Interesting that the policy still seems to be to run most of the remaining A's on all day runners. Why not? It seems to be the usual practice in such circumstances to work the old assets until they wear out - no point in sparing them: might as well get as much use out of them as possible: it will also mean that the new assets will take longer to reach their overhaul mileage. I see that 5119 is still running - does that mean someone repaired the windows? It goes against many of the replacements of the past that's all. I'm not complaining about it, but usually the last days of any given stock are usually spent on peak hours only workings.

A stock becoming increasingly thin on the ground on the Met, today being the first day I've noticed it to such an extent. Some sets changed diagrams throughout the day, probably due to the signal failure at Uxbridge mid-day. Spent a hour or two on the line during the peak this afternoon, only saw one A on a 'fast' train, this being 5116+5203, saw it departing Harrow pfm 6 showing 'Fast Aldgate' on the rear, and on the return journey as a SF Amersham. Had a ride in both 5034 (ex 5008) which is paired with the numerically youngest 5231, heard some almost worrying bangs and creaks coming from the trailer car 6231! 5012S+5181N 416 Leaving Baker Street with an all stations Chesham at 20:20 5022N+5113N 453 midday, 424 evening peak 5034S*+5231N* came out as 466 during the eve peak, and ran a Hillingdon all stations. Returned to service as 454. 5062N+5161S* 431 ALD-UXB midday, working 465 ALD-WFD during eve peak 5094N+5103S 424 ALD-UXB midday, working 431 during eve peak 5096S+5109N 452 5116+5203 40x 405?

T412 5113N 5022S All nine of the remaining 'A' stock in service were in service this PM peak. Was nice to have a spin along the fast lines between Harrow and Wembley southbound in 6091, the train could've given the HST i came back to London in a run for it's money :-) It's great that all 9 were putting on a brilliant show yesterday. I had a fantastic spin out to Amersham and back from Baker Street on 5022/5113. Northbound I rode in 5112 in the middle of the train and southbound right up front in 5022. Both these cars have quite severe wheel flats and some of 5112's doors now really slam shut without the aid of anyone deliberately holding them open. I hope though that this is the lucky unit which ultimately gets preserved. The only thing lacking was some fast line running, as from HotH northwards we seemed to just trundle along at nothing much more than a walking pace, with the rhythmical thudding of the wheel flats keeping time!. All in all though, another memorable trip on A stock, almost certainly my last spin out to Amersham on them. Funnily enough my last trip to Amersham on A Stock on Friday 1. June was on 5096/5109, which took its leave from the Met yesterday (18/06/12). Make the most of the last few weeks of operation Folks! and above all enjoy every minute left!. Best Wishes Green Lion.

19 June 2012
Midday off peak
401 (CHM - ALD) 5119N 5024S 414 (AME - ALD) 5161N 5062S 415 (AME - ALD) 5094N 5103S 416 (AME - ALD) 5203N 5116S 427 (UXB - ALD) 5231N 5034S 430 (UXB - ALD) UNIDENTIFIED 'A' 455 (UXB/WAT -BST) 5100N 5189S (5188 very bad flats)
Therefore no 'S's away from Amersham between 413 and 411 - a goodly 2 hour gap!
Plus - 5090N 5061S was identified as T404 at 14.35ish Croxley heading NB showing CHESHAM! But was not in service! You would think after 50+ years service on the Met an 'A' would not get lost.
That's probably me done now with the 'A's. 'Twas an excellent lazy summer's day with some excellent sunbathing opportunities at Watford and Chesham! 8 sets in service, so a fair amount of variety still, and a couple of good runs to end the very long association. Last trip 5118 out of Chesham to Baker St - can't do better than that to sign off.
Best wishes to all the 'A' Stock fans. Enjoy the finale. nv

Anyone seen 5012+5181 over the last 2-3 days? I'm wondering if it has been withdrawn which will be shame given 5012 will have reached 51 years in passenger service on Tues.
Remaining A Stock noted on all day runners 404, 413, 414, 421 coming in this morning. Also formed 466 and 470.

The current plan is that 5012 will miss it by one day if it goes to Northwood on Monday, which now seems likely

I really want to try and get some more rides on A stock before game over. Tomorrow I am driving from the Eurotunnel terminal, Folkestone to Birmingham and will stop off at Uxbridge. I reckon to get there around 18h00. Could someone please pm me any information on what formations are on the Uxbridge services. Many thanks. I reckon this will be my last chance.

It is luck whether you get an A stock. Uxbridge is a reasonable chance if you wait a while. Otherwise go to Harrow.
I saw on 19/06/2012
5012+5181 5034+5231*
21/06/2012
Tonight I saw
5113*+5022 5119+5024

Good amount out today, saw at least six sets on my travels. Yep, just 5116+5203 missing this evening. Interestingly, 5012+5181 forms T431 which means its scheduled to stable in Uxbridge Sidings. Clearly, it could be changed over at some point this evening but I would have thought that if this set was off for scrap Monday, Neasden would want it tonight. Perhaps 5012 may still yet reach 51? We'll see.

Change: 5116+5189.
Could this change be connected with Wednesday's run of T717?
