That is a brilliant photo; before the offices for 'C' division (District and Piccadilly) were built alongside the walkway and the regulating room above the rotunda entrance. Also shows the canopy which I believe is almost impossible to take down hence this valuable air space has never been built over. That won't be the case in a few years the development company behind building the new complex of shops and housing are going to cover over the track and build an arcade style of shops.

In the style of Gloucester Road? (Without going off topic, wasn't this planned for South Ken as well, at some point?)

Couldn't get planning consent for South Kensington (and Edgware Road) and the current plans for South Ken are to improve what's there. There's LUL accommodation both sides of the track at Earl's Court.

There is accommodation both sides of the track plus the IMR and Programme Machine room in the way at present. The work will not be started until after the 4LM upgrade but it's due to be completed in time for the opening of the development across the road.

Brilliant photo, where did it come from? I wonder why the scissor was taken out of use?
The photo came from the LU museum's collection.
A few years ago before the exhibition was pulled down, we recreated the photo whilst we still could. We donated the photos to the LT Museum's collection. link
Earlier in this thread DistrictSOM told why the scissor was taken out.

The new point machines just going in now I believe that the point machines will be 4 foot Surelock's, these are electrict operation , replacing the air worked point motors.

Weren't electric points used somewhere else at one point - Edgware Road, perhaps - but they were a pain in the proverbial because they were so much slower (though quieter) than air-worked points?

Yes they are taking about 4 secs to move completely from one side to the other.
The points time themselves out after 7.5 secs to prevent the motor burning out if an obstruction or fault is detected and the points don't complete there travel

Had a visit to Earls Court yesterday. Interestingly, it was possible to walk along the westbound platforms in order to gain access to the Piccadilly line escalators., although the platforms themselves were fenced off. You could also walk down to the eastbound platforms, but only to gain access to the emergency stairs. It was quite a surrral atmosphere! Lots of people walking around looking very confused, and the only staff who were assisting were the engineering workers!
So much for "we are closing ticket offices so that we can make our staff more accessible . . ."
It was the same story at Liverpool Street. It would have been useful to have some staff on the outer rail platform, because there were loads of people waiting for a through Circle line train which of course wasn't running.
Well done to the Tower Hill staff though. A good presence on the platforms.

The reason for replacing air worked points and train stops is to do away with the air main .

After all the effort of installing the new points at EC, are they in operation? I have yet to arrive at Platform 1 on my daily commute from Wimbledon, but have experienced a hold at West Brompton on a few occasions this year, so wonder if they are commissioned and it's just too much of a faff to use them, or are they still waiting on some more testing?

Yes, all fully commissioned and in use - only been over them twice myself.
Next round will be Christmas 2017, when most of the points to the east of the station will be replaced.

8a 8b 30a 30b being replaced with Surelock point machine 17&19 being plain lined this leaves 12a and 12b being air worked at the east end of Earls Court
2a 2b still air worked at the west end of Earls Court

No booked moves over them in the current timetable From Traffic Circular 2/17: 17&19 being plain lined this leaves 12a and 12b being air worked at the east end of Earls Court therefore, no longer a 'yard' if 17/19 being plain-lined ??

That is a rusty rail move but it hasn't always happened
Correct about the " yard " disappearing

WOW i would never expect the yard to be removed thats a shock the amount of times recently when there has been disruption they have reversed trains EB/WB via the yard has been quite high recently as well as reversing from platform 3 West back East that has been used allot the last few months as well.

Correct about the " yard " disappearing Now that's odd. The ATC Project and support projects still seem to be renewing 17/19 and keeping the ATC equivalent of the existing signalled moves.
