The TfL website is currently showing:
I, uh, thought reversing facilities had already been removed at Putney Bridge?

I dunno what's occurring, but thanks to angelislington I now have the "Putney Station" song in my head! A dead S7 at Wimbledon needing assistance from at least 1 other S7 train was OOS long before I started today and was powered down in platform 3

I hadn't realised those points were still there, I thought they were due for removal; but now that I check again, I see that 8 points aren't going until next year. Ta

Maybe it would be better if they were not removed at all.

You wouldn't be the only one to have thought that; however the option chosen was to remove them and replace them with a scissors crossover at Parsons Green on resignalling.

They are going all being well next Easter the points would be too close to the platform once the w/b has been moved over to the bay road. Remember trains can reverse at East Putney once the ground frame has been unlocked but this is a rare move.

That's in the work bank to be removed as well!
I think it could be designed to allow a train in the WB and a reversing move once the WB has been slewed, but it would mean the platform has to be extended at the Parsons Green end and some more signalling to allow the locking to be released once a train is proved at rest. It probably falls down on the cost/benefit ratio considering resignalling will happen within the next few years (maybe).

Is the crossover at Wimbledon Park being retained?

I suspect it will be. I think the crossover is still used by trains coming from Wimbledon Park Depot heading towards Point Pleasant.

What makes me smile is that the points and track has been ripped out and the bay road hasn't been used in nearly 18 months but the platform monitor box still has all the monitors working.

The legacy CSDE is also still powered up minus the isolating switch as far as the signalling is concerned its all still there

Today I noticed that the buffer stop has been removed at Putney Bridge. When did this happen? The progress of works at the station feels to be progressing at a fairly steady place. Is there a proposed date for when Platform 2 will become the through platform? Looking at the 6 month look ahead, the only Wimbledon branch closure is the May Bank Holiday weekend. Could it be then?

The last remnants of the buffer stop were removed around the middle of October. Yes, May 2016 is being looked at for the next round of major works. removal proved very tricky, with large holes drilled into the 1900s concrete, over several days/weeks: 8 September 2015 8 October 2015: 11 October 2015:

Oh wow was it that long ago! Shows how much attention I've actually been paying then! I'm not surprised it was difficult to come out. It did look pretty snug in it's home!

The next (and final) stage of the work at Putney Bridge will be undertaken during holiday weekend of 28-30 May 2016. - the current WB platform 3 will have the track removed, new track will be laid and platform 2 (the former bay) will become the new WB platform for trains to Wimbledon. - a platform extension will be added to platform 2 (west end) at a later date, initially the first door on S7 Stock will not open at this platform (currently the rear door on pfm.3) - 8A/8B points to the west of the station will be removed, no reversing will now be possible. (9/10B were removed after the bay was decommissioned) - the current WB approach speed of 10mph, will be raised to 30mph - the current WB departure speed of 15mph will be raised to 30mph.

No longer a railway, now a Roller Coaster. And that's why.

I suppose that there are plenty of reversing options at Parsons Green, so Putney Bridge may not be a big loss. I know a lot of work is set to take place at Parsons Green soon to rationalise the area, will it still be possible to reverse the service there?

PG is useful for not only reversing late Wimbledon trains, but also late running Ealing and Richmond services.

Whilst it's vital for improving performance and cutting maintenance costs, wouldn't this increase the risk of severe line disruption? With the lack of reversing roads, a faulty train or other failure could hold up the line for much longer and the lack of reversing facilities could cause larger portions of a particular line to be affected. Could they not at least utilize Platform 3 by adding a bay road?

Parsons Green is to be altered too, the access from 21/22 roads to EB track will be lost, however a new diamond crossing (in red) will be installed. (beats me how this would work!) (remember that 29rd 31rd are unable to take S7 Stock)

I was trying to remember exactly what was to happen at PG, I remember you showing me this, but I couldn't recall the details and I'd forgotten about the scissors crossover. It is absolutely beyond me to understand why number 31 road seems like it's gonna survive :S

Engineers train siding that's all it's long enough for but the route is currently decommissioned.

I heard somewhere (true or not I'm not sure) that the girderwork supporting the present W B platform track is becoming life-expired

So finally Platform 3 is no more and Platform 2 is a through platform. It's confused the odd commuter, which can be rather amusing! Trains still seem enter the platform quite slowly, but certainly appear to depart a lot quicker... S-Stock still announce the last doors will not open, so I guess an amendment shall be forthcoming...?

Until the platform is extended slightly a 10mph temporary speed restriction is in place WB, this will be lifted to 30mph.
On S Stock the front door now remains closed, again until the platform extension is done.
