And why not! People devote huge amounts of time to just one steam loco! I think it speaks volumes for the A stock that the last 4 can devote so much interest.
I'd love to see 5189 on the last run. It's a fine unit and especially quick!

I'd just like to know when the last passenger run will be! It would also be nice to see an A stock out tomorrow as I'll be in town!

I have to admit it does seem laughable looking at the thread title that we have been talking about only 4 trains, for the last few weeks. ;D Much as we all love them I could some up the point I made earlier against a background of all the S8's being in and the farewell tour being planned 5 weeks ahead while none are running by suggesting that there is probably an small element of "For God's sake get rid of them and put us out of our misery. I remember when those last four trains of 1038 stock were running on the Northern Line spending up to an hour at Morden whenever I was in South London waiting for one to ride up to Edgware or High Barnet on, a quarter of my mind determined to wait until it came, another quarter telling me to get a life, another quarter telling me to make bloody sure I did when the were finally gone and the remaining quarter simply hoping they would go soon so I could get on with things. Look ahead three weeks and think of what this thread will be like then!

A stock spotted departing Northwick Park about 10.40 Monday. About 10 minutes later another was heading north along the fast line with Chesham on destination blind - approached too quickly to get a photo. Didn't expect to see two in service in a short space of time. Clicky for piccy<<Rincew1nd - edit: Image changed to link, as per forum rule >>

Let's hope that if 5034 is one of the units on the farewell tour, that the extra TLC which is being given to the train booked for the tour involves the repainting of its red front, which is now more white than anything else.
A few months ago when I was in London regularly, I used to wait for A Stock over S Stock wherever possible and I'm sure wasted hours in doing so, but I think it's an integral part of the hobby for some and there's absolutely no shame in it.
Take care all!

What sort of mods are needed that necessitates the S8 to go back?
Are any of these mods being done at Neasden?

Yes they are going back to Derby.
I've waited an hour at Harrow just to go one stop! The only good think about the new timetable was there are more trains on the line!

An hour wait for one stop! That's outrageous, was any explanation given?

Yes they are going back to Derby. But what are they going back for and when and why? Three at a time starting now I think. I will leave it for our technical experts to explain the post modifications.

I was told this a while back, then told they were to do it in Neasden, looks like plans have changed again or just rumours going sour.

They are still rebuilding Neasden depot, so no space for commissioning and mods.

This photo was posted by "170206" a Class 170 unit commonly associated with youtube user "toppackage" - www.flickr.com/photos/68513264@N03/7866535640/in/photostream/It claims that an A Stock was being taken away by low-loader. I just want confirmation that this hasn;t happened - because IIRC it cannot be done at Neasden due to the upgrade works.

Trains can't leave Neasden at the moment because of the upgrade work. Two trains are being stabled on the Klondye roads at various times because of Neasden depot rebuilding and the non-availablity of Wembley Park sidings. On Thursday 16/8 all four trains were in the depot, all ticking over nicely.

I did see 5189+5118 and 5103+5094 outside the depot. There was also a four car unit on the ramp right at the back of the depot. Any idea what that was?

On standby to be used to shunt stock apparently, so I was told.

Do we know which unit it is? Must be either 5022 or 5090?

As 6132 is still at Acton Works I believe, it could have been 5110. Unless 6132 was being delivered by low-loader some days ago? Which is where "170206" may have seen an A Stock on a low-loader.

What surprised me about Monday was the use of the A stock on all day runners. In the off peak, there would be 23 S stock trains not in service and I can't believe that they wouldn't be able to find 2 of them to take over the A stock workings. Once the sets had left the depot, why would control want the hassle of swapping out sets that work? If it ain't broke don't fix it!

Fair point, but they could have put the A stocks on workings that stabled at Neasden after the morning peak.
