Hi all According to the recent Underground News, the 1995 stock are getting a refurbishment. Starting from December and lasting until 2014, all carriages will be done. Anymore information or pictures? kabsonline

Hopefully to remove all the graffiti!
I hope they don't take arm-rests out!
Other than that I don't really see an urgent need for a refurb, so hopefully it will be relatively minor - perhaps a new DMI with the bigger text seen on S-stock, and maybe destinations on the sides of trains as on D and S, so that I can see whether the train is going to High Barnet without squinting at the destination board!

I agree, there are quite a few units where the graffiti has been cleaned but it has scarred the paintwork so you can still see the message that was written, repaint would be nice. Otherwise they appear to be in good nick. Weirdly there don't seem to be any DM's with sticky tape on the cabs, unlike the 1996 stock which seem to be plentiful.
The DMI's on the 95 stock conform to DDA rules so I'd imagine they'd be kept as they are (orange text) whereas the original 96 stock with red ones don't.
I'd imagine the interior refurb would see the cars fitted with Barman moquette but not an awful lot else.

They generally seem a well-kept stock - I'm surprised a refurb has been kicked off already

To be honest, I'd always thought that the 1992 stock (Central) would get a refurb way before the 95 stock. In any case, the 92 stock ended up getting a refresh, and in order to conform to DDA rules, does it still need a display inside anyway?
In any case, the 1995 stock, in my opinion seem to be quite well kept, and I would think that the refurb wouldn't change too much. Side destinations would be useful as the line has a number of routing options, and some can be confused if in a rush/not concentrating.

To be honest, I'd always thought that the 1992 stock (Central) would get a refurb way before the 95 stock. In any case, the 92 stock ended up getting a refresh, and in order to conform to DDA rules, does it still need a display inside anyway? This seems to be more of a refresh than a refurb. All of the 'proper' refurbishment programmes involved one unit or train done as a prototype a few years before work started on the rest of the fleet. The reason for refurbishing those stocks was to modernise them so that normal passengers wouldn't be able to tell the difference between them and the then new 92/95/96TS. That work often involved changing the seating layout or redesigning parts of the interior, fitting windows in the trailing ends of cars, DVA, electronic destination displays, etc. The 95 stock doesn't need that amount of work, in fact they seem to be in reasonable condition. Apart from a few units having damaged paint (and there are even a few S stocks running with missing car numbers), the only problem I've noticed is 'bumps' in the flooring on some 95/96TS cars where it's no longer stuck down properly (I'm not sure if this affects one stock more than the other as I don't use the Northern as often as I've been on the Jubilee recently). Although the new moquette is very likely to be fitted to the 95TS, the 96TS have received it and that wasn't counted as a refresh so some other work is probably planned for the 95s. However I'm not sure how side destination displays could easily be fitted to 95 stock.

Been on both, I think their floors with 'air bubbles' is the only problem. Both have the same problem, although I don't think the 7th car on the 96TS has this problem. However I'm not sure how side destination displays could easily be fitted to 95 stock. I'd think it could be an 'in window' thing like-ish the D Stock, fitted behind the window, unless the 95TS get a proper refurb, which probably won't be for some time (where more drastic things can occur)...

No doubt the moquette will be changed to the new standard LU design as seen on the '92s and '96s.
I'm surprised at this news to be honest as I too don't think the '95s need much work done on them. I'd rather they spent the money making the Central line refresh more worthwhile (e.g. modifying the lighting)

I know this wont happen, but I would love to see TFL get a new DVA announcer. I really hate the sound of Celia's voice, and have someone like Sarah on the Northern line. The Jubilee is fine but I find the Northern line DVA so annoying! Just the tone of her voice!

yeah, doesn't seem worth it to me either. Save for a bit of re-painting and curing the bubbly floor I don't see any issues with them. Is there work that needs doing to the running gear?

I don't mind Celia!! And yeah there are other trains which need a 'refresh' and the 1995 stock isn't one of them. Apart from a bit of tarting up I don't really see what else can be done. Seeing as the 1972(II) stock will be in service for a lot longer maybe spend the money tarting them and the 1973 stock up!

To be honest, the 1973 stock actually was a really good refurb, in my opinion. Many people think that the stock is newer, and when the D78s weren't refurbished, people were surprised when I told them the 1973 stock was older than the D78 stock. So the 1973 stock can wait for a small bit. 1972 stock on the other hand might need a bit of a refresh, in my opinion.

I'd rather they spent the money making the Central line refresh more worthwhile (e.g. modifying the lighting) Don't worry, the new lighting exists! I think it's car 92583 or something like that where they have new lighting. Shame that the doors are in a bad nick.

Would it ever be worth bringing a few 1967 stocks back into service on the Bakerloo if it was extended to Watford Junction (there's plenty of 67s at Eastleigh)

I'd like it to be extended to Watford, but I don't know how complex it is to remove the ATO equipment. Don't worry, the new lighting exists! I think it's car 92583 or something like that where they have new lighting. Shame that the doors are in a bad nick. link? because i can't see picture There IS a picture, with a correctly functioning link. However, it is only available to those who are following jammz (@rysx) on Twitter, unfortunately. I know because I can see it as I'm following him on twitter. His account is on private, and I know why.

There was a photo of the '92 stock's modified lighting on Flickr (which I could have sworn was linked on the less tape on cabs' thread but I'm struggling to locate it) but I was under the impression that was a one off trial, especially as LUL said there were no plans to replace the lighting fleet-wide. This was attributed to 91/92185

The first train of refurb 95-ts is almost complete at Morden - the big driver being the condition of the floors that have a new floor system fitted along with 09-ts style finishes. Other internal changes are repaint/filming to finishes including grab rails, Barman seating moquette and some RVAR changes that will include, in the future, wheelchair position backboards. Externally it is a re-filming and car numbers in modified New Johnston. The eagle eyed amongst you may also spot the missing 'H' on the new step plates!

On a 95TS I was on recently, I noticed one of the interconnecting doors had the Jubilee line turquoise trim on it. I wonder if this has anything to do with the refresh..

I remember this from when I first joined the Forum. IIRC it's simply nothing more than a communal spare parts pool, the 95ts and 96ts being quite similar.

The eagle eyed amongst you may also spot the missing 'H' on the new step plates! I recently acquired one of the removed plates (hence, the recently-added additional year on my avatar picture!); details here. Are the new plates still marked '1996'?
