Northfields & S Ealing are not quite as close as they seem because from the respective station entrances, the platforms both point towards each other. If you measured the actual station entrances as the measuring point, it would not seem to be such. IF S. Ealing platforms pointed towards Acton and Northfields patforms pointed towards Boston Manor, then the distances would seem quite normal.

The additional entrance I was told was a wartime emergency exit, and my mother just turned 80, used to use it when coming home from school in Hammersmith if there was bombing under way preventing her from getting back to Hounslow West. Mum's aunts lived in Alacross Road South Ealing and it was a short walk to their house. There is a photo on the LTM site taken from the bridge over the tracks.

So it is by looking at papers :-D On the Pic when shut down Hammersmith-Northfields for engineering works, trains from Heathrow run to Northfields but the rail replacement buses run from Boston Manor, the station before. You can almost guarantee every train arriving at Northfields will have a handful of passengers surprised they can continue their journey. They didn't listen to the countless announcements, read the info boards... So all be it good for the many the few of West Kensington will need to walk from Barons Court! Similar scenario but each case needs to be judged on it's own individual merits The Piccs reverse at Northfields so are not blocking the running line whilst being tipped out, as the case would be at West Kens Also there will be plenty of staff at hand all day at Northfields, as T/Ops are stepping back there, who could assist in the event of any problems Whoever planned this job obviously had a good look at the 'papers' !!!

More staff at Hammersmith is my guess better for folks to get tipped out at Hammersmith with interchange to a full Picc line service to take them forward as opposed to West Kens, with the next District train 7 and a half minutes behind, which they could pick up from Hammersmith anyway With this rationale in mind, when the service is suspended West Kensington-Ealing/Richmond because of planned works, why ARE the passengers tipped-out at West Ken, with no forward transport (rail-replacement) provided? A return to Earl's Court is the only way to proceed West.
