Just to clarify, the only crossover to go will be the one between platforms 2/3 (points 17/19) ? That's correct, other points in the immediate area (12A/B 30A/B) will be smoothed to ease curvature.

I finally was on a train that arrived into platform 1 at Earls Court from Wimbledon this morning (train 124), after several announcements of congestion ahead. I was really surprised when I looked out of the window to the left of the train and saw the wall rather than a platform! Disappointingly my wife tells me she has similarly arrived into P1 a few weeks back. Perhaps it is now a move that is now becoming used more when problems with the service are occurring?

Train 755 (D Stock tour) today used the crossover. Possibly the first and probably the last time one will do so whilst carrying passengers.

No. 17 crossover will be renewed, not removed. The alterations is that the 'B' end, which is currently a single switch working in wide-to-gauge configuration with No. 19 points (trapping a reversing train) will be modified to become a standard crossover. No. 19 points will be decommissioned, requiring a mechanical interlocking modification. I can see how I'll be spending Boxing Day Night!

I see another long close down this Christmas for the district line west of South Kensington (December 25 to 30). Is there more major work planned at Earls Court? Or is another area the main focus?

I hope trains will still be able to arrive eastbound into platform 2, detrain, shunt forward and reverse back into platform 3. If not that could be a disaster. That move is used in the normal working timetable several times and I've just put in several more of them for the engineering works on first weekend in February.
