At least tiling is easy to clean - but what about enamel? Hopefully any heritage signage still in situ at the station has escaped permanent damage.

Yeah, but surely that would be offset by the cash saved NOT clearing up this mess, which seems to happen every shutdown...
It's because 'they' know the system is closed that it occurs... perhaps saying that something like on the southern end of the northern needs to occur, just general tidying up of all stations...
To work Xmas day... Hmm... £200, cash in hand?

I think it would be money well spent in paying a supervisor, to patrol the stations on their particular patch. On certain groups [Camden consists of 7 stations] 2 would be advisable.

It always makes me wonder how the vandals find out where the "emergency" access points to the deep level tube lines are. They don't tell staff (at least not me), colleagues i've spoken to over the years tell me that Brixton sdgs, Elephant sdgs, Kings Cross disused, anaccess point to the Northern not far from the Oval which I shant name for obvious reasons and various other places get clobbered most years. Funnily enough, i went into Hammersmith yard to bring out a train the other month and noticed the train on 5 top next to the shunters room had been covered with paint (apparently in situ during the night). It never fails to amaze me how slack LT's security is on things like this. I don't think we should be running on Christmas day (I for one won't be volunteering!), but something i've said for years is that it must be cheaper for LT to employ security guards on silly money to patrol regularly hit depots, sidings and access points than it would be to pay for the inevitable cleanup every year. I've also noticed that the dangerously high walls overlooking Farringdon sidings have been half done since Christmas. Looks like the culprits left in a hurry from there. God only knows how they get into Farringdon when the stations are all locked up! The graffiti at Moorgate and Tower Hill / St Marys disused also makes me wonder how the hell they got in there...

The "standard" rate is double time & day off. Tubelines offered triple time & day off due to engineering work. However the unions wanted LU to up their standard rate to match the Tubelines enhanced rate, which they wouldn't, so the triple rate was withdrawn. I could mention the union rep who complained by name, but I won't. Needless to say there's a logic there somewhere. BTW they still had many takers for the double rate.

Been offline for a few days as its been taking me 3 hours each way to get to/from work so here's a bit of late, but good news about the gang who graffed Earls court/ West Ken and places inbetween up to the Tower. On the 27th, one of these pillocks (want to use something far far stronger like a meat cleaver to his pinky) started taking pictures of his "artwork" outside the DMT's office at Earls Court. The BTP were called as they were already on the station and promptly nicked him. He was also carrying the tools of his trade. SOCO were round that afternoon to take the relevant evidence and the Earls Court site was cleaned for start of traffic next morning. Hopefully that will count as sufficient evidence.

Earl's Court was indeed cleaned up very quickly.
Other's hit were Tower Hill westbound platform trackside, just loads of tags ...how was this accessed ? No signs of any attack on the approaches ! Tunnels between South Ken and Gloucester Road
Also, masses of tags and large stuff over all the brick arches between Hammersmith and Ravenscourt Park.
The eastbound at Gunnersbury trackside was also hit with tags.
I also noticed yesterday that tags had been cut / scratched into all the car sides of a Class 357 C2C ...presumably necessitating replacement of the vinyl coverings if that's to be repaired ....not that LUL do much of a job at sorting the front's of the vandalized C stock ...which look appalling !
as per the rest of you ....punishments are wholey inadequate !

They must have been there a long time ...and given the bragging of the tags, this appears to have taken place over the 06 - 07 New Year Boundary ...when the station was open !! (Agreements with the unions requires unmanned stations at the east end of the District to be closed except when the supervisor is on his scheduled meal break, hmmmm). I came through, passenger, on the last Eastbound last night by which time a very large gang of workmen were cleaning up the westbound platform and an even larger gang or workmen were about to start on the eastbound. So the vandals work will hopefully be on public display no more !! But a lot of expense, the cost of all those workers

passed through yesterday.. there is still some vestiges of the illegally applied paint... just small bits in odd areas... How the heck did they manage to spray silver and black paint about 12ft off platform level?

I changed at Camden Town on Boxing day. I can only imagine that they must have had ladders for some of the places they painted. Has it actually been announced how they got in yet?

There are various theories, not one has proved conclusive yet. I worked at Camden until last year, so I will ask round.
