I'm thinking of buying myself another train simulator. I have BVE4, which is great, but theres not much you can do on BVE. Plus, it does play havoc with my computer. (Not that i'm complaining, as it is free). I'm thinking of buying that World of Subways Vol.3 with the London Underground, as the detail looks better than BVE and I think you can do more in it (i.e. change destination blinds, open doors, and I think it even has moving passengers), but you can only do the Circle Line. Is it worth me buying it? I've also got the 2001 edition of Trainz, which is good, but there is a 12th edition which I am considering buying. Is it better than the 2001 edition, and are there any scenarios on it from Britain, and any British trains on it? Also, are there any other train simulators you can recommend? Thanks

Microsoft Train Sim always seems popular, though I havent tried it myself. Railworks, too, seems to have quite a good community behind it, though I've found it utterly incomprehensible to dabble with!
I'd agree about BVE though, but then again its only ever tried to be a drivers eye thing.
Trainz 2001?? Is that version 1.3? I had that too and loved it. Just couldnt be bothered to upgrade for ages, then I finally got 2006. Honestly, try a newer version! I've not tried anything newer than 2009 but the difference is phenominal. Its just as simple to use, and extremely similar to 1.3; shouldnt vex you atall. And yes, loads of British stuff too. You can pick up a copy of 2009 for about a fiver online now. Its worth it just for access to the content catalouge; tons of british stuff there.

World of Subways is very good. The braking may be a bit off (unless the C stock really is that awful) and some things are missing (Met doesn't even exist), but I'd say it's worth the money.

Thanks for the replies.
I think I may treat myself to both World of Subways and the latest edition of Trainz.
Trouble is, Trainz 12 is quite expensive even on Amazon/ebay.
Also, i've research Railworks Train Simulator, and that looks quite good. Anyone have this simulator?

WoS might be good, but it lacks line speed markers, CSDE, selective door opening, proper physics (come on - a C69/77 doesn't reach 37 mph in shunt mode. probably moar gravity needed)

The initial release will be Earls Court to Ealing Broadway including the Richmond branch. Same as the MSTS version. So a lot of overground scenery to do but our route builder is working on it. Jimi, the physics editor is making the D78 as realistic as possible with runback protection, opening cab doors and rain wiped away from the windscreen by the wipers. Also, he is getting the acceleration and deceleration accurate for each throttle notch including the RPA notching sounds. I think we may be ready for an initial release next year but this project is a big one and it takes a lot of time.

Hopefully, it's done when it's done... are any betas getting released at some point or only when it's done. Tripcock also being implemented?

Were not really into beta's. As you said, it gets done when it's done. The tripcock will be implemented and require resetting if tripped.

And then the 15mph speed limit for a couple of minutes?

Yep! And the two minute motoring at 15mph max. All included in the scripting.

Awesome. In the meanwhile, I'm learning the BVE route format so I can keep myself busy while waiting for next summerwhen it's done.

Is it possible to change the destination blind during the game? If I'm not wrong, it wasn't possible in MSTS.

Will the 73ts I have seen in some screenshots be available at the same time too?

I hope so, and else, it still looks great, even if it's AI traffic.

Once the D78 is finished and ready for release I'm going to start on the 73 cab. It may be released as AI first. I'm investigating how to change the destination blind in game. Not sure if it's possible but we'll see.

I think it's possible because of this:
Anyway, well done, it looks fantastic.

Ah! With that video jmm, you'll notice there is no internal animation to have tie the external animation to, plus the D78 has a digital illuminated display rather then a scroll. Still possible I think. As for dropping side windows and blinds, I think that's just taking it too far for little use. Although we don't have dropping side windows, you can open the cab door. How many different destinations are available for the D78?

I do believe you can set up any (District) station as the terminus on the D78 trains (Not sure about north of HSK, and wether Picc (at least down to Northfields) and/or ELL are included.)

Exactly, nothing north of HSt - or no PICC destinations. Only 'logical' routings mind; EBY-UPM EBY-HSt RMD-UPM RMD-HSt WIM-UPM WIM-HSt OLY-HSt OLY-UPM So, UPM-HSt can't be done- if you wanted too! C Stock are even more restrictive.

What are the other texts you can have up on the D stock trains? I suppose blank and Special are possible, anything else?

Thanks Guy's. Is there a "Depot" or "Not In Service"
Do you have to scroll round every station when selecting the one you need. Are they in some sort of logical order.

There are some test settings, which bring up some interesting things: tinyurl.com/dx6dhkbThere have been others too !: tinyurl.com/cbfby5pThanks Guy's. Is there a "Depot" or "Not In Service" Do you have to scroll round every station when selecting the one you need. Are they in some sort of logical order. The routes are as i've listed them. However, while out of tunnels the GPS will kick in and if you are close to a station will auto select that station as the 'start'. Beside the CIS unit is a 'Not in Service' yellow button, which blanks out the internal displays and puts up the obvious outside.

At the weekend I was sat inside an 09ts and the voice told me that the train was not in service and to activate a passenger alarm. As I'd boarded at Brixton and the platform DMI told me it was bound for Severn Sisters I ignored it. [edit] Not sure this really belongs here, see new thread.[/edit]

Thanks Dstock7080. Do you still have to wind the little handle on the display box above the M door or is it all electronically controlled now?

Do you still have to wind the little handle on the display box above the M door or is it all electronically controlled now? D Stock no longer have blinds, dot-matrix all round now. The 'blind' box remains in the cab with the handle removed, this houses the dot-matrix external display.

Is the dot-matrix display controlled by the DVA? Also, why does it seem that no Upminsters are usually going to Ealing Broadway (Only to Wimbo & Richmond)

Also, why does it seem that no Upminsters are usually going to Ealing Broadway (Only to Wimbo & Richmond) Yes, the dot-matrix is controlled by the CIS panel. On the current timetable (WTT140) off-peak Ealings only run to Tower Hill. As from Sunday these will swap, so that Ealings will run to Upminster (Barking- Suns) and the Wimbledons will go to the Tower.
