Just for a bit of fun I thought I would have a go at retro-livering a train of S Stock. My Photoshop skills are not up to the standard of some others who have made a hobby of this art form, however I think that S Stock looks better in this livery – so do other DD members think? Needs the slightly darker front cab M stock, but it looks great. Perhaps some London TransporT labels and red car numbers! ;D

Forgive me for asking a question and a half (and a couple more), but what is the process in photoshop to do this? Can it be done in illustrator? How involved is the process, and how long, roughly, did 'repainting' one car take you?
I'd love to see one in the 'Mars Bar' livery that the 59ts heritage unit carried!

I am very much a novice in this area and I am still learning I use Photoshop Elements in Edit Full mode and use layers however if you look closely at both of my photos they could be done much better. Very nice aluminium S stocks there. Bengley, I'd be interested to see your version about 30-40% lighter - the sort of colour the A stock was just before they painted it. Here's my Overground S stock from a while ago. Modified image copyright Paul Burkitt-Gray. Base image copyright Ben Elias. I've been meaning to do a photoshopped version of the S stock with higher tops to the doors, which I think would improve the appearance a bit, once I find a good photo I can use taken from a lower angle.

Very nice wonder what the A stock would look like in LT red with Lt in gold down the side?

S Stock in LT Red Original photo courtesy of "Bengley" XF Liking this - just need to make the doors cream to meet RAVR requirements and you'll have the perfect modern-day retro livery (Have to say, though, the Overground livery suits the s-stock surprisingly well )

I'm not sure if it'll look good, but I can always try.. to see how the Met would have looked had it been passed to NSE ages ago xD

Looking a bit like what was done to the 38ts on the IOW; but then again, the A stock is slightly based on the 38ts.

Indeed?!
The A stock was based on prototype cars built in 1946 on the chasis of two withdrawn T stock cars 2707 and 2752. I'm convinced the designers Graff-Baker and Manser took the fluid lines and cab front of the P stock and the wide body and door layout of the F stock, both operating the open saloon services on the Uxbridge Line.

The nearest comparable tube stock to the 'A' stock would be the 60ts that was also built by Cravens.

Whilst watching videos of the Ongar line on Youtube its quite noticeable that they have that excellent unique hum of the motors making it stand out from other Met Camm stuff. I got the 1992 Central line Video 125 DEV for Christmas! ;D

Well, when you look at the family of LU stocks, the A stock is slightly related to the 38ts. And with that I mean slightly.

The A stock takes the sucessful principles of the 1938 stock and builds on it, namely the tried and tested PCM. The rest is very different.

And that's what makes it a 38ts relative... But let's return to our subject.
