A poster has appeared at Rayners Lane indicating that the Met will be closed between Ruislip and Uxbridge Monday July 21st to Friday August 8th. Piccadilly line trains will terminate at Rayners Lane. A visit to the Tfl web site also shows engineering work weekends July 19th/20th and August 9th/10th.

on the days where both met and picc are suspended rayners lane to uxbridge, how does the reversal procedure work at rayners lane? both lines using the siding?

Doubt the siding will take an S8, it was a very tight squeeze for A stock.
Trains can simply reverse out from the westbound platform, there are crossovers to the east on both lines, but this would severely limit capacity.

i think can hold S7 as well If it can hold a train made up of 8 cars, I doubt that there would be a problem with a train made up if 7 cars unless somehow this road can only accommodate shape-shifting trains, a secret ability only fitted to the s8s

It is a good question however. How will rayners lane turn round both lines? We may find half the Piccadilly trains terminate at south harrow and half the met trains reverse at harrow?

The last time it happened (26/01/2013) the Met service to Rayners Lane was every 15 mins the rest, as you say, were meant to reverse at Harrow. Then the work got cancelled and the trains which would have reversed at Harrow continued to Uxbridge but those scheduled to reverse at Rayners Lane still did.

Is anyone able/permitted to divulge what's being done (track/signalling/bridge...?) and if track works, whether it's all like-for-like replacement, or if any layout/geometry changes are occurring (a while ago I read of a plan to revise the Uxbridge approaches and sidings.)
Incidentally, have the hacks got hold of this yet - I'd have thought this why prime cause for one of their stock "tube chaos for three weeks" headlines.

There is no mention on the poster or the TfL web site as to why. Nothing in the local press yet either.

Is anyone able/permitted to divulge what's being done (track/signalling/bridge...?) I did mention at the top of my post Track replacement work Uxbridge-Ickenham, actually bullhead replacement. Can anyone clarify this? Will the Watford/Chesham/Amersham or Chiltern services be running on these dates? "No Chiltern Railways service Amersham-Marylebone on Sunday". Although not specifically mentioned, i would assume Northwood-Watford, Watford-Amersham/Chesham.

I can see all three platform tracks at Uxbridge have been replaced, but so far the pointwork outside hasn't been. Is this to be done over the weekend before normal service is resumed on Monday (11/8/14)?

Must have just missed it then! But the Tfl site still says the branch is closed this weekend, for track replacement at Ickenham. No mention of Uxbridge, so maybe the points aren't being replaced?

Must be doing stuff between Ruislip and Ickenham because ballast trains have been active all day today between the two points.
BTW the Uxbridge Met service ended last night at 23.00 so work could resume for the weekend possession.

There was no full-scale Points and Crossings Renewal - the scope was to undertake a number of sections of plain line renewal and heavy maintenance on the points, inlcuding both 'half sets' (stock and switch rails) on a number of points in Uxbridge Sidings and the replacement of the fabricated diamond crossings outside Uxbridge with Manganese Steel cast centre block crossings (weighing 3.4t each!).

Indeed, think it was only being advertised locally as open with network updates still saying it was closed due to a limited frequency operating. In any case I went there to photo the rail replacement buses so was glad they continued to operate, not least as I wanted to go to West Ruislip station which the rail replacement buses were serving!

Rode the branch today, the new track is fine, but still a very rough ride over the old points with bullhead rail on wooden sleepers. Shame the job couldn't have been completed.

There is currently a 15mph limit over the last set of points from Uxbridge sidings on the main eastbound line.
So expect another major closure to replace the points?
