Hello..does anybody know why the District was suspended between Embankment and Aldgate east tonight? Was it planned?
Also why was the train with Leading car 7027 out of service?

Yes, it was planned [engineering work] and it'll be out all weekend.

Work at Blackfriars

Slightly unusual service pattern this weekend with trains from/to Ealing Broadway starting/terminating at Hammersmith - don't understand how this was done looking at the track map.
I assume that trains from Ealing Broadway were terminating at Hammersmith because trains from Richmond and Wimbledon were terminating at Blackfriars Embankment, and some trains from Wimbledon were even terminating at EC. So, Blackfriars Embankment couldn't handle all 3 ex-RMD/ELY/WIM. Right?

Oh God. Don't know why I wrote Blackfriars instead of Embankment!

Ealing trains are running empty to & from Lillie Bridge depot to reverse.

This is because there is no High Street Kensington available. And as you say.

Are they doing this to familiarise drivers with going in and out of Lillie Bridge depot or has this already been done ages ago?

99% of all District line drivers were Lillie Bridge depot trained by the time stabling started there in December 2010.
As said above, the reason for using Lillie Bridge during this particular weekend is that High Street Kensington wasn't available to reverse trains, and Earls Court & Embankment were already being used to capacity.

Why not terminate them at West Kensington? After all, the link to Lillie Bridge depot is to the east of that station.

More staff at Hammersmith is my guess I'm sure this was the main reason, although no Staff seemed to be around until around 10am and then only 1 ! (which didn't help me trying to tip-out 4 drunken eastern European gentlemen at 07.30)

Obviously the decision was made by somebody only looking at papers, as a driver would you have preferred to go on to West Ken?

(which didn't help me trying to tip-out 4 drunken eastern European gentlemen at 07.30) additional station staff were not requested to tip out at Hammersmith on the EB, anyone who did turn up would have done so by local arrangement

More staff at Hammersmith is my guess partially so in that there would be more staff at hand should there be a problem, but the main reason for terminating at Hammersmith was for increased interchange options for the public it doesn't matter how many announcements you make/posters you put up at stations, a large section of the public will just follow their noses on their normal line of route better for folks to get tipped out at Hammersmith with interchange to a full Picc line service to take them forward as opposed to West Kens, with the next District train 7 and a half minutes behind, which they could pick up from Hammersmith anyway

Obviously the decision was made by somebody only looking at papers, as a driver would you have preferred to go on to West Ken? Looking at papers??? Decisions such as these tend to be made many months prior to the weekend in question (often 6+) at an advance closure planning session involving a couple of different head office departments such as access planning, timetables and also line representation would ordinarily be present to provide input

If people can't follow announcements, then that's tough for them!

If people can't follow announcements, then that's tough for them! 2 points:- i) the closure planners have access to hourly gateline figures for all stations. If West Kens were the busy hub that Earls Court or Hammersmith are then I'm sure the services would have been extended with tip outs at West Kens West Kens is not that busy hub so a small number of passengers lose out ii) You say it is their problem, but you need to take the 'knowledgeable train enthusiast head' off. People don't listen - FACT. People aren't clued up in the same way as many members of this forum are. Some people (remember summer and tourists) don't speak English so couldn't if they wanted to. 'Their Problem' could become the problem of the T/Op at West Kens late in the evening (thinking drunk/aggressive) Hammersmith has more staff at hand to help should the need arise and often a BTP presence that West Kens lacks It's about providing the best closure plan to suit the majority whilst taking into account operational and safety reasons As I touched on in a previous post, it's not about some back office pen pusher looking at the 'papers', and coming up with any old solution, whatever these papers may be !?!

I totally agree with all of what you have said. However, the bit about "people not listening" is a product of people not having to think for themselves in this day and age, because so many common sense decisions are taken for them. There were no announcements on trains a few years ago, and it seems that people coped back then. Now, with a plethora of announcements, people don't seem to cope. I appreciate that this is starting to go a bit OT now, so I'll stop!

So it is by looking at papers :-D On the Pic when shut down Hammersmith-Northfields for engineering works, trains from Heathrow run to Northfields but the rail replacement buses run from Boston Manor, the station before. You can almost guarantee every train arriving at Northfields will have a handful of passengers surprised they can continue their journey. They didn't listen to the countless announcements, read the info boards... So all be it good for the many the few of West Kensington will need to walk from Barons Court!

You can get bus Route E3 from Northfields station to Acton Town station, with the route passing within a 5 minute walk to South Ealing station, eventually going on to Turnham Green station. But then again, no one listens or thinks for themselves.

But then again, no one listens or thinks for themselves. Or you could walk to South Ealing. When Northfields was resited, it was intended to close South Ealing as well as the old Northfields (& Little Ealing) station. An additional entrance was built in Weymouth Avenue - I think the supports for the walkway between this entrance and the platforms are still there.
