Any moves for the train planned? Trying to get a vid of it We won't be told here - I think its easy enough to guess that the train movements will be planned in advance but its a rule here at DD that the times are not disclosed. One reason being because they don't want loads of people with cameras etc lining the route at a time when extra staff are not on hand to supervise the people. I have, in the past, attended special trains running on the LU system but the timetable information has always come from elsewhere. Another issue is that special non-passenger workings don't always run to time - sometimes they are early, other times late. A few minutes out is a 'nothing' because if one has prepared for that eventuality then they will have arrived early / come prepared. But there have been times when the special train is hours 'different' to the timetable, and as ordinary people do not have access to the LU train movements info we end up wasting a lot of time. An added complication arises for people using Oystercards in 'pay as you go' mode - journey time limits can cause the ticketing system to think that you had not touched in or out and charge you a maximum fare. Prepaid Travelcards on Oyster solve this but in London these are not available in one-day format (you must buy a 'weekly'). Paper Travelcards also solve this but they are expensive - priced to encourage people to use Oyster PAYG instead.

Thanks for the update. It sounds as though phase 1 is quite minimal then. I was expecting the lighting to be in scope; while not essential, I do think they'd look a lot better in flush (as per the LED trials a number of years back on one Central line unit) rather than the ugly 'trough' housing currently deployed.
Daft question, but what are 'direction of travel line maps'?

I'd imagine having the maps facing the direction that the train is travelling - for example all the maps would have Epping at the eastern end of the train and West Ruislip at the western end.

Daft question, but what are 'direction of travel line maps'? Separate left and right hand versions, such that the (eg) easterly end of the diagram is always at the eastern of the train. System doesn't work on lines with loops in alas.

Then you would swap the maps over. It is entirely possible for trains to be turned during the day - a couple are booked to turn, and moves can also happen adhoc. You’re not seriously advocating having travelling staff to change maps are you? (Which would also be a ridiculous waste of money whatever way you looked at it.)

The Victoria line used to have handed maps. Lost with new trains.
Works with broadly a north/south alignment.
When I was responsible for getting them produced I tried them on D stock and they weren't liked. Difficult to get the alignment of Wimbledon, Richmond and Ealing Broadway.

Apart from lines where trains are turned, I think it was thought confusing on trains with a branch, Bakerloo and Piccadilly at the time, to have the branches at the left on one side, and at the right on the other. When the Jubilee opened, leaving the Bakerloo also as a simple line, handed diagrams were fitted to both. I felt that the Waterloo & City did not feature such handed diagrams due to the cost of a small print run for five four-car trains. It got by without any line diagrams until LU took over in 1994.

The original Victoria line diagrams were printed on melamine and held in frames on the pull down ventilators. This was fine until the Brixton extension. It was a lot easier to manage and maintain the handed diagrams when they were paper and installed by craftsmen painters in the depots using wallpaper paste. Then we entered the age of graffiti and stickers and new approach was needed. It was a very long time ago. I was met at the gates of Ealing Common depot by the Lead Craftsman Painter. He said follow me and don't touch any rail. We crossed several tracks and climbed into a District line train. It was a long way up. Depot training came much later. I was shown how they applied the diagrams (some were pasted on top of each other) and we agreed we would produce a batch with a polyester film on the front. This was being used on posters at the time as it didn't give off poisonous fumes if set alight. It should have been a wipe clean surface. The diagrams were installed and it was hoped the problem had been solved. Unfortunately, the wallpaper paste meant that mould appeared in the paper behind the polyester. Back to the drawing board. We had to find a suitable adhesive to go on the back of the diagram. This worked well and things were fine as long as there were painters in the depots (and who travelled to others when necessary). In due course maintenance was privatised and handed maps started to disappear as it was too complicated.

The Museum have a few photos of the Picc train interiors in mid-1930s showing handed diagrams back then, not just on the experimental trains but also the standard stock see here Won't see that again with the T4 loop turning trains! But back to the W&C, a two station line, what purpose do they serve when you can't board a train going the wrong direction? Any departing train you board will arrive at the other station!

I remember reading something last year that explained how the project would work and it said that each train would take 40 days to be refurbished in the workshop. So they’ve got 40 days + however many days it takes the rest of the units to arrive at the workshop to make up a full train with the present unit until the first train is ready.
There might be an extra stage to it, likely testing of the internal features that will be fitted in Acton Works such as the CCTV and the new PIS.
