According to the so-called experts at Wikipedia (I should read less Uncyclopedia), people still had issues with it; en.wikipedia.org/wiki/London_Underground_D78_Stock#Detail - further increasing station dwell times than the single leaf door already did. But having said that - the D78 are still one of the best stocks ever built. (the R stock was better according to some - but was withdrawn before I was even born)

On MerseyRail people used to push the door open buttons despite them being disabled some while back, when the 507/508s went for their refresh the buttons disappeared. No issues now, except it's bloomin cold sometimes!

LU should use the Door Buttons in the standard mode, as already employed on the mainline trains and the DLR, saves confusion. "When the border around the buttons illuminate - press it to open the door!!"

Obviously, if there is a reliability problem with the door buttons on a particular stock, there can't be PDO on it. However, PDO has advantages when it works well. I do like the "open, wait, close but allow reopen" on S stocks, but travel mostly on the Northern Line where I have sometimes found myself on a train held at, say, Brent Cross with the doors open in very cold weather.
Passenger open, auto close even if held, would be a good system to implement - not even DLR has that, opened doors staying open until the PSA closes them.

I had to yell down the platform at Uxbridge today at an older lady who had resorted to banging on the window to try and get the doors open on a S Stock... *facepalm*
