For those that may not be able to get tickets, or may be busy on 29th, any idea when last day of C stock normal operation is, and also what train(s)/diagram(s) they will work yet? Tuesday will be the last passenger day. One train will be running until 13.39 arrival at Edgware Road.

Would that make it that 1308 Departure from Wimbledon (Train 074)? I guess it would also be the units that were working train 72 tomorrow (which are the units that stable in PG21 tonight), but the altered frequency today may change that up a bit

Will tomorrow June 2nd have three or four sets in service? It seems it will be the last full day so any advance info would be welcome to plan a visit. Thanks in advance.

I somewhat doubt that the units tomorrow will be following the normal progression (eg 72 -> 74 etc) now that the service has gone completely belly up. It was running out of turn following a signal failure earlier, and now all of the signals between tower hill and Wimbledon (as reported by driver, but I suspect it is all signals from earls court) have gone down because of a power supply issue.

Hi all
If they get rid of all the older C stock trains what around at the monument would they still able to run the service with newer stock or would they still need to run the old stock on that line.

Hi John
I don't understand the question - if they haven't yet got enough new S stocks to run the service they wouldn't yet withdraw the last of the C stock.
As they are planning to run only one train of C stock tomorrow, and then only until lunchtime, I assume they now have enough S stock trains to cover the complete service without using any C stock.
D stock will still be running for a while of course.

Certainly should have. As of now, 54 S7s commissioned for service (OK, some are on maintenance/training) but 32 for C&H and 8 for District, should be ample, including spares.
Edit - the figure of 54 excludes the three S7+1s on the Met.

Trains 73 and 74 swapped over at some point during the day, meaning that units 5721-5531-5578 stabled at Hammersmith depot. Edgware Road-Hammersmith was also operated in service.
I'm sure I'll see some of you out tomorrow for the last run - I'll be wearing a blue hoodie, red shoes, a backpack and brandishing my camera, so please do come and say hello.

Alas, I didn't see the C stock on my way to work (East Putney towards Earls Court at 8am this morning) I may have just missed it, but otherwise I only saw a C stock in a siding at Parsons Green.

I've been told by one of the staff members who seems to be involved in the running of the day that the train *may* run to Neasden early - in around thirty minutes time when it next arrives at Edgware Road. I last spoke to him about 45 minutes ago and he was trying to ensure that the original plan was adhered to, but I don't know how successful he was. I'm camped out at Edgware Road to be ready for either eventuality!

Please let us know if he was successful. There isn't much point going out if I'm only going to get an S7

I'm on it right now. Just at West Brompton. Hoping it doesn't get taken out of service early as it took me an hour to get to Wimbledon this morning (usually 25 mins) thanks to the rush hour traffic!

Change of plans. Due to mileage restrictions the train has now been taken out of service. Apparently this is the train that will be used for the tour.

That's the end of the C Stock for me.
I come out early so that I could take creative shots of my cuddly toy owl riding the train instead of just the usual "front of train shots", and avoid the crowds of enthusiasts later on.
The first out and inbound journeys were free of PA announcements, with the driver constantly going on about it being the last C Stock in revenue service. It seems this driver has a passion for these machines, but the passengers do not seem interested because I suppose they all saw how bad the C Stock was, given the deteriorating condition and falling approval ratings.
I could have brought bubbly to celebrate its departure like those sacked TV-am technicians if it hadn't been for the alcohol bye-laws and my rejective taste-buds (the latter was the decisive factor), but I came anyway just to have some photographic fun. It's like being the 1980s again, only nostalgic.

Are they going to substitute the train, or is that the final run of a C stock in passenger service?
Edit: who was driving it? Was it one of the forum members. Maybe even solidbond (if he still works at LU, I don't know)

I would guess that that's it. An S stock left Edgware Road going to Wimbledon. I didn't note the train number but I assume it was 074 as it left at the same time as 074 was booked to depart.

Are they going to substitute the train, or is that the final run of a C stock in passenger service? That's the final run - as mentioned, it's due to mileage restrictions. An S7 has taken over the diagram, and the set has run to Hammersmith depot where it will now have it's very-permanatly attached headboards removed for the last tour. It's expected the ends will need a repaint once they're off! Lots of whistling, and I think there was a platform announcement, however I was on the unit getting my final ride.

antje, I think that's a little unfair. If it was a choice between taking it out of service today and having enough mileage left on it to run the tour then I'd rather that than have the tour amended or cancelled. Perhaps poor planning on TfL's part in not making sure the train had enough mileage left, but then it was never advertised to the public as a special train so they can change it as / when they feel necessary.

Apologies for the harsh Simon Cowell-like criticism of the C Stock, but I feel that there is going to be a lot of sad faces from fans later today. However, I wasn't aware that they were now subject to what seems like smaller mileage limits. If there is one redeeming value C Stock, it's the high-capacity circulation that we all knew of.

Not smaller mileage limits. As I understand it, each train has a prescribed amount of mileage it can run until it has to return to depot for maintenance. This particular C stock must have been close to its mileage, so the powers that be decided to pull it out of service now so it had enough mileage left for the tour, rather than risk the tour. Maintenance can be expensive and there's no point maintaining a train that's going to be scrapped.

So, if the train reforming hadn't taken place on Sunday (because of a signal failure) then the final C stock may well have been running until 1339. Shame.

5733 rolled through Edgware Road at 9:59 on a scrap run. So no help there.

If anyone knows when 5733 is likely to be moved, in service or empty, it would be very useful to know. Presumably 5733 is the unit that but for the signals failure yesterday would have ended up at Triangle last night with enough spare mileage to run on 074 til lunchtime today.

5733 would have been the honoured unit today, but because of a signal failure on sunday, it was reformed. Unfortunately, its already gone off for scrap

5733 rolled through Edgware Road at 9:59 on a scrap run. So no help there. Well, I can't remember the last time that a last day of revenue service for a type of train was cut short. Must have been way before I was around. I can't help but emphasise the dire health of the remaining vehicles. I just hope nothing bad happens at the final tour, which I can't go to for personal reasons.
