Is the current proposal for the SSRs trackwork much different from that of the initial upgrade plan? The LU 'wants' list seems to be going ahead although the implementation dates of projects is either earlier or later than planned under the Bombardier contract.

bassmike , I've looked back through all your posts for the last year. Could you either quote yourself or repeat yourself, please? Look back again section two of this thread April 10th 10.38 am. For those that can't be bothered to look back through the thread, here it is in all it's glory: I heard somewhere (true or not I'm not sure) that the girderwork supporting the present W B platform track is becoming life-expired So in answer to the question, "What is going to happen to Platform 3" I would guess that it will eventually be dismantled.

That's a great shame as even though there were a few nuggets of pragmatism, a lot of flexibility was removed. Its all very well having scissors here and there, but loops allowing one train to overtake another are surely very useful, and are almost all going.

Not necessarily. A girder may not be able to support a train but perfectly safe for a portacabin, for example. Here is platform 0 at Clapham Junction, whose condition was such that platform 2 had to be extensively remodelled to accomodate the new Overground services via the South London line, but not so bad it had to be demolished.

I thought it was the presence of signalling cabinets on the trackbed rather than the state of the girder that dictated the arrangements at Clapham Junction?

The rearrangements at Clapham junction were quite complicated from a signalling perspective. Moving a signal cabinet would have been relatively staightforward in comparison.

First post so a little about me: daily underground user, my interest in metropolitan transport systems started in Sydney where I was a long distance commuter for a decade before moving to London. Met some fine British railway people who were working for CityRail in Sydney, ended up on some transport forums and committees and even rewrote and upgraded the timetable for my commuter line which reduced the peak hour journey to Sydney by 7 minutes over a 80 minute trip.
To the point:Have become a daily user of Putney Bridge and noticed this evening a chap in a high visibility vest documenting the congestion on the new narrow platform 2. Any ideas as to when the scaffolding comes down and a wider platform is restored?

The work on the westbound at Putney Bridge should be finished in July.

I thought it was the presence of signalling cabinets on the trackbed rather than the state of the girder that dictated the arrangements at Clapham Junction? Nope - though the signalling equipment was a complication and added to the costs, the primary reason why reinstatement of the the original platform layout was always was the state of the girders, which effectively would have required complete replacement if they were to take the weight of trains again.

Any idea when the Putney Bridge westbound platform will be completed? S stock still have no messages in the front car that the front door will not open and the work to extend the front of the platform seems to be taking an eternity.

Looks like the platform extension is complete. The S stock still don't open their front door at Putney Bridge, at least on the train I used this evening, but the platform has full passenger access and the hoardings are gone.

The extension was available from Saturday morning, S Stock front door will remain closed until the legacy D Stock monitors are removed. The temporary 10mph speed restriction on the WB approach has now been lifted, so that 30mph is the norm both WB and EB.
