All this happening on the day that they are letting me loose on the District Line with Colin. Two Admins on the same train, what do the emergency services know that we don't? lmao

How do I get to be a volunteer at these things? Looks like lots of fun being made up with fake blood and injuries.

It's quite odd I think that at some point, I was sat in one of those carriages where the ends have been cut off. Must be even more odd for our T/Op members. I probably ought to pay more attention to my lecture instead of trying to work out how many times I'd have sat in one of those cars

As all the cars are trailers, T/Ops are perhaps the least likely people to have travelled in them! Anyone know why at least two of the cars have had two different numbers sprayed on their roofs? (6 overwritten by 8 on the nearest) And why they chose a scenario of Waterloo, where all trains are either in deep tubes and probably safe from collapsing tower blocks or, on the NR station, under nothing more substantial than a glass roof. (Although I note that, probably coincidentally, the old Shell Building above the Bakerloo/Northern Tube station is currently being demolished),

I worked filming them a couple of times, once at an emergency services exercise at Bincombe tunnel (a simulated rail crash) and once near Moreton in Marsh for a most extensive test of all services in many circumstances, including collapsed buildings. The casualties union is very thorough and briefs you exactly how you are injured and how you should react, whether you are stoic, or hysterical. They really are damn good. Casualties Union

I would have thought that the modifications such as cutting off body sides would have been done before moving them into position, so the numbers were added to the roofs to allow the people moving them to install them in the right orders and places.

The emergency services sometimes paint car numbers on so they can refer to them in an incident. However, that said, they look to my untrained eye more like they were used when building the incident rather than as part of the response.

I realise that the numbers are painted on to help identification, particularly from the air. (They can often be seen in footage of rail crashes and multi-car pile ups) But why were the numbers changed in this case?

It's a great use of the trains though - might save some lives in the future. What will the world think - it looks like we have trains to throw away!

How do I get to be a volunteer at these things? Looks like lots of fun being made up with fake blood and injuries. many years ago, when i was working for a main line freight company, we were involved with a similar set up in temple mills yard, east London. the scenario was a few mk1 coaches placed to simulate a head on crash, with coaches placed on top of one another.we were observers, but there were over 100 injured and dead actors. the injuries looked so real that it was quite upsetting warching it. the emergency services(apart from the bosses and control)were not told it was only a exercise, until they arrived. it was a fascinating but surreal day. there was true sadness though the next day as when the stratford break down crew were disassembling the coaches, somehow, one toppled over and crushed to death one of the crew.sad day.

The missing coach is obviously buried beneath the others, it said so on the FB link! I don't suppose it's very often that the services get to use current rolling stock on such an exercise.

When I saw the pics of the D stock, my first thought was that train stabling skills are not what they used to be!
