeb has seen fit to publicise their 'work' by showing pics of it! Don't the press EVER learn (or listen to impassioned pleas)? Personally if I was LU top-brass I would seriously consider closing the affected platforms to the public until the cleanup has been finished. Apart from enabling it to be done a lot quicker, the public outcry might just result in attitudes changing and the public reporting what they know a bit quicker. I could argue a convincing case for shutting those platforms completely on Health and Safety grounds (but won't here for obvious reasons). |

No, basically they don't...
Maybe this would be appropriate at a minor station like (say) Caledonian Road or Russell Square - but I think that the consequences of doing it at Camden would be a) the Northern Line would be paralysed, b) LU management would be lynched by angry commuters.
Also, I very much doubt that many people with "things that they know to report" about the case will be among the farepaying commuters who'd be inconvenienced by such a shutdown.
This also seems bizarre. I understand you don't want to go into too much detail, but I don't even have a clue where you're starting from? Because of spray paint fumes? Because passenger safety features (emergency exit signs, help points) may be obscured/disabled? Because we don't know how the vandals got in and therefore they could also have damaged railway infrastructure?

It is, there is access to the track/lift landings etc from the rear of the buiding, which is alarmed and sends this to Kentish Town. Obviously Kentish was unstaffed Christmas day, and so action could not have been taken. They obviously walked along the track to Camden.

Christmas Day vandalism is a major problem that has blighted the southern end of the Northern for years, so much so that selected stations are staffed on Christmas Day as a result.
This year saw engineering work, so no attacks.
The BTP are very good at this sort of crime and with the lack of public transport on Christmas Day, the criminals must either have driven or live local.
At least the idiots that vandalised Camden Town, have something to fill their empty lives with now. I wonder why their families didn't miss them on Christmas Day? Speaks volumes IMHO.

The exact route that would need to be taken is possibly one for the quiz section. Nice to see journalists checking their facts. |

Aber, leider hat die Polizei keine Ahnung der die Deppen sind, so können sie nichts machen! Todesstrafe ist einer guten Idee für diese Leute.... Denken Sie auch? Don't assume the police don't know who has done this. Graffiti tags are very personal to the user and the BTP will know who done it. The 'trouble' can be getting the proof for a successful conviction.

I can only hope that when these (bleeping) (bleepards) are caught that they are publically humiliated for their activities. This is absolutely disgusting and I gope that the CCTV is able to provide the evidence to catch these (bleepards).

Passed through Camden this morning, all grafffiti has been removed, bar the odd small bit here and there. There was a strong smell of cleaning fumes in the air. All four platforms were "attacked" as well as the bottom of the escalators on Christmas day.

Totally agree with everyone perhaps public flogging should be brought back? The alarms for the disused are repeated elsewhere perhaps they did'nt work or someone was doing other things. I rekon they walked in from whereever, yes the police keep very good records of tags.
