What did happen to the two T stock cars that were used as sleet locos? They were still around at the time of the last edition I have of the London Underground Rolling Stock book dated 1986 - they are listed as being stored at Neasden. They are preserved at the Spa Valley Railway but without any traction motors etc. XF

They're looking a bit rusty and careworn, and rarely see use. The electrical cubicles are a tad empty!

Here is the video - first trip out for my new camera and the settings not ideal hence a some buffering issues, At the end of this the camera battery was very hot and died just as I got off the train!
Enjoy

I thoroughly enjoyed Saturday (apart from my grandfather almost not making it back to the train in time once). I'm really pleased with the pack that was given out at Moorgate; it certainly gives something to remember the day (and stock!) by. We left at Aldgate in the end (along with four or so others) so we missed out on that speedy run back to Wembley. My photos from the day are here: www.flickr.com/photos/joshtechfission/sets/72157631652964192/. EDIT: Rickmansworth to Northwood Hills: Departing Aldgate for the last time:

Yes, we were a bit surprised to see that guy try to nick our envelope of stuff. Never mind. Also, it did get a bit fractious at the stand at the Amersham stand, and a quite vocal lady did keep trying to push herself to the front (by standing on my foot a lot), but kudos to the very nice chap on the events team who came over to help take money to attempt to speed things up. Now I just need to find a place to put the luggage racks That was a great trip. So many years spent travelling that line, and even living above it at one point. I will miss the Met Line crests by the doors most of all. It seemed like the last link to the "old" railway. Forgive me if I've missed it said on here, but is there a reason that the train listed in the booklet wasn't the one we actually travelled in? And I was under the impression that a complete train WAS being preserved anyway? Anyway, lots of money raised for the Railway Children, and a really good day out. I joined this forum mainly just to say thank you, LT Museum, TfL and all the staff who made it possible. A few pics on my Flickr site here: www.flickr.com/photos/timmydunn/sets/72157631657218914/with/8039085980/

Some excellent photographs and video footage so far! Comment was made in our car that between all of the records created during the tour, someone could more or less re-live the entire event again! Out of interest, did anyone capture a recording of the driver on the Watford to Chesham leg admitting that he had never driven the North Curve until that moment? That certainly provoked some rather nervous laughs in Car A! My own photographs and video of the event can now be seen at: www.streetlightonline.co.uk/Tube/AStockFarewell/index.htm - if any of the captions are a load of tosh, please let me know!

Hi all, Here are my attempts of photos from the tour: smu.gs/P4OPniA very enjoyable day out. Seven of us made the trip from Ireland to travel on it and it was well worth it. The only downside of the day was the farce at Amersham with the event stand. It would have been better to have that at Wembley Park after the tour finished which would have allowed people plenty of time to browse, instead of trying to get through 400 people in 45 minutes. It simply didn't work and after queing for 20 odd mins and time running out for the train departure I didn't even get near the stand as the crowd was several people deep. Totally under resourced for the task at hand. That "vocal" lady was right in her views. Irish Underground.

What I will say about the farewell tour is this. Some comment had been made that £40 was a bit steep and more tickets could have been sold to really fill every seat. I felt that TFL got it spot on! The train wasn't packed, it was nicely populated with space for everyone. The brown envelope that was given out to passengers was excellent with a welll produced booklet inside. The timings were a bit tight and photography was never going to be easy for tour participants but that wasn't what the tour was about.
I feel that TFL deserve an enormous ammount of credit for the organisation and running of the tour. Stopping the train at Rickmansworth for the group of former A stock drivers was an excellent idea. Everyone involved on the train entered into the spirit of the occasion. I came away feeling that I had recieved excellent value for money and a wonderful experience. The Drivers for the day all entered into the spirit of the occasion and the final run to Wembley Park was a spectacular way of ending the A stock story. We will never see the like again.

One other note, it also appeared to me that the older gentlemen who ventured off of the end of the platform at Chesham weren't passengers on the train but photographers who had made thier own way there as they were still there when we left!

Out of interest, did anyone capture a recording of the driver on the Watford to Chesham leg admitting that he had never driven the North Curve until that moment? The Train Op at the time (though they all nicely referred to themselves as "Drivers" all day long) was SquareWheels according to Twitter. I remember the announcement was along the lines of "Ladies and Gentlemen we're just waiting for an ex-Chesham service on the main to clear the junction before we take the North Curve to Chesham, which I've never actually driven before in this direction! We should be on the move shortly". It was little things like this that made the day really special. I sense a strongly worded letter of compliment coming on! I'm still kicking myself though that I didn't get a picture of the train at Wembley with the DMI in shot too.

Glad that everyone had a great day. I don't think the demise of the A stock has really sunk in yet to be honest. I will always love the Underground and it literally is a part of me, but little by little it's becoming a very different place to what I knew when I first used it from the mid 70's as a little boy, through the 80's as a roving explorer etc. The smells, noises, rough rides of back then have disappeared into history, and a little piece of me with them. Back in 1987, I remember riding with my friend on an A stock between Finchley Road and Wembley Park, being bounced all over the place. Then there was the musty smell of the unrefurbished units. The Met will certainly never be the same again.

See if anyone can spot the custard in Antharro's top picture on page 21! Oh yes! Was good to have a chat on the train up from Basing on the Wednesday Glyn, shame I only saw you and Metman very briefly on the tour/s. Is another meet in the pipeline? Another chance for a natter, was good to see you! I've been very depressed since Saturday, can't get over the A stock going, they were legendary

First time poster - excellent day out on Saturday to say farewell to old friends. From our point of view, it gave faithful servants a fitting send off. From my point of view, I was ex-works at the same time as the A60s, so my turn for the scrapyard soon I suppose.
The full route was Moorgate P4, fast line to HOTH P3, slow line to Watford P2, Chesham, fast line to HOTH P2, fast line to Amersham P1, slow line to HOTH P6, Uxbridge P2, HOTH P6, fast line Wembley Park P6, Aldgate P3, and finally VERY FAST LINE to Wembley Park P1.
Farewell to a very important aspect of the Metropolitan Railway's history.

As for the 'vocal lady' who pushed her way to the front, repeatably saying to anyone in her way "I'm before you" tried to push in front of me and a blind man standing next to me. I replied "no you're not" and it was then she started jumping up and down shouting and waving her arms about. I made sure the blind man was served before me and then purchased my large luggage rack and only just made it back to the train. By the way I recognised the woman from last Wednesdays A stock run making a nuisance of herself in the train.

The high spot for me was meeting ex Met and Northern Line Motorman nicknamed "Detnator Dave" a very witty and funny character. Myself and 'Detonator Dave' were drivers together at Baker Street and hadn't seen each other for nearly twenty years until we bumped into each other on the platform at Amersham. As he didn't have a ticket I gave him my spare, Railwaymen together and all that. I'm glad that by giving him the ticket he was able to enjoy the day (he got a bit emotional!) and am also glad it was a high spot for you as a result. prjb, could you give me a small hint who you were on the tour, I feel sure when 'Detonator Dave' was telling the story of 'The Gas Fridge' you were the guy standing up with us. I know his son is on this forum (a 1938 tube stock fan like myself) I would like to thank both of you for making my day. It was a nice unexpected touch to come and shake my hand after the train left for the depot.

I was the chap daydreaming at Moorgate when he opened the doors to let the LTM staff in. He smiled and gave me the benefit of the doubt. ;D

The female announcer/shouter/jobsworth at Amersham was also fun referring to "her platform" and telling the lady in the grey suit (Angela Back) to stand away from the platform edge. XF

Jo: "Please stand back from my platform edge, the A Stock [sic] for Aldgate is now approaching and I don't want to make the driver grumpy"
Some Wag in the crowd: "He's already grumpy cos he's driving an S Stock!"
