Unless a wide angle lens was used by James a very sharp radius point will be needed here to gain access to the new third track ! Maybe they will build a wider bridge over the stream or is it a footpath and start the junction a bit further back ? The relay cabinet with the yellow stripe will need relocating.

Another video from Network Rail - this time about 80% of the track having been laid for the extra line from Lea Bridge to Meridian Water. It's the station areas which are lacking track - presumably because of the construction work for new platforms. When I went on the 34 the other weekend the three platform faces at Meridian Water were all in place which was a bit of a surprise. I hadn't expected the main line platforms to be in place.

Maybe it depends on where the funding is coming from for the works - Meridan Water is being paid for by the developer so I guess TfL can force through a more expensive solution where as other works are subject to DfT / NR / TfL budget cuts / constraints and the work has been subtly de-scoped (i.e. don't provide pasive provision for a 4th track if it is going to cost slightly more).

We should not loose sight of the fact that the STAR project is being built on what was the goods only lines into Temple mills marshalling yards and were built so that the many freight trains that came in from East Anglia had access to the yards without getting in the way of passenger trains this is reflected in the signalling which was very likely No Block / Permissive working of some sort .As no passenger trains used the line no land was needed for any platforms then so the boundary fence on the east side need only be a few metres from the up goods line . This has not moved for the most part since the lines were lifted in c1969 since then many factories /warehouses and houses not to mention access roads have been built right up the fence. So to build new up platforms on a relaid up line additional land will need to be purchased at least several metres wide and relocate the boundary with Networkrail and/or TFL. Now can you imagine the cost involved here not to mention the amount of work required. I think the best we can expect is a 4th line which will become the up fast track which will be very useful in the years to come.

As work progresses (see pics below) it looks very obvious to me that there is NO provision for a future fourth track anywhere on this project. Come the day when either Stansted Airport or Crossrail2 fund double-tracking along this line, basically all of the track, signalling and OH equipment that's being installed on the STAR project with have to be ripped up and shuffled a few feet across - its absolutely obscene that this is being allowed to happen.

Nice to see those snaps. Haven't been to T Hale in a fair while so wasn't aware they'd made quite that much progress. Interesting to see the lift tower for the new pedestrian bridge being put in place. That looks a bit further north than I thought it would be. I see that the electrification masts for the third track nicely prevent a fourth track being added - means a lot of work for CR2 if they ever turn up on site and have to create a 4 track / 4 platform railway.

Nothing about NR's shambolic ineptitude surprises me anymore. Have any Network Rail projects been completed on time and budget? I'm sure there are some very hard workers there but clearly it's got some atrocious management.

From the pictures, it seem that when (or if) CR2 arrives, Meridian Waters will end up with 2 island platforms, which means slewing the down fasts over to a newly built platform. I'm not sure you could do this at any others though.

No great shock to anyone but formal application has been made to close Angel Road station when Meridian Water station opens. Opening date for the station, and I assume STAR, is 19 May 2019. www.londontravelwatch.org.uk/news/view?id=708Formal documents linked to from that London Travelwatch page.

Work continues apace on the STAR route. Noted today at Tottenham Hale
- a lot of work to the south of T Hale with substantial earthworks and supporting structures on the boundary with Ferry Lane Estate - drainage works right near Ferry Lane bridge. This means the track isn't in place here. - track and electrical masts in place from south of Ferry Lane estate - platform structure works substantially complete at T Hale - track and electrical masts including arms and hangers in place to the north of Tottenham Hale and in the new platform area. - new lift towers in place at T Hale station - first elements of vertical structural work now visible at T Hale station (LUL works)
I was quite surprised at the progress with the electrification works but I guess they're aiming to get that done ASAP with station works and final track works to follow on at a slightly slower pace.

They're not far off finishing the drainage and embankment support works south of T Hale which should allow track to be completed here and also the wiring. I suspect we are going to end up with an odd situation at T Hale with the STAR works complete but the LU ticket hall works a long way behind. This is going to create some interesting challenges as to how the place operates. I caught a PM peak train to Stratford last week. There were a lot of people waiting for it and plenty already on the train. Over 50 people were waiting at Lea Bridge which was a real surprise. A positive torrent of people alighted at Stratford and there were already a lot of people waiting for the next northbound train. It's going to be very interesting to see how patronage accelerates once STAR starts next May - assuming NR get everything finished by then.

It's my preferred route to Westfield, Stratford - one stop from Seven Sisters to Tottenham Hale then the NR to Stratford - going anyway because I memorise the half hourly times - but coming back - often I am finished shopping long before a train is due so revert to the LO to Highbury & Islington and then the Victoria Line back to Seven Sisters. If the frequency improves to near metro levels next year I may well be using it for my return journeys. The potential demand is certainly there.
