Shame that 'you cannot leave any empty seats in a row' so I couldn't get the seat I wanted exactly (even though there was a row with an empty seat so I booked next to that!), with some discussion with a parent and a friend (the former agreed to pay half of it!) - I'm coming too a few rows front of the rear of the second carriage if anyone wants to book a seat near me - I don't bite! ;D Edit: Maybe not! The website seems to be having a problem with the payment service, perhaps because it *IS* 2am - so I shall try again in the morning

Defo bunking school for this . Have to go with an adult though and I don't plan on going with my mum. If there is a forum meet, can one of you pose as a parent/guardian?

Finally managed to get through on the payment website - I'm at the back of the second carriage! (I don't know if that's a good choice or not... )

The online booking thing may be faulty. When I booked mine last night I definitely clicked either of the rows on the last carriage but my comfirmation email says: Row N | Seat 13. Which is the second from last carriage so ive phoned up asking wether they can change my seat, they said no they cant but when I mentioned that it may be faulty they said they'll phone back to tell me any news on wether its possible or not.
Very good to be honest, most organisations will give you aload of rubbish and say no.

This whole booking people into individual seats seems a lot more hassle than it's worth. I'm presuming it'll be on a per-coach basis, because I don't see them labelling every single seat!
I booked my ticket as soon as they went on sale, told a friend about it, who then wanted to join me. However, by the time he rang up to book, my coach had filled up, and when I rang up to try and move us to another coach, they said that it was not possible and that tickets were 'non-transferable!' The only option is for him to swap tickets with someone else on the day.
On previous 38TS and Sarah Siddons tours, they haven't bothered with trying to allocate seats, and everything seems to have worked out fine. People just naturally spread themselves throughout the train.
Unlike the 38TS, if someone does stand for part of the trip, or a particular coach loads heavily, it's not the end of the world. After all, the trains run crush-loaded on a daily basis!

Especially as they didn't mention that it was a specific seat when I was on the phone to them to book it yesterday morning, before it became available online.
Could it be that the seats thing is actually just for the online booking system?

Seems to be a case of left hand/right-hand syndrome.
My friend phoned to book his ticket, and was then told that it was possible to cancel and re-book my original ticket. He then got them to phone me to confirm, refund the original, and book two new tickets.
All sorted now anyway, and it means there's probably now a free seat in coach A for anyone who's quick enough.
Full credit to the LTM staff though who seem to be trying their hardest within the constrains of the system.

Yeah, ive been told that its non transferrable, but seats are not actually booked. You just book yourself onto a carriage. My mates are in the last carriage so i'll see wether I can stand in the last carriage lol

As I left South Ealing today, I noticed a 67 stock train on the test track. I didn't get a chance to catch any car numbers. Probably being tested for the big day...

That will finish in Acton Works on Friday instead of Ealing Common, thence for scrap.

Taken from the tour info page on the ticketing website:
Seating To ensure everyone has a seat and that no car is overcrowded your ticket is for a specific car on the train. The cars are numbered from front (north) to back (south) 1 to 8. Please travel in your assigned car throughout the tour. The car number is on your ticket, (the seat number on the ticket is to regulate the number of people in each car) but seats are un-numbered; just sit where you wish within your car. Please remember to bring your ticket with you.

Any idea if a specific pair of units have been allocated for the trip or is it a case of whatever is available on the day?

If there is a pair allocated for it. As 3003 is the oldest in the fleet at the moment ive got a feeling that will be one of the units in it.

In the diagram on the website when I ordered rows A-B were grouped, as were rows C-D etc. Does this mean that 2 rows = 1 car, and so I am in row C so car number 2? I phoned LTM but they are closed at the moment. (As long as I know where I'm supposed to be, I'm not really that bothered on which carriage it is even though I probably should be!)

Thanks, I assumed that I would be in car 2 anyway but it's nice to know that I can choose my seat (It seems like something new's being added to that page every day! First the date, then the picture and book online link, now the seating arrangements, what next? )
